Maybe 20 minutes from Astoria via the N train on the 31st Street el. Get the Long Island railroad train at Penn, get off at Jamaica then take the airtrain to JFK. If you want to get to JFK from Astoria, take the N,get off at Queensboro Plaza,go to the opposite side for the 7 train to Flushing, get off at 61 Street-Woodside then get the LIRR train to Jamaica then Airtrain.
>>1050794 I have an apartment near Sagres. There was a surf school there so I assume they get waves. I went there and denied myself nothing and was spending less than €50 a day. If you cooked for yourself and kept away from alcohol I see no reason why you shouldnt be able to live there on €1000 a month.
what do i do in a new city? will be going to montreal alone (i'm from Toronto), but have no clue what to do really. do i just walk around, see the sights (biodome, botanical gardens, parks), restaurants and bars?
i'm awkward and shy. is there a good way to meet new people as a tourist? i'm pretty anxious about going alone to restaurants and bars (usually things you do with friends)
i haven't traveled alone before, and when i did travel it was only family trips. what do i need to know to make the most of my time?
>>1050510 I'm planning to do the same as you anon. I've heard that it's better to stay at a youth hostel with good reviews, since they provide events/pub crawls for patrons and it's an easy way to meet/talk with other people. Walking alone and seeing the sights seems kind of lame unless you already have an interest in that location (like if your a history buff who enjoys seeing landmarks of particular events)
Next summer I want to go to Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon. Anyone been to any of these countries? How safe did you feel? I was planning on travelling by bus from Egypt to Israel but after the plane going down in the Sinai peninsuila it has made me think I am going to start in Egypt, fly to Jordan, then go overland to Israel, then back to Jordan to fly to Lebanon. I am aware the situation can change quickly. I am thinking I may as well go now because for all we know the whole region could turn into another Syria, and then I would not be able... >>1049919 Well it made me assume that there are terrorists operating at points in the Sinai peninsuila. Fliying over it only takes an hour, driving through it takes like 8. More chance of encountering said terrorists.
>>1049907 There are, unadvertised but public flights from Cairo direct to Tel Aviv, run by a subsidiary of Air Egypt. They really are secret, to the extent of not having their destination displayed on the screens at Cairo airport, thanks to Arab and Muslim stupidity, so you may have to find a good travel agent to sell you tickets, but it should be possible.

Gonna be in Japan for 2 weeks in December. Gotta question about prostitution and brothels. I'm half Taiwanese and passable as Japanese. The problem is I speak zero Japanese. You think I'd be able to get into places that dont cater to foreigners? Or will language be my main problem? Think if I found a Japanese friend he could take to to exclusive places? Also what's the best district in Tokyo to find prostitution and brothels?

No and yes. No one gives a shit if you kinda maybe look Japanese. If you're a foreigner who doesn't speak Japanese then that's what you are. Language is of course the main thing. How can they be sure you'll understand the rules and the system. Or have proper... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
What kinds of travelers do you automatically dislike?
>people who have backpacks with "countries I've visited" flags sewn onto them >hostel creeps who have no game and spend every night trying to get different women drunk >women who have been in a new country for two days and are already meeting guys off Tinder and bitching about their newly created drama >hippies who are inspired by the "spirituality" of dirt-poor... >>1051016 >>probably gonna get some shit for this, but people who sit around looking over The Lonely Planet and just plan their entire trips from guidebooks Why does this bug you? Do you ignore all the highlights of a country on some principle?
Hey everyone, so I could possibly have an opportunity to move to Surfside, Florida (in Miami). Has anyone ever been there? What's it like? Also I'm transgender so I'm curious how much of an issue that will be over there, I know Florida is sort of conservative
