/tup/ - Tulpa General

>What are tulpas?
A tulpa is an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to your own consciousness. They are able to think, and have their own free will, emotions, and memories. In short, a tulpa is like a sentient person living in your head, separate from you.

I started trying again for the first time in a couple of years about and a week and a half ago. I spend around 20-30 minutes actively forcing everyday.

I also think about my tulpa throughout the day and talk with her about various things.

Over the the past few days I've had some head pressure and I usually don't get headaches very often.

Is this normal?

yes, 99% of tulpa makers get head pressure.
>>

My armchair guess would be because parts of the brain that don't normally require that much oxygen need more and so the blood vessels have to expand. I mean you're basically having two minds in one, of course it's gonna need more energy.

>decide if you want a tulpa
>double check your decision
>think of a form for it, you may not chose one if you want to
>choose if you want to begin with visualization and personality

Visualization is the tup's form and looks and how well can your brain see it's details
Personality is an optional step that attempts to direct the tup's personality to a set list of traits.
If you don't want to define a personality, skip to form visualization

If you picked up a form:
>imagine form
>if you can draw, draw it somewhere
>meditate and build the form in your mind, from naked to clothing if you feel like it
>start with few details and form the overall looks
>do a little pause for personality if you feel like it
>give definition to body: muscles, clothing, hair(skin hair, not just head) etc
>hard mode for 3D tups: detail the face
>finish personality, tup may or may not be sentient
>narration

>if you didn't pick up a form
>get a placeholder form
>keep in mind and suggest the not-yet-tulpa that it may change in the future
>begin personality if you feel like it
>narrate once you're done

Personality imposing back in my day meand making a list of traits and proceeding for like half an hour telling the soon to be tup about what this trait is about in 3rd person, giving examples on how it'd affect it and why.

Narration is talking to the tup about whatever. Stories, life, meanings, you name it, to give it sentience/improve it's speech etc.

For further details please read a fucking good guide

I'm confused about what is and isn't a tulpa.

There are apparently those things called "servitors" that aren't really a sentient tulpa. From what I can gather you have to explicitly think of what they're supposed to do for them to do anything, like a doll. This makes sense.

But how do you know if it's a tulpa or just a normal thought? What I mean is, let's say you close your eyes and imagine being in Hitler's bunker and then you imagine your mother being with you, reacting to the bunker, Nazi flags, and Hitler's dead body.

At least for me I don't actively have to think how she would react. It comes naturally and isn't at all what I would describe as a doll, so then I presume it's not a servitor right? But I doubt this is a tulpa either.

And the problem is that my (future?) tulpa's form is no more convincing than my other normal thoughts. Should I actively try to suppress thinking what she would do?

Just let them be, and they'll move and respond on they're own when they want to.

How much puppeteering is okay? I mean if I'm gonna have her follow me around while I'm narrating then I need her to move.
>>
>>3632501
Imposition isn't necessary for narration.

Actually, you'd usually want to wait on imposition until they're active.

William Waller Atkinson's book are pretty useful for tup making. I've listened throught two of them, and they contain very useful exercises regarding visualization, memorization, and other mental training. They're longer than aany guide, and arem't directly about tups, but they also have far more meat to them.

It's like when you know a response without thinking about it, like i say 2+2, you dont have to sit there and count on your fingers you just automatically know its 4. In the same way, once you got personality down its kinda hard not to just go
>ah well the obvious response to this is (X)
Do this a few times and you stop thinking about the first part and only the response comes to mind, in which case it becomes harder to distinguish if it's your thoughts or if they're trying to talk to you.
>>
>>3639380

I didn't have this problem to an extreme, mainly early on when Ibwas actually doing a lot of personality forcing.

When I stopped, and started doing more observation and question asking than forcing, responses became more dynamic, and feels more like it is their own. This isn't perfect mind, I still get the occasional sense that my expectations produced a response more than my tup did, but it did help me get further past parroting concerns.

Aside from simple things like having my tup recite the alphabet, I didn't parrot her at all. This meant that I did go through a state where she was like a lifeless doll, but I didn't think that was a bad thing.

I do know some folks who did start with parroting, but the key to their technique is thay, after a short amount of time, they stopped altogether. They used the parroting to make a foundation for the tulpa to work with. I was never a fan of the parrot until you can't tell you're parroting method.
>>
I have given the idea a good amount of thought, and I am almost fully convinced that I want to make a tulpa, but I have a few questions.
Basically I want to make a tulpa to help me deal with my self imposed loneliness and the fact that I feel like I can't form a meaningful relationship with someone that doesn't fully understand me. I already talk to myself a lot so creating a companion that is essentially a part of me and that understands me better than anyone else feels like a logical thing to do. Point is, will she be alright with knowing this? I really wouldn't want to hide this fact from her, and I want her to have her own free will. Will she accept the fact that I basically want her to be my companion for life?
Also, I plan on passive forcing her while I'm studying, playing videogames or drawing (which are basically 90% of my day), will she take an interest in these things?
Finally, I am bilingual, will she just know both the languages I speak right off the bat?
>>
>>3640115
>Will she accept the fact that I basically want her to be my companion for life?
She doesn't have a choice, it's not like she can be someone else's companion for life. That said, that's probably the most pessimistic way to look at it, there's almost no one who's tulpa doesn't enjoy spending time with them.

