(Some of these require some context to explain at what point they start getting good. This could be considered a spoiler though, so don't read my descriptions if you're scared of that.)

http://lackadaisycats.com/
Set during the 1920s prohibition era, gangsters fighting each other to acquire and sell alcohol to snobby rich folk. With everyone as cats, because why not. Lots of gun fights and fun stuff like that. The story is decent, but the art style really pushes it above and beyond the rest. Probably the best furry webcomic currently out there.

http://www.poppy-opossum.com/
Generic fantasy world where everyone is an animal. It has a fun twist where a lot of the magic acts like modern technology. The protagonist is an inexplicably strong possum who fights monsters of the week. A bit like Goku in Dragonball.

http://missmab.com/
Started off as a very silly generic fantasy adventure based on a web-browser furry game, but it's since evolved into something more serious. The focus recently is on a brewing war between Cubi (a catch-all term for succubus and incubus) and Dragons. A bunch of the characters are hanging out at a school for Cubi that's sort of like Hogwarts, but for furries.
>>
http://www.housepetscomic.com/
Similar to miss-mab in that it started off very silly, but got more interesting later on. One of the characters is like a stereotypical "new age spiritial" girl with a crystal ball, but it's gradually revealed that all of the mumbo jumbo magic she's dealing with is real, and all of the other characters get dragged along for the ride.

http://zoophobiacomic.com/
This one started strong, but it's been getting more meh as time goes on. It started off with a teacher getting transfered to a new school, only to later realize that it's a school for non-humans. There were monsters and amazing creatures and lots of good stuff, but now she's settled on very... slice-of-life material. Teenagers being angsty about relationship stuff. Still, it has potential.

http://paigf.thecomicseries.com/
I wouldn't really call this one great... but it features a girl transforming into a hot fox-woman superhero-type-persona. And that just hits all of my buttons, so I feel like plugging it. Non-furries will probably find it boring.

Endtown for drama and horror, plus it updates 3 times a week which is pretty fucking rad. Basically it's the apocalypse, nearly everything is a flat wasteland of dust, and there's a mutagen everywhere that mutates people into blobs of flesh and teeth. If asleep, you get off lucky and turn into a furry, but shit still sucks hard. Plus there's humans in sealed off suits hunting them all down as a last ditch effort to kill the mutagen, target the rats to kill the plague and all. But the comic doesn't pick up till you hit Sparkplug, so best hold on through the experimental shit before it hits the good stuff.

Lackadaisy, haven't checked it myself, but I've seen everyone recommend it, even people who hate furshit.

I guess Beatriz Overseer, but good luck ever seeing that comic update. Frog woman is trying to solve a dragon problem, can't say that much else because there isn't that much to read. Art is nice though.

Tale of Jasper Gold looks promising, but there's not much to be seen yet. Not updating currently, artist is taking a break right now. Cowboy rabbit hunting outlaws and guy who did something to his daughter, probably killed her, can't remember. Art is also nice, but isn't updating currently.

Thankfully that's the lowest point of the comic and hasn't been anywhere near as bad since he left. Unity was really cool, but I do wish the flashback could end so progression can be made.

Well I dunno, I kind of like Poppy Opossum, myself. It's got an interesting enough world and it doesn't take itself too seriously, and the art is pretty decent.

In the beginning nothing happens, it's just them hanging out around the inn and sort of going on adventures, but not really? With Abel's storyline she was able to establish more interesting stuff, then later on she merged Abel's and Dan's stories into the main comic.

Now there's an army of ant-monsters being bred to fight back against the dragons and the world is on the verge of being introduced to technomagic firearms.
>>

Not a furry comic, but Shlock Mercenary did something clever to remedy this. He created a new first chapter that people are directed to when they click "beginning". The actual beginning was so badly drawn compared to his current skill level that new readers would almost certainly be scared off if they were directed there. So his first chapter is actually the third chapter.

People can find the actual start if they do a little digging, but it's not pretty.
>>
Sabrina Online is decent.

I can't really recommend zoophobia since she decided to only update for patreon followers from now on.

Apparently the webcomic will not be available to anyone else until she completes each subsequent chapter and you will have to purshase the pdf's.

According to her tumblr anyway, shame since I really did like the comic.

I love how everyone thinks she just cheated on Trace and that he's the biggest fool on the planet for falling for it. They'll be in for a shock when she actually gives birth to little Keidran-Human hybrids. Unless Tom take the Disney approach and have half the babies be full human, have half of them be full Keidran.
>>
Endtown has already been mentioned.

