After Steven helped her fulfill her physiological needs by freeing her and repairing her gem, Lapis is at the point where the fulfillment of her safety needs is her number one priority. It in no way excuses what she's done, but it does give context to her actions instead of just assuming she's a huge fuckup.

Honestly at this point I don’t even know why Pewey shippers even ship pewey. Like, ignoring for a second the blatant lesbian erasure and lesbophobia, Pearl does not like Dewey at all, and is clearly uncomfortable around him. To start off, when they first met in Political Power, and Dewey asked where Steven’s “hot sister” was. This on it’s own goes to show a lot, showing that Pewey is really only attracted to Pearl’s looks, not having even met her, and developing a crush. It’s also just gross being that Steven is maybe around 10 so assuming she was actually his sister, that would put Pearl at 16-25, making a whole new set f problems with Mayor Dewey’s crush and assumption of familial status.