>Also, I plan on passive forcing her while I'm studying, playing videogames or drawing (which are basically 90% of my day), will she take an interest in these things?
She'll probably have her own interests eventually, but I try and keep mine around for any insights on what I'm doing be it work or play. She'll probably try and get into the things you're doing but you never know.

>will she just know both the languages I speak right off the bat?
I'm pretty competent in two languages, but I only use one on a day to day basis, and I've only ever talked to and thought about my tulpa in that language. My tulpa is pretty terrible at the other language I speak, but I reckon if you talk to her in both then she'll be able to think in and talk in both.

>She'll probably have her own interests eventually
How would she even develop them? I find this kind of fascinating actually. Like, let's say I'm watching a movie, will she see that and be like "yeah, movies are fun, I want to watch more movies"?
>I reckon if you talk to her in both then she'll be able to think in and talk in both.
I guess I'll do that, there are some concepts that I find easier to express in english but I'm obiviously more comfortable with my native tongue, so I'll just use whichever language is more convenient for the occasion.
Thanks for the answers.
>>
>>3640359
>How would she even develop them?
My tulpa likes drawing even though I don't. I did it with her since she kept asking because it was recommended to help development, and she really liked it. I still don't since I think I can't draw for shit but she doesn't mind, she just likes the opportunity to be creative. Problem is she can't possess me yet, so I need to basically just draw what she tells me and how.

Hello.
What am I supposed to be listening for?
Every guide says talk and narrate to any form and it'll respond.
>>
>>3651717
Sometimes it isn't a vocal response, sometimes it's an emotional response, an odd feeling of "not you", a unique head pressure that you can't seem to replicate, things like that. Generally just focus on picking up anything that feels alien and "not you". Learn what talking to yourself feels like, and if you get a response that doesn't match that it's probably your tulpa.

Having sex with your tulpa isn't bad, in fact in some cases I'd say it's very healthy and a part of natural tulpa progression depending on what you consider your tulpa to be. It's only bad if that is all you guys do. The people who say "don't sex the tupper" either mean don't make a tulpa just for sex or they are trying to project their personal opinion on to you.

Tell your tulpa to chill the fuck out about wanting sex all the time and do other stuff with them.
>>
>>3656849
My tulpa is still in the early stages of development but when I force she really seems to really like hugging and cuddling with me.

I haven't done anything too lewd with her yet though I suspect it may happen eventually.

I kind of want to wait until she's vocal before doing anything like that though. But anything can happen I guess.
>>
>>3657842
Vocal doesn't mean literally "vocal", just reliably responsive. If your tulpa "seems to like" something you are presumably getting feedback.
>>
>>3658450
Well here's the thing.

How do I know it's not me doing it?

When I say early stages of development I mean really early.

I tried for about month 2 years ago then stopped completely. Recently started again less than 2 weeks ago.

Could I be getting feedback that early? Is there a way to tell if I'm pulling the strings or not?
>>
>>3659140
>Is there a way to tell if I'm pulling the strings or not?
This doubt never goes away, regardless of the means of communication. The human brain is also great at rationalizing, the more you scrutinize an alien thought the more you convince yourself of how you might have come up with it yourself. First impression is usually the best indicator, if something happens and your immediate reaction is "that didn't seem right" either a) you are suffering an intrusive thought, b) your brain is currently firing randomly due to tiredness or substances or c) it is your tulpa. The first two can be ruled out if there is a distinct pattern, if the same thing happens every time and you aren't immediately certain it was you, it probably wasn't
>>
>>3659274
I guess the best thing to do is trust in my tulpa.

I've also been getting head pressure which I'm almost certain is my tulpa since I usually go months without headaches and the past week I've had head pressure everyday.

Don't forget that pony tups are like little fluffy angels.
Just without halos, but sometimes with wings and/or magic.
>>
One thing that made my time forcing easier and more enjoyable, if letting loose about my inhibitions.

I don't mean sexually, I mean when I started building my tup, I tried to be as open as I could be with her. I didn't worry much about how autistic it was, since the very fact that I was going through with it was autistic enough, I had no reason to care. I'd go to a private place, and I would let loose emotionally to her, and did it without much of a care.

Though all that, she turned out okay,

>>
So I found out that my tulpa can make me feel head pressure.

When I ask her to do it I'll feel pressure soon after. The pressure doesn't last very long. Usually anywhere from a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes.

She said it's hard to explain how she does it and sometimes I don't feel anything when she tries. It's so cool to me. Almost like a physical interaction between us.

If you have a busy life it's much more likely that you'll give up straight away, unless you're pretty good at distributing time. This process is time consuming, don't forget that.

