It looks like it was part of a larger whole, a helmet perhaps. It's scarred and shows signs of abuse, but little signs of wear from age.

Just take some of the powdered water-dust (about a pinch), and focus your aura into it.
Now it's got specs of red in it, with most of the dust now colourless.
You toss it into the puddle, and the bodies start to sizzle into this pink pulp.
The puddle wasn't big enough for both bodies, but as your dust began to do its thing, the bodies could be submerged in it entirely.
Now there's nothing but a greyish-pink mess.
You now toss in another pinch off dust, this one having blue specs with mostly no colour.
The gooey puddle clears up, the remains precipitating to the bottom, and seeping into the ground.
You do the same for all but the man's uniform, which you could use later.
You also found a small map in the pocket.
Well, it's almost sunrise now.
Should you wait until it gets dark again?
The rain won't subside for another two days.

I would try to start Chapter 0 of my PRSM CYOA, but I still need to do some work on the whole thing plus I've got other things taking up my time
I've at least got the basic premise down:

Morrie's got this weird spear that looks like it has Doc Ock arms at the ends. Except the ends of the arms arer flat.
The "shaft" of the spear is made of a series of wires that can either bend or straighten out.
Probably uses his semblance for that.
Tyria has those two oddly-shaped swords of hers.
They're curved, but the sharp-edged part just out of the main limb, in a sort of "S" shape.
The students are placing bets.

She recovers quickly, joining her weapons together into the ranged form and firing away.
Now Morrie has to keep strafing. His ranged attacks require preparation, so he has to close the gap to get back the advantage, or risk getting hit while he prepares.
He looks like he just launched his weapon forward like a javelin, but he kept holding on with one hand. The spear part stretched to allow this.
Now he launches himself forward, and Ty and Morrie start of a flurry of attacks.
There's a break in the mess of a fight going on, as Ty sweeps Morrie's feet with her leg.
She's about to strike, but Morrie's weapon bends such that the two "Limbs" are now covering him.
Ty's attack doesn't get through.

She hooks the libs and yanks towards herself, pulling Morrie up.
Seems she set up some sand under her feet while Morrie was defending himself, so he stumbles as he tries to regain his footing.
She got two good hits in.
And keeps on giving.
She's not letting him recover.
But he does eventually.
Now Morrie's weapon begins to jab at Ty, keeping her away.
But she used that same stream of sand to slide as she ran towards Morrie to get him by surprise.
And as she's about to attack again...
...Morrie blocks her with one of his knives!
His spear consricts around her and he tosses her away. She had to use a platform made of sand to keep herself from falling out of the edges of the ring.
Now Morrie's weapon has the knives embedded in it, and he begins yet another flurry of attacks.
This time, Ty loses the exhange, and has to reatreat.
Which gives her opponent the chance to fire away one of those knives with a distvial in the handle.
She's stuck because of the ice that's formed around her legs.
And Morrie finishes it by smashing his weapon over her.
