Did you actually expect anybody here to have productive hobbies?

No but I want to, if Toby Fox can make millions off a shitty pixel game, why can't I?

I wanted to make a MLAATR vn on RenPy but got lazy and only wrote one episode and drew Jenny's sprite.

Recently found a GM project I worked on a bit ago and was seeing if people were wanting to try it out. I'm kinda driven by making a product for others to enjoy, so the whole "Make it for yourself!" thing doesn't really apply to me too much....so once I saw nobody gave a shit about my game I really had low as hell confidence in even continuing it at all.

Anyways, yeah I've made attempts at quite a few game projects on my own over the last few years. The one in question is a platformer that I'm probably going to turn into a 2D oriented Rareware styled collectathon.
>>
Does kickstarting a project count?
>>
>>3043619
Gonna say 'no'.

I'm sure your contribution was appreciated, though.

A halfway done top-down shooter for a Java course. Would be fully done if I had confidence and the ability to concentrate for more than five minutes at a time, but then I wouldn't be on /trash/.

Though, I have to say, it's surprising how far you can go with virtually no programming experience.

In Wikipedia there is a big list.
For starters, Deus Ex was made on Unreal Engine 1.

You can achieve pretty good results, since you can program it in C++.

I'm pretty sure he helped make music ever since the start of the comic back in 2009, and I remember the general saying was "even if Homestuck is trash, the music is good". So he got a pretty big following just from that.

I've been playing around with Construct 2. I was making a platformer that was going to be a Flicky clone, but I've been thinking about making it into a sidescrolling arena shooter in the vein of something like XEvil.

>>
>>3053481
Yeah it initially was more akin to Super Meat Boy as a traditional speed platformer, but seeing as the group of people who actually seem to enjoy those games is awfully small...I felt like getting into a more casual demographic. At least, for the start of the game. I'd go fuckin crazy in the end with difficulty. I accidentally made the damn game demo too hard, demo being the traditional platformer form though.
>>
I want to make a game, but I also don't have the attention span for programming.

I can write music, and I can do pixel art. I could probably write decently as well if I had to, but programming? I can't commit to it.
>>
>>3035296
I tried to make text-based survival game focused on time management, looting form around abandoned city and crafting shit together.
All written in C and executing in command line.
Sadly, got bored pretty quickly, dropped it and lost the code.
I should try again sometime.

>>
>>3074480
More the latter but I also don't know how to make clearing the console (System("cls") with Windows.h with C/C++) platform independent.
When I started it, all I knew was some numerical manipulation in Java I'd been taught at Uni for one of the modules.
>>
>>3074615
Yeah, boredom happens.
I made a gimmicky procedural infinite platformer, but never bothered to polish it.

As for your console clear, you could have the code check what OS it's running on during startup, and then chose a cls method based on that, or just have the method check itself.

Even if someone came up to me saying they want to make a zombie Pony shooter game I'd still at least give constructive criticism and be like "....okay here's an idea...how about a different idea?"
>>
Trying to make income through my creations. I use Love2D, which I really like. I enjoy the versatility of Lua as a core language.
>>
>>3093493
I basically got a series of "Yeah, don't."s And it wasn't zombie pony shooters, it was sensible stuff.
>>
>>3093646
What exactly were the ideas? I bring up ideas and people at least show somewhat of interest, but nothing more than that and I feel no incentive to keep going usually.
>>
>>3094012
Most recent were
>co-op shooting; get points for capturing locations, but locations can only be captured by friendly AI fulfilling some kind of actbusy behaviour nearby. (enemies were gonna be guys with guns with a few variations, not zombos or unarmed ayyliums or w/e)
>singleplayer adventure/puzzle; guide an NPC through an area safely to accomplish some objective by activating or deactivating objects by remote as your buddy needs, and suggesting the safest route
>multiplayer FPS B-ball/Football/EuroFootball
>extreme long range sniping gallery (with drop and wind etc of course)

those are the main ones that aren't just "it's a hl2 mappack deal with it" or truly unworkable pipe dream ideas guy bullshit
>>
>>3094439
Most of those aren't terrible ideas, though the puzzle game sounds like you just took Portal 2's co-op mode and changed the 2nd player to an AI.

Then again, they also had a Pac-Man game like that on Super Nintendo which was not only ahead of its time, but also not very good.
>>
>>3094719
I never played the co-op in Portal 2. But doesn't that have you in the level fucking around with stuff with your partner, often in sight of eachother?

The intent in my thing is to have you in a totally different location, watching your buddy through screens or something. The goal is to put you in the shoes of the mission control/exposition/narrator character that most action games have to keep the player going the right way, and occasionally providing justification for certain sequences. Like, instead of having a holdout section in a shooter while your buddy "hacks a door" to justify the timer until you're allowed to move on, you're the one actually doing the hacking, and source of tension is that your little dude might die in the firefight before you're done.

