Eh, sorry anon, but that's honestly pretty bad. The dark parts don't blend in at all, they're just overlayed. Especially noticeable on the outlines, where it just kind of runs halfway at times. And they look too round, too dark, and too sharp. The edges should be blurred off a bit more. And the shadows shouldn't all be one color like you have, it should be a darker version of the color underneath.
As far as light source, that part seems okay for the most part. You kind of have the right idea with that

A lot of confusion about shadows emerges because people say "you need to shade like [this]" and then don't give any context. I can tell you're shading in blue tones because at some point you read or were told "you need to shade in blues". But that's not exactly accurate.
Blue shading is right for certain kinds of lighting and usually accompanies soft shadows like the other anon describes. But the sharp shadows and highly directional lighting you are using is evocative of a spotlight. Spotlights should be shaded in tones of black.
Blue tones are usually used in natural lighting and soften a shadow - especially if the scene is set in morning or night, or set under fluorescent lights. Black tones should be used at extreme times of day (noon, midnight, sunset, dawn) and under incandescent lighting. Use black when you want a sharp contrast or to convey heat or tension. Blue tones for soft contrast or peacefulness.

It's not that bad in terms of color and shape, there's a lot of room for interpretation as stylization. But yeah, the outlines ruin it, as outlines ruin most things. In this style, the outlines are supposed to remain a constant color. In the flat shaded image, in Photoshop select the main color and set it as anti-aliased mask in order to not draw over the outlines.

Funny you should ask this. Another popular artist asked me privately the exact same question in one of the (now-defunct) IRC channels. The artist in question felt like they were losing their inspiration to draw, and they kept receiving criticism from their audience about stagnating art and boring pictures after years of doing the same. The artist draws lots of simple cartoon-like pictures without much complexity. My advice was as follows:
- Stop doing only cartoons. Try out new things. Try playing around with the staples of any good illustrator: anatomy, perspective, colors.
- Stop rushing out pictures. Stop being afraid of spending time with your pieces. It is not a bad thing to put effort into something.
- Don't see your characters as objects. Don't force yourself to put humor or sex into every scenario. Love your characters and love your world. They're yours, and you should be showing what they are capable of.
- Don't focus so much on your audience. You have to find yourself first before you can let others cheer you on.
After that, the artist in question pretty much left dismissively and never returned. I wonder why they asked the question if they weren't interested in the answer. Anyway, the artist still draws the same pictures today (albeit more slowly and there are technical "improvements"), you have all seen them.
Overall, I would give the same advice to any artist feeling bad about themselves. The most important thing is to develop an appreciation for what you do. Test your limits and improve. Love yourself. Never make the mistake of following memes and audiences around. Inspiration is the key, and I wish for every artist to find as much of it as possible.

Not the same anon that stated this, but he is exactly on point with this term when he refers to artists like Kuri and CH. And he is especially on point with his detrimental to the community comment.
I'm no artist myself, but I talk with quite a few and they all can tell you that the poses and technique used by those two are surprisingly basic. They also are all quick to point out that artists like these have all been reusing generic poses and have been drawing largely the same image with minor changes to the characters for 3+ years.
It's always infuriating to see artists that actually challenge themselves and put a great deal of care in their images get overlooked by the artists that quickly churn out images that have largely been done before and exploit their overly enthusiastic and uncritical fanbase.
There are also many more reasons why people detest some of these more popular artists. A lot of the defenders of these artists tend to disregard everything that is negative just because these people online rightfully have no regards for people's feelings and being politically correct.