Skin Deep is pretty cool, but not completely furry because it's about mythical creatures (most of which end up being furry).
The author is a total Tumblr SJW dyke, but she somehow manages to not put any of it in her comic. The art might remind you of those pro-trans comics, but t's really good.

>>3792830
I don't know how did she manage to go from early dA bad art, to decent style, to generic and inane.
I really enjoyed the comic before the updates got really slow and her art atrophied.

I've always wondered with that one, he draws so much art of his characters as dick-girls on the side... are they canon? Like, in the comic, do all of the girls have dicks? Or is it just fan-service that's unrelated to the comic's story?
>>
>>3801548
In the comic, they are female, non-dickgirls. I mean, how the hell would you hide Mugger's equipment the way she dresses?

The dickgirls are just fan-service. Although some of his smut comics are somewhat more "canon" than the others. The recent one he's working on could be considered canon. Otherwise the non-smut comic is self-contained for the most part.

Are there any furry webcomics with adult content? I want some tits and sex.

Only ones I can think of are druids (wow webcomic), Kit'n'Kay Boodle, and Tale of Tails.

The first is OK but kinda dumb story-wise. The second is just awful through and through, and the third is good but I'm not a huge fan of the artstyle.

I know there's Evon but that hasn't got anything really juicy. Peter is the Wolf is fun when it updates, which seems to be monthly. There's a lot that are highly suggestive but stop shy of showing actual genitals.

I caught a hardcopy of Gunnerkrigg Court the other day, and was encouraged by how bad the art is in the beginning. I know how much it improves as it progresses. Lackadaisy has good art, and good research/historical accuracy, but that's it. I want to like it, but with its terrible pacing and unlikable characters, I gave up on it long ago.

Lackadaisy could be a good comic if Butler had an editor to limit her to only the stuff that actually has a point. And to limit her to one, maybe two viewpoint characters.

Comfy story about an outsider who went to a weird village

>Lackadaisy
1920 Gangster cats. 10/10 art. Author isn't furry, she just likes cats. Was unaware of furries when she started. Still creeped out by them, but amazing artist.

>Blacksad
Noir. You won't be happier having read this, but it's good

Entertaining. So are the /co/ threads on it. Super strong, magic-proof opossum in a world of magic

>from the FAQ
Q. Why cats?
A. When dealing in sociopathic criminalism and gratuitous violence, how could it not be cats? Don't take it too literally, though. It's mostly just a device I like to use for characterization. The mobile ears, tails, and big eyes help me emphasize gesture and expression more than I could with human characters, they allow me to be as ridiculous as I like, and, well, they're just plain fun to draw.

Q. Are you a furry?
A. Uh. I'm not entirely sure what that means. I draw furries (if you can't think of a less schmaltzy name for them), but I'm actually a not-very-furry upright primate. I suspect you are too, unless you're a cat walking on the keyboard. Get off the keyboard!

Artist (Tracy Butler) is extremely talented. It seems like she uses cats like early WB used rabbits, pigs and birds, for more expression.
Anyways, she's perfectly capable of drawing humans, and if you look through the gallery, she can draw them in motion, not just poses.

Tracy Butler has distanced herself from the furry label for understandable reasons, but her drawing style back in the day was absolutely "VCL style". You can still see her old stuff on Yerf.

On the other hand, if your definition of furry is "cringy or fetishist" then I don't have anything for you, but I also don't think that makes for a very useful definition of furry.

Here are some more words from her on the subject: http://lackadaisycats.tumblr.com/post/3971329208/how-do-you-feel-about-your-comic-being-associated

Aaron Neathery is not particularly involved (or well known) in the fandom, although he does have an FA and he's been to a few cons. And he likes drawing sexy animal ladies.

She's so not a furry. That's why she's the guest of honor at this year's Anthrocon. That FAQ has been outdated for awhile now, she's had an FA for years, and she's no longer worried about "furry" keeping her from getting a good job.
>>
>>3813958
I didn't mean to make them seem like inherent traits of furry art. Just to denote that she simply likes drawing anthropomorphic animals without being too much into the fandom.

It's really disappointing, because it does look great. And like I said, the attention to detail is amazing. When she draws a train station, it's actually a real train station. She put a radio in the comic because she thought it was pretty, but added a note saying that it was an anachronism, because it would only come onto the market five years after. Thanks to Lackadaisy, I learned that there were these weird, Dutch-themed milk bars during the prohibition.

