Hey peeps!
I have a 4 hour layover on this airport next week. Any experiences? I have a feeling it's going to suck, but my layover is at night so I should avoid the worst traffic.
Apparently there is no universal free wifi, even though they claim on the homepage that they have one. So if someone has wifi IDs and passwords saved somewhere that would be awesome!
Also apparently it's super-expensive there, even at BK, so I'll take my own snacks with me. Just nothing to drink, because of the security BS, unless if I fill an empty one in Helsinki...

I had 2 layovers over 2 weeks on this airport, both were 9 hours each. I was a mongol and didn't carefully plan my flights, also I have an ex-gf in Istanbul and planned on her picking me up and showing me around the city, which didn't pan out. So I was stuck there for the whole 18 hours.
>expensive
yes
>no free Wi-Fi
yes
Flight 1 what I did for entertainment was people watch, tried to lie down on the benches and rest (but not sleep, because I arrived late at night and flight was...

Cool story brah! I couldn't even imagine spending 9 hours there.
They have wi-fi but you have to pay for it (with credit card). it's not very expensive - so little in fact that i suspect it might cost less to administer if it were free.
There are far worse airports in the world (or indeed in Istanbul) to spend 4 hours in. Super-expensive? Depends, some places are, but if you find the food court bit (the lower floor one, there's a more expensive one upstairs fairly nearby) there's a place that does very reasonably priced and very tasty Turkish food (and several US-style fast food franchises too, but ignore them). The...

Good fucking luck, it's usually hard to find something decent and affordable, but at this time with all the Erasmus students coming for the 2nd semester it's particularly bad.

if you're looking for something short term, try airbnb. otherwise, yeah, don't know, man
Do you think it's acceptable to go travelling while unemployed?
Or do you think I should focus on getting a job (I've been unemployed for 7 months now...) and try and take a month off work in about a year's time?
Do you have enough money to support yourself while traveling?
>>1077975
>acceptable
What the fuck does that even mean in this context? Going traveling or not is not a moral question. If you have the money to go travel (and then still have enough money to support yourself while looking for work again afterwards), then go ahead. If you have money problems, look for a job instead.
This seems like the best board to ask about languages, so I'll just shoot.
I'm supposed to learn German to B2 level, in one year, so that I can start going to university in Germany or Austria.
Unfortunately I started the "A1.1" course at this "school" since I thought "cool, I can learn the basics really well and shit", and only later have I found out that not only they split their A level courses into to, but apparently they split their B courses into 5!! (B1.1 B1.2 B1.3... and note that each of those lasts 3 fucking months)...

It's always better to be in the country your are learning the language of i'd say.
As a German i can also tell that you will be able to get by with English until you learned the language, at least in the major cities.

I have a friend from Finland here who didn't speak a word of german when she arrived. Took her about 10 months i'd say to really speak well, but i don't know if she went to some fancy language school
Is it cool ?
Looks cool.
Right now it's -1 (C) and snowing, in Lofoten.
Pretty warm for north of the Arctic Circle, when you think about it.
Yes and People surf here the summer
How much trouble would I be in if I were to cross into the Washington State from Canada with a Joint of Marijuana and got caught? I want to get high and eat Taco Bell in the US.

>get high before you cross
???
>>1077901
I want to be my optimum highness before i eat taco bell. Do you think it'll be just a fine or a slap on the wrist or something?

Hi all,
I have a booked a holiday and I just found out it was during the rainy season, this February (tragic).
Can someone tell me what are some things to do there during the wet season ?? I'm open to many things and budget is not an issue. I will be there for a week, landing in Noumea and hoping to travel around.
Thanks so much /trv/
All I know is that it is still very hot there that time despite being rain season.
Hello!, how are these cases called ?, just the case, im gonna go and fill the case with my own pieces.

Travel kit, tool kit, tool case.
I used to have one for screwdrivers but half of them were lost. I picked it up in the bargain bin in a hardware store with only half the screw drivers but I made my own kit for PC assembly and everything went nicely into the case.
thanks !
Dude go all out and get a dop kit. Those little travel cases are cute and functional but if you reach down and take a hold of your testicles I think you'll find that you already know the right decision.
I'm travelling to Portugal from the central US this summer, but I won't have a ton of time there (1-2 weeks). How do I quickly get over jetlag and enjoy my trip?
When does your flight arrive? During the day? Deprive yourself of sleep and sleep on the plane. During the night. Stay awake on flight, maybe nap. Then sleep when you check into the hotel.

Is using caffeine/tylenol PM to aid in the process a good idea?
What's the time difference? 6hours? Do you really suffer that much with a 6h difference?
where are you planning to go in here?
I'm not sure if this is the right place but thanks for your time bud.

Hi /trv/
I want to go visit the Australian Outback and/or beautiful nature in NZ with my gf.
Is it best for me to try and organize a trip myself or is there some tour that I should book?
Has anyone done this kind of trip and if so how did you go about it?
Sorry if my idea sounds kind of vague...
Appreciate any advice.
I've sort of done that kind of thing, one time doing a loop driving from Melbourne to Adelaide and back, and one time a loop driving north from Auckland, staying at motels each time. I made a point to visit national parks and similar places for dayhikes. No deep outback, though.
I suppose a tour can be good, if you find one focused on your interests, rather than just "see the highlights of Australia in ten days". I find I spend too much time waiting for the rest of the group doing shopping when I go on group tours. Something more focused, like a birdwatcher's...

Which is a better option if I have 3 - 5 days?
I'm trying to add another place or two into my trip for this summer so I'm considering the cities above.
Right now I have already selected Prague and Krakow as well.

By the way, I'm traveling with my girlfriend. We're both in our mid-twenties and boring people who like museums, old/historical stuff, and walking around.
Neither of us care about nightlife other than maybe a cool, inexpensive restaurant.
(sage to avoid a quick bump)

Hello /trv/
My asshole friend who lives in an apartment in London recently told me I couldn't stay with him while I go visit, and now I'm over here looking like a jerk with $1500 dollars saved and nowhere to go. I have another thousand but that's for the plane ticket.
Are Thailand, Vietnam or maybe Hong Kong doable with that amount? For maybe two weeks.
Hong Kong -- not really. Vietnam and Thailand you can do with 1500 usd, yes.
>>1077563
In Hong Kong that'd pretty much all go towards rent.
Thailand you could have a good time and Vietnam you'd have a nice hotel room every night.
Hello /trv/ I'm just looking for a general consensus regarding a small little town in Canada called Toronto, I plan relocation from the U.S. to there and I have some essential questions such as: are what is the general crime rate and ethnicity of the city, types of culture, job rates for upper middleclass, varying neighborhoods or really whatever useful information you can provide for me on the matter.
the only place to go besides niagara falls in ontario
canada is fucking boring m8, goto vancouver
>>1077569
Vancouver's in Canada...
>regarding a small little town in Canada called Toronto
>4th most populated city in North America
In all seriousness toronto is expensive as shit, if you want to live well as upper middle class go somewhere with <200k people
