I made a bear head recently (Balaclava/foam base) which is semi-realistic, and i'm thinking of making more.
I'm situated in Australia.

The biggest flaw is in the sculpting and the shape of he muzzle, and unfortunately I'm not sure what to recommend there to get better at it (I'm not one of those artsy type of people either). Maybe do a whole bunch of practice with clay to try and figure out the anatomy of a good looking anthro.

If it costs you $3500 to attend Anthrocon, you're doing it wrong. Look for rooms to share with people and that will bring the cost down significantly. Excluding travel expenses you should spend more than $500 for the weekend.

Surprisingly good; dunno how they stack up against a real fursuit head but in a choice between first-try derpsuit and this I'd pick this anytime.
Main issues are the fur quality (maybe; I've no experience with fake fur period so I'll leave that to someone with more experience) and the fact that your mouth and nose may be somewhat visible out of the mouth unless you wear a black balaclava or sew some black fabric inside of it. I'd also say the color might be an issue for some but apparently it takes rather well to spraypainting, according to an Amazon review I saw.

I'm really sorry to hear that anon. My parents have never cared, but my boyfriend went for a month or so where he had to live at a friend's house and his dad wouldn't talk to him; this was while we were still long-distance.
It was really hard on him, but his dad eventually came through and now he's helping him out with college, and says he'll always love him no matter what. For some people it's hard to come to terms with, but most parents I know have eventually realized their son is still the same person, and being gay doesn't make you someone else.

They're kinda old, and sorta ignorant/bigoted so I am prepared for the worst, but at the same time they always seemed caring. It's very hard to read, if they were obviously terrible people this whole thing would be easier and I wouldn't care so much about hurting or upsetting them.

I've thought that too before, and it was certainly easier with some of my family when I was in denial and had an attractive girlfriend. My grandparents also keep asking why I don't have another one yet, and I just say I need to focus on my career and save money!
But I also think it's been easier to find men that share my interests, and I'm kind of really happy that I get to be sexually attracted to someone I also love to just hang out with. Nah, never been to a con either. I moved out this february, and didn't want to get to into furry stuff while i was still living at home, or when I was in college.