It's just.... get to the point, lady!

>>3812625
>Lackadaisy and Blacksad have amazing art precisely because the authors are not furry.

I was unaware fur fetishism affected the artistic part of the brain, the bones in the hand, or any other part of the body that could have this effect.

>>3813958
To me, that reads more like her disavowing the assholes who are incredibly loud about hating furries. I've known people like that. They're definitely annoying. One was just spouting internet memes, but the other was the kind of person who lifts himself up by constantly elevating himself as compared to others. Not the sort of person you want to have to deal with.

Pobre Pucho / Foxy Flavored Cookie

A man is turned into a lycan, gets amnesia and is integrated into a secret society of lycans that lives underground.

It's one of those that starts silly then gets progressively more serious though it's doing better than others in this regard so far.

The artwork went from worse than mediocre to a bit better than average. The artist basically started this when he started drawing and he's just starting to get comfortable drawing humans.

The comic being made by a furry, a member of of a subculture defined and created by sexualizing everything, doesn't even imply the author is slipping in non stop sex jokes and fanservice for his fellow furries to yack and jack to. Right.
>>
>>3855973
there are a million reasons to hate furries and these are the dumbest of them all

>b-b-but normies will have the first impression that...
>cute and cuddly animals guys
We're not normies. We can see that they're furfag characters, and we can look at them without seeing them as cute and cuddly cartoons.

Furries make trash comics because their fetish is literally the result of having autism. Most furries have autism, period. Autism comes with narrowed interests, which negatively influence creativity due to the low number of sources the autist can draw inspiration from. Furry webcomics are predictable because of this. The furry webcomic artist will draw from their favorite anime, a fantasy book series they read, and a persistent obsession of theirs like gender transformation, a specific animal species, or a subject matter like robots or wizards or some shit. The normal artist draws from hundreds of sources and intricate social experiences the autist can not have by definition. This makes their writing richer and more full of life, something you might even call "mature". It's not like an 8 year old's fanfic that relies on lore for complexity, it's an emotionally complex fantasy construct that engages the human spirit as a story. The autist's writing? Engages the human spirit about as much as a technical manual.

Not really sure how to feel about Missmab. Last time I checked in a few years back, it would seem to jerk from comedy to drama and vice versa about halfway through the same page. Not to mention it keeps trying to paint the succubi as sympathetic without really bringing anything substantial forward
>"It's time for your cubi training!"
>"Wait, aren't you just going to teach me to do all the morally questionable shit I've been established to aligned be against?"
>"...Yes?"
And it never really got past that
>>
>>3882492
The reason it mixes the two is because she's recently merged two storylines.

It started off telling Dan's story, which was all very silly. This was before she had learned how to draw properly. When she actually took an art class and improved, she started a side-arc that told Abel's story. It was about him losing his parents and most of his friends, and other hardships. It was the same style but much more dramatic. Then when she finished establishing all of that backstory, she tied it into the main story. So now you have the old casual humor, with moments of drama and tension mixed in.

It's a bit like when Rooster Teeth did that Washington chapter in Red vs Blue (where he gets shot in the back and left to die), and then had Washington join the rest of the crew. It can be an unusual mix... but sometimes it works.
>>
>>3882196
Screengrab reference, or it didn't happen.
>>
>>3878710
That's a bit of a binary attitude.

Let's face it: Most webcomics are crap. Trust me on this, I've read a lot of them. Specifically the crap ones.

>The normal artist draws from hundreds of sources and intricate social experiences the autist can not have by definition.

I mean, this is just wrong. That is the exceptional artist, and they have more traits you could identify with autism than not. Such as insisting on historical accuracy, like is the norm in Franco-Belgian comics.

If most webcomics are crap, most furry webcomics are crap. Simple fact of life. The difference is that there are far less furry webcomics than there are "normal" webcomics. So of normal webcomics, you won't be hard-pressed to name a few good ones. Very likely the same good ones the rest of the internet keeps recommending to each other ad nauseum. But that's just a simple availability bias. You can name more good "normal" webcomics than you can name good furry webcomics, so you assume that's because there are more good normal comics. Probably you can also name more bad furry webcomics, because you specifically sought them out because of the same personal interest that brings you to /trash/.

