An anon wrote a short story about VR/Cutie where Cutie accidentally reveals she's barren to VR during their first time, so they stop, Cutie breaks down and tells him that how she got lost in the woods one day, slipped, broke her leg, caught a flu from exposure to the elements, and was found the next day. Then when she came to in the hospital her dad left her bedside to go out into the hall to let the rest of her worried family know she woke up. Somehow those two events combined to leave Cutie with crippling abandonment issues which somehow leads her to constantly seek out male attention in the form of being a huge slut.
Basically ended with VR being one of Cutie's three husbands (the other two being OCs that he threw in on the spot)
All in all a pretty serious step backwards IMO

You still get a lot of stories about these sorts of things back in the old world, or colonies where the old populations came to new lands. After all, it's mammal nature to try and explain the unexplainable, and to find scapegoats for when things go wrong. And so a lot of old customs from old cultures are just about that, explaining things with the construct of human.
When people went missing, it was common to think that they wandered too far into the forest, and that the fair folk, the humans, got them. There are stories about how they capture mammals and use them as slaves with collars and the like, to befuddle their mind with magic and make them docile. And of course, they are supposed to be the cause of changelings, sending little sprites like monkeys dressed in mammals furs to impersonate people.
Folklore, of course. There's not chance at all that it could be real.
It's still weird how some people still believe in them, though. There are still places in the world where construction is brought to a halt when people think it's going to be disrespectful to the humans in the woods. But then, they have a culture that for the longest time believed in this tall, clever, and above all cruel, creatures living just out of sight.
