In the eyes of the mods? Fuck if I know. Audience participation? CYOAs are typically centered around a goal, and the audience are more akin to players than just people reading. In a typical green, the audience is primarily passive, people will point out the things they liked, what they didn't like, and maybe where they'll hope it'll go. For example, uuh...alright, I'm not a regular here, but say, people wanting to see a character watch a movie with Ling, or more Skittles snuggles. Nothing too specific, people asking, but still knowing it's the writefag's story, and what'll happen will happen.
Whereas, to draw on my own experience with running a CYOA, the moment I said "I'm asking you guys wat do," out went people commenting on what they liked or didn't like, and in came people arguing "we should do this," "No, that's stupid, THIS is what we need to do." They're much more active than they would be in a normal story. The expectation is that the main character is THEIRS, they're in full control of said character, and, barring something unforeseen in the story, the character WILL do what they want, to the best of the character's capability.

The biggest issue with the chunk-by-chunk CYOAs is that they can't keep their own threads up. Curwhibbles is of the same update style. Those kind of CYOAs really need a supporting general so that they're not just constantly falling off the board.

Thaaat...was more-or-less what I had expected to happen, yea. I mean, part of why I'm hoping I can get away with it is that Punishment isn't really ABOUT breaking and abusing pone slaves. I mean, ok, that's what I had intended it to be, but that's quickly taken a back seat to the central plot of "Anon trying to lie, cheat and manipulate his way out of hell." But given the rather...grey area it falls under, rules wise, I was hoping to give it a day or two for that mod to settle down.

Not really. The only conditions seemed to be 'ponies are on Earth, ponies are slaves' - and we had one pretty good story set in Equestria too, so many I should just say 'ponies are slaves'.
Aside from that? We've had stereotypical forced slavery, refugees turned indentured servants, willing slavery from broken ponies, and everything in between.

Any general will have stories that share elements, simply because writers get ideas from reading other stories. "Oh, I can use this event as a stand-in in this way..." Making an 'official combined lore' is a fair bit rarer. The lore is whatever individual writer wants to include.

Each story keeps a few general rules but there's no canon to outright stick to (I think it's better that way). Our canon usually includes:
1. Portal from Equestria to Earth opened.
a. A batch of ponies poured through
b. Humans invaded.
2. There was a war between Humanity and Equinity, and ponies lost.
3. Ponies are now subjugated and sold as slaves, through legal and shady channels alike.
4. Ponies usually have several slave laws that keep them reliant or tied to their owners.
Deal is a Deal (applebloom) actually one of the stronger stories for canon creation, but remember, that lore is not the point so it's usually only hinted at or comes in rarely.

Well, they're both much, much slower than /mlp/. Ponychan is extremely hugboxy, posting with a trip is the norm there, as opposed to posting as Anon. They SEEM (I'm not a regular, so I could be wrong) not to have any fetish generals...but they do have generals.
/pone/, on the other hand, is much closer to us. Posting as Anon is the norm, but they seem pretty dead set against generals as a whole. They tend to bask in their smug superiority in leaving first, and are already adverse to the "flood of refugees from 4chan." That said, they made a separate board, which I can't remember the name of, for the incoming generals from /mlp/, because they saw the writing on the wall when Scruffy deleted half the fucking board last week.

We have been talking about it on rizon a lot. Ephemeral did some research and he says that traffic is too low on the alternative chans (or in the case of ponychan, too low traffic and not enough moderation since there are nonpony threads everywhere), but if we can move a ton of traffic from all the /mlp/ generals, it might work.
For now the plan is to stick to trash for a good while and see what plays out at the main board. We've talked about rebranding to avoid being called a fetish general (we're not, no matter what people say), but some anons apparently heard about names we were thinking of using and posted on /mlp/ early before janitors chilled out.
There's really no good answer yet and if things keep getting worse, we'll probably be moving to cripplechan. They've given us a polite welcome, so as long as we can all tolerate dissenters and the constant 'I told you so's we'll be fine there for a good while. They have good mods.

The whole situation pisses me off. We wern't the most active general but we were starting to pick up again and this shit may well kill us. I really wanted to see the ending of BB and Olibird's stuff has been approaching god tier.
My hope is we end up moving somewhere else (though from SP discussions it sounds like the choices arn't super fantastic), but I'm not sure if we've got enough momentum to really pull it off at this point.
