As for the other part, you have to understand the state of the general's culture before all this shit happened and why it was (at least to me) completely unique from any other fetish general I've ever seen. It focused far more on the fetish content rather than the sex of the characters, and it attempted to be as varied as possible. I would also say that as a whole the userbase was surprisingly mature. For example, there were a few people who would've preferred a split, but they were mature enough not to throw up a shitstorm when a majority disagreed with that.
This situation was completely suitable for the thread. It encouraged a fuckton of content creation and allowed for a lot of interesting, relaxed discussion while still allowing for complete anonymity. Though as much as I generally hate blaming the typical newfag boogeyman for shit, issues really only started arising when these threads (along with the board as a whole) started to speed up. These went from being a thread-a-week general to a thread-every-three-days general in about two months, and hostility became increasingly common. Rather than integrating into the culture of the threads, a small number of the new posters seemed to actively bring unwanted shit here, eventually culminating in the fiasco that was the thread where ElCid came in. Drama bullshit like that just didn't and wouldn't have happened previously, yet now there were people shitting up the thread with /furry/-esque arguments about stuff rather than being able to calmly discuss things. I think that that was the tipping point for things noticeably going to shit.

What's there to discuss? It's over and done with, for now at least; if you want to avoid /furry/ tier arguments, then shitposting them away into oblivion, or ignoring them outright, is the way to go rather than actually taking them seriously.
I am not opposed to the thread merging into the bi-thread (although I would prefer the threads to split along sex-lines), but with how these threads have been slowing down over the past few weeks, I assume that'll happen in another month or two.
The great thing about this whole shitstorm is that it likely drove off a whole bunch of those newfags, and that we should be right back to square one when the threads finally slow down enough.

I actually have to disagree with this. The fact that the split even happened in the first place and that this thread has managed to stay active has just validated the shitposters who started originally, proving that if they make things shitty enough eventually they'll just win. I'm conflicted on this. On one hand, I fucking hate strawmanning issues and I think that a silent majority of newfags probably managed to integrate just fine.
