I found out about this comic 3 days ago. When I started, I didn't know it started in fucking 2009. Currently I am just past the all lizard colony.
What I wanted to ask, though, is what the fuck is up with Aaron marx? Is he just a cop out character or something? Everytime he shows up, I grown and almost dont want to continue.

Marx is a character Aaron Neathery created in middle school, is likely derived from some sort of imaginary friend he had at an even younger age and possibly functions as some sort of vicarious wish-fulfilment self-insert in the modern day.
He's shown up in one form or another in all of Neathery's works. He has always been a colossal douchenozzle, even in the abortive comic where Neathery tried to make him the protagonist, and it's a mystery as to why Neathery thinks this is appealing, unless you consider that, due to its origins, the character may be such a deeply-integrated part of his psyche that he can no longer see it the way others do.
Things Neathery has said in emails suggest that he's rather unfortunately going to be a big part of the comic's backstory, which is canonically linked to one of Neathery's mediocre college-era comics, "Albert and Free Energy", in which Marx destroyed a reality eerily similar to the pre-war Endtown 'verse via pure bone-headed stupidity and a sociopathic degree of carelessness.
You are not alone in disliking him, or finding that he makes the comic worse whenever he turns up, or in feeling that he cheapens the story.

Those two characters were literally lifted wholesale from his main college-era comics, "Albert" and ..."Daycare", I think it was. The comics were set in the same world (a sort of predecessor world to the Endtown universe - it was destroyed wholesale at the end of "Albert and Free Energy" and the Endtown universe, or even multiverse, is possibly somehow constructed from the shattered remains), and their protagonists were in a relationship.
As to why the switch, well, it's a combination of things.
The comic was always intended to occasionally switch to different protagonists (though it's now been on Wally and Holly for so long and they've come to define the strip so well that it might as well be about them, no matter what Neathery says), and we are apparently due at the end of the year for a switch to Dottie and Walt from Endtown proper.
It's also a matter of Al and Gustine being "concluded" characters in Neathery's mind - he doesn't seem to think there was anywhere else he could take them, so he took the opportunity presented by a change of comic websites to switch the focus to a brand new pair of characters that were created specifically for the strip. In my opinion, the strip seems to work rather better with them than it did with the "recycled" Al and Gustine.

Something that's been in my mind recently is how seemingly unnecessary is for topsiders to stay in their suits. They might not know what the "virus" is but not being able to create decontaminated rooms with their level of technology sounds like bullshit. If they suspect the virus to be a biological agent they should be able to use Amesworth radiation to make safe zones and special mechanisms to get out of their suits safely into those zones. If they can still produce mutts, PTs, Zero Guns and satelites then they shouldn't have trouble producing special docks and seals and other technology they need for it. Either Aaron is underestimating how far scientists can go to solve a problem or he knows something we don't, that they actually could find a way to make it work but something among them prevents them from even trying.

They think killing mutants will eradicate the cause of the mutations. We haven't seen much of their civilizations outside of when Flask tried to kamikaze the Opabinia queen into one of their domes or whatever. They probably have small areas "safe", but I think they're still afraid that the air is too thick with whatever contagion as long as mutants are around. Also, Aaron hinted that maybe Topsiders aren't the only faction vying for control of the Great Wastes, so maybe post-WW3 warfare limits the amount of time they can spend working on countermeasures to mutagens. Topsiders and Apex overall seem pretty bloodthirsty, so it would make sense they devote a significant amount of work to culling what they think is the source of mutation and working to defend themselves against rival groups, whatever those turn out to be. A lot remains to be seen when it comes to Topsiders, I'm looking forward to Monday's update for sure.

If they have have the tecnology for artificial insemination through microsurgery they should know that it could be used on a larger scale to safely transport people into decontaminated area which can easily be created thanks to Amesworth adiation. The only way it wouldn't work is if the mutagen isn't biological and if so they would realize it, if they haven't yet that can only mean that haven't tried but why?