I feel like your insecure and it's probably because you don't fully understand the process. There are more fleshed out tulpa guides available today, don't be afraid to use one of those as your base.

>that's pretty shitty analogy.

>>3705808
well, "should I do it again" its a vague question with many answers and frankly, it shouldn't be a question to ask, especially if he read all about it already. It's a big responsibility and if he can't start it without stopping, then he shouldn't start again.
>>

It's a hard thing to make a pro/con list, as you have to look at what you want and are expecting from it. The pros are whatever your motivation is for making one, some cons are:
>takes a lot of time
>takes a lot of small amounts of effort
>never really alone again
>is a responsibility

We can't really tell you whether it's worth it or not, unless we know your motivations.

>>
>>3725623

I only started keeping notes and writing down stuff I did in the last few months myself. I had more than one tup to tend to aside from my first one, so I decided to record the stuff I did with her, and the sort of techniques I used to build her up. I don't have any plans to share it, though. I just want to make sure it sticks in memory, and that I have a reference if I ever need it.

It's a combination of many things. Some of the typical FAQ/Irish stuff, as well as some active imagination, memory and law of association, and other things.
>>
Here is an experience I had today with my tup:

Me and a few friends went on a hike, and we ended up having to change trails, to a harder one that I was personally unprepaired for. I started suffering from heat stroke after a while, and fell behind a bit, coupled with dizzyness and nausea. My tup noticed and was a bit distressed, helped me to clarify my thoughts and gave me a push mentally to make it to our destination.

I enjoy the host/tulpa relationship.

Nah, it isn't hard. I usually just read it to her, we'll usually discuss stuff after I'm doing reading a chapter/short story or whenever something insane happens. My don't normally think in words, but I do when I read stuff, so it's pretty easy to read stuff to her.

We hope your life gets better asap, anon!

Can I get some TL;DRs of creating a tulpa? I read all these guides and they're all different. How did you go about getting a sentient tulpa?
>>
>>3737755
Anon, that's because it's a pretty personalised experience. Here is the crux of it:
>imagine and flesh-out a personality
>talk to that personality for a long-ass time
>tulpa!

Everything else is just icing on the cake.

Hey other Gardeposter. Was trying to focus on Tulpa creation more so I decided not to visit as to not get distracted.... Got distracted anyway so here I am. As for progress, she still doesn't respond or if she does I think I'm speaking for her.

Do I HAVE to come up with a personality? I would rather have them discover themself.
>>
>>3738570
Make a simple framework and let it deviate from there. You can't work with NOTHING.
>>
>>3738570
You have to have an idea of how they would react. You don't necessarily have to do a whole personality exercise, but if you have no idea how they're supposed to act, you aren't going to get very far.

Your concern is a legitimate one, but once they're developed enough, they'll be able to have whatever personality they decide for themselves.
>>
>>3738570
Think of a tulpa like a non-retarded cleverbot. When you interact with it in new ways it develops a response to that new situation based upon what it already knows. Personality will develop the more time you work on it, but unless you have at least some basis to start from you will never get anywhere. Your subconscious desires about what you want can subconsciously create this foundation or you can do it more deliberately, but you have to at least get the ball rolling.

Damn, what a shame. But I suppose it's at least something to get a tulpa that over time comes up with their own personality.
>>
>>3738941
Also do I have to come up with political values and such? When I think personality I think more in terms of being talkative versus quiet and so on.
>>
>>3738987
No, a general outline of a dozen or so traits is more than enough. You can be as specific or general as you want but there is no guarantee that everything will stick. Some tulpas totally accept the personality they are given while others deviate completely and become the exact opposite of what the creator intended. But the tupla tends to be a good match for the body's personality no mater what.

not that dude but im an unorigional unimaginative fuck.
could someone describe what sort of personality traits they used, so that i could pirate the idea?
>>
>>3739317
Here are some examples from the list that I made for my tup:
>Sociable
>Rational
>Independent
>Encouraging
>Soft-Spoken
>Serious
>Nagging

When coming up with these traits, and ritualising what you want out of them, you should focus on the positives and negatives of that trait. For example, serious is really nice because I can rely on my tulpa to help me if I need it, but she gets annoyed if I become irresolute.
>>
>>3739317
Just start with something like "optimistic" or "idealist" if you are pessimistic and pragmatic. Valuable long term as you can find the middle road between your two opinions on any given subject and creates a fairly easy distinction on lots of topics that allows you to work from there.
>>
I'm thinking about what personality traits I want my tulpa to have and I figured opposite traits of my own would be a good start. Kinda difficult though since I'm so deep into defensive irony and meta thinking that I don't know what I'm really like. Worse yet my personality changes drastically with what bipolar phase I'm in.

Also, for traits where I'm somewhere in the middle, should I make my tulpa be more restrictive or more extreme? For instance I'm slightly unsympathetic. If she's more sympathetic then I fear she'll be nagging on me like a mother figure, but if she's less sympathetic then she might persuade me to do bad things.
