Tg really works for me, especially when it's slower and the person can react or adjust as it happens, especially male to female or cboy. Also fun in my mind is ending with a scalie male with internal bits. Unfortunately a lot of that tends to go immediately to aroused scalie male when it would be so easy to get some more reaction and story by having them unaroused, at least for a moment. Either way you get confusion of a male 'losing' his male plumbing to be apparently female, or fascination of a female gaining a ponos hidden in a slit. Human to anthro is nice, and anthro to anthro is slightly better, depending on how it's done. Wildcard to feral really depends on the story or artist, but often it doesn't do a lot.
What kills it is poorly executed art or story, and especially mind wipe. The point, for me at least, is to take a new perspective or have to square a previous reality with the current one, and how the person will have to change to accommodate for even basic tasks. But if the pervious personality is totally wiped away all too conveniently, it loses the point, and invariably takes a much bigger psychological horror angle that just ruins it right at the end. Not a fan.
Jumping off a previous point, I really like when the sequence doesn't stop moments after the tf/tg finishes, but keeps going, exploring in detail what the person needs to do to adjust to their new life in a clever or ironic way. This is way more common in writing, but a few examples exist of extended comics. Black Tapestries jumps to mind, but it sadly died away a few years ago. It still has a lot of content despite this.