In short, you're being kind of autistic with blaming this on autism. I'd be willing to bet there IS a significant number of autists in the furry community as compared to the rest of the world, but to take the leap and blame a perceived lack of quality in furry webcomics on that is grasping for straws. And honestly, the insistence that "normal" authors are magically able to build good characters, dialogues etc. due to them not having autism betrays that you can't have read all that many crappy "normal" comics. Christ, just the other day there was this Canadian propaganda comic being storytimed on /co/ that was just brimming with shitty writing, and someone even got paid for it.

I think the most defining trait of "a furry" is an avatar used for roleplaying purposes within "the fandom".

Being into animal people alone is an art preference and possibly a xenophilic fetish, being "furry" is a lifestyle choice.
That's just my opinion and I'm aware it isn't failsafe as it leaves room for denial, damage control and all sorts of drama. I just think it isn't fair to throw all anthro fans in the same camp with a subculture that's most infamous for being a fringe fetish for homosexual men, especially when the artists in question never engaged with that sorts of people.

And I honestly doubt people like Tracy or Aaron bother too much with people roleplaying as cartoon dogs, they've got better things to do.

I like poppy but that whole thing was just debunking that normal webcomics are just as susceptible to shittiness as furry webcomics.
>>
>>3864016
Following this logic, half of popular media would count as fetish fuel since anything could be a fetish and you'd never know how many creators were jacking off to their work in the process of making it.

Poppy is drawn innocently enough to pass as a children's book, people jerking off to it (even Morbi himself) isn't gonna change a thing about it.

I've been planning a webcomic for some time, space opera, big dumb epic, stealing from Dune and RotTK, etc...

But the only things I've drawn these days are furporn for cash.
Should I just fill the stories with anthros instead of humans as intended to get a wider loyal support from the get go, is the furry community more dependable when it comes to Patreon support then the wider population? (No paywalls, btw)

In the story, there are bio-engineered artifical humans used as slaves and putting in anthros as uplifted animals in their places fits perfectly in. Or they could be all talking animals.

I've tried to ask this before in /co/ webcomic thread, but got too much flack for mentioning fur.

The most important thing is to have a story or a good sense of humour. If you don't have either it's gonna be shit in the end.

There's people in the fandom who don't have fursonas, or don't use them for RP.

I agree that it's not fair to conflate liking animal people with the subculture, but neither is it fair to conflate the subculture with the fetish. Furry is a lot of things to a lot of different people, and while most of us do think animal people are sexy, I honestly don't think that's what defines people's relationship with the fandom for most of those who engage with it on an active level.

At the end of the day, I think the two most useful definitions are "likes animal people" and "considers themselves a furry." Tracy and Aaron don't fit that second definition, but I'd be surprised if they didn't have friends who do. I mean, it's not like furries solely interact with each other through murrs and owos. Not all of them, anyway.

>>3891369
Maybe, but that sounds like a decision with more than just superficial aesthetic consequences for your story. Furries do spend more money, and if optimizing your comic's furrydollar extraction potential is that important to you then you may as well go ahead and do it, but this really feels like something you should have decided during the process of planning your story. And if this is your first comic I feel like you should be concentrating your effort on making it as good as you can, however furry it is or not.

Who are the masters of the slaves? Giant super computers?
>>
>>3892319
fuck me, I lost a wall of text I spent 20 minutes typing...

Ok, It's hard SF space opera taking place in one huge multi-stellar system with hundreds of terraformed worlds and space colonies, no FTL, no aliens, no starfighters the fly like airplanes etc.

There are a dozen or so houses/republics/kingdoms contending for hegemony after collapse of the empire, and a post-singularity AI that acts as neutral arbiters and seemingly allows humans to kill each other with little interest.

To avoid costly destructive large scale wars of the past, they conduct ceremonial duel between champions in giant mecha to settle disputes. They group their fleets at a chosen location and let the robots duke it out and afterwards they can accept the victory/defeat or contest the fight and start a real war then and there.

Basically, Five Star Stories mashed with Dune/Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and trying to make it as plausible as possible
http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/

In FSS, each pilot controls the mechs with artificial waifu called Fatimas, I'd just be replacing them with anthros
>>
So the elites have uplifted anthros as slaves and stewards.
The MC's father ran away with his slave and created illegal hybrid children, 13. 14 years actual war breaks out and the MC's gramps and the head of his House claims the MC as the next piolt, family gets killed, MC's sister escapes, plot plot plot happens.

The anthro slaves are considered a cultural quirk by some and an abomination that should be exterminated by others, there are space pirates, robots, etc, you know all the regular fun stuff.