I considered retooling the concept so you're a little closer, like if you have a heist in a hotel, you'd enter with your buddy and skulk around finding network access points or something, but it started to seem too much like a Deus Ex ripoff with no combat.
>>
>>3094439
First two immediately sound like escort missions turned into a game from the description alone so that might drive people away initially. I personally never was into most FPS styled games but something sports oriented could have its own fanbase to it. Sniping Gallery sounds like it might not be too great as a full on game but a neat little thing to play. The game's are realistic, but yeah from my personal view I'm not sure how captivated I am in them.
>>
>>3095373
The first was intended to have a LOT of AI charges. Kinda like how in Titanfall, the robot mooks continually respawn.

The second is objectively supposed to be an escort mission, but it's not like escort missions are ALWAYS bad. Like RE4, or the AI buddies in CoD games.

The other two are just single mechanics stretched out, yeah. But it's still not complete NO FUK U ANON NEVER DEV EVER AGAIN territory, right?
>>
>>3095507
Yeah I personally just don't care for the ideas much, but I'm not saying they are genuinely bad ideas. People would like it, I'm just probably not the proper demographic.
>>
>>3095886
Well, that's okay. They're admittedly pretty niche without being terribly original.

>People would like it
Most people I tell about these things tell me to quit while I'm behind. In fact, the only times I've gotten positive responses to this stuff is when I start the conversation off on a whiny foot -- when I'm already happy and confident in my ideas, that's when I get most told to fuck off and never touch the mod tools again.
>>
>>3074334
the ships need hentai
>>
>>3097195
Maybe just bad luck? Cause not really mattering how you show off your projects I'd usually try and not be an utter ass about it unless you were being one initially.
>>
>>3052048
But only Earthbound fans played that. It has little to do with Tobyfox himself, but the horrible fandom that his game brought.

>>3063618
A Markov Chain is basically a state machine with probabilities instead of inputs.
>>
>>3098609
I only got into trying to make stuff for release recently, and my earliest memory of being told to FUCK OFF was sitting with my buddy in a McDos while he was getting his car rust-treated or something. I described the

>singleplayer adventure/puzzle; guide an NPC through an area safely to accomplish some objective by activating or deactivating objects by remote as your buddy needs, and suggesting the safest route
and he just tore it apart. It's like every single piece of every single piece was itself as offensive as the whole. Reminds me a lot of that Kafka bit, "A Little Woman". But in any case, he summarized it himself with
>"It's all just edgy pikmin; Why don't I just play pikmin?"

Nevermind that it's not at all pikmin-like; in that game, you're with your crew of plant people, they replenish, and you give direct orders. But fuck it. It's just edgy pikmin.

Another time, with another friend, I proposed the

>co-op shooting; get points for capturing locations, but locations can only be captured by friendly AI fulfilling some kind of actbusy behaviour nearby. (enemies were gonna be guys with guns with a few variations, not zombos or unarmed ayyliums or w/e)
thing. He hemmed and hawed, but basically said it was trash. We played titanfall that evening, and the gist of the Hardpoint gamemode is basically that -- point capture with AI mooks. A Pilot can capture a point, and it's competitive, but still. It's point capture with AI mooks to shelter.
>>
>>3047747

Undertale ruined Earthbound's fandom? Are they intertwined now?
>>
>>3098829
Oh, also, I'd never played Titanfall before that evening. I didn't even know what it was about, what engine it ran on, or that Black Ops III isn't a ripoff of it. I legit thought it was just Call of Duty: Black Ops II with Airdashing until I played it that evening.
>>
>>3098829
They're too lazy to get their own valid points and just say your game is too alike another. League of Legends is pretty much DotA, doesn't stop the two games having their own fanbases.

Sort of yes and sort of no.

A long time ago I attempted to make a total conversion mod for TES3:Morrowind I had script extender in and I'd roughly coded out a limited physics behavior for an object, I was essentially going to recreate the sport from those god-aweful bionicle movies with dwemer centurion. The ball was going to be a little ball centurion that would stop in place in the goal and do a little dance animation. I even skipped days in highschool because I didn't want to stop working on it. Never finished, Never even got around to modeling the dwemer robot that the player was going to control. It was going to have a big scoop hand.
I also attempted to make a mod for Assasin's Creed: Black Flag that would add an interaction to the start of the game that would fuffil the flags required to get on your pirate ship and unlock all of the mechanics you have at the end of the game. So you could play the pirate ship bits without suffering through the actual game. Sort-of worked, I was going to add more stuff to do on the ship before releasing it. Hard drive it was on crapped out.
>>
>>3098829
I really love the narrator/mission control puzzle game idea. The idea that the NCP is an "action hero" and you're the off-screen narrator is honestly pretty clever and original. I would absolutely buy a game like this (as long as the gameplay was fun.)