I actually drew some wevcomics way back when on keenspot around ~2002 when I was a kid, I've been planning this story for some time now and see it as a proper graphic novel, not just gag a day fluff.
Paying rent, making a living is a high priority these days and appealing to a niche demogratic as a support base seems a good idea from the get go...

I started to read the arcives of that one about a year or two ago, and kinda forgot about it... i have to ask: is it a cocktease comic, or do they fug at some point?

if so, how graphic?

And do you think the story justified the smexytime?

Anthros, as a visually-appealing hybrid between something human and something alien yet familiar, work well as an artificially created race of servants, and they've been used that way a lot in fiction, including an ongoing print comic (Mirror by Emma Rios and Hwei Lim). The part about them being necessary to pilot the mechs might need some justification, though. Was the motivation for their creation separate from their use in the mechs? If not - if they were specifically created for use as weapons - why bother making them pretty animal people instead of just purely functional mutants? In either case, is there something about their animal nature that makes them, but not regular humans, suitable for the task?

>In the story, there are bio-engineered artifical humans used as slaves and putting in anthros as uplifted animals in their places fits perfectly in.
So...Children of Steel? Cause that's kinda how that universe works.
>>
>>3894674
For the co-pilot part they act as part of the nervous system of the machine, like a walking mobile terminal/human interface. She is the mech in the lieral sence.

As for why, the robots aren't strictly weapons of war but of also ceremony and ritual, so the pilot/co-pilot/mech can be part of a spiritual tradition like the holy trinity perhaps.
There is no practical reason for having giant robots at all, so I'm trying to make them culturally relevant, not military.

As for the why the animals, I figured there would be totemic reasons, based on spirituality the those cultures that venerated and or identified with particular animals like many tribal cultures.
They are a high tech culture so its not like dog headed dudes picking cotton in the field, figured they would be owned by only the elites and looked upon with awe/fear/disdain by normal folk.

And/or some cultures made to be be disposable non humans that can still do human tasks but were eventually banned in many areas for moral/ethical reasons. I also think a universal taboo on life like androids fits in there somewhere.
None of these developments are new but occurred thousands of years ago so there are many hidden pockets remnants from different periods in the fringes.

I am interested in having a cohesive story and not just plopping the furry aspect superficially.

Main reason I brought up CoS was that it has anthros as genetically engineered indentured servants, kinda similar to what you are thinking.

That and I'm currently writing a porn story based off that universe.

And I should probably mention since the organization sucks, the Children of Steel stuff is under Interspecies and Semi-Fur.

Eh, mostly deadish, but they would upload new releases from Kyell Gold and the like as they arrived. Since they had a focus on furry fiction, I was planning on uploading that porn story I'm writing there, but now u18 appears to be dead, I'm thinking about SoFurry.

You don't get it, that pic was just a commission, it has nothing to do with the comic.

Did we manage to determine if there are any good furry webcomics?
>>
>>3890688
Nice dubs, Hitler.

Anyway, I think the big flaw in the furry reasoning is the assumption that people have control over which label they get stuck with. But by and large, you don't. I have an above average interest in (animal) anthropomorphism, and express that almost solely through consumption of media. This is enough for everyone to consider me a "furry". So I am. The label is convenient enough. Through it I can find the things that interest me, and through it I can express to likeminded people what my interests are without having to build up rapport beforehand. Ultimately, that's the function of labels.

As time goes back I've noticed that what I loved about Butler's old art for Ironclaw and her own fantasy comic Lackadaisy lacks. I think it was enthusiasm and passion. While initial pages of Lackadaisy showed promise, now every page is refined to the point of of being gallery worthy. But at the same under all that polish the original form gets mangled. The plot went nowhere and if someone would ask me "What's happening right now in LDC?" I'd go "I don't know". It feels a lot like something Tracy wants to let go and move on but makes too much cash to ignore. What started as a little jump into "Hey a prohibition era story" failed to be turned into a solid formula. Now it's a pashionless but well executed art comic.
>>
bomp
>>
>>3901709
That's pretty reasonable.

>>3901751
I guess it's possible that she's tired of it, but just from looking at the comic I feel like what Lackadaisy is now is what she always wanted it to be - and maybe what that is is a place for her perfectionism to run wild, resulting in its painfully slow updates, which has always been the comic's main problem. I'd be way more willing to get (re)invested in Lackadaisy's story if it updated with any regularity.
