I dealt with this earlier. So I commissioned 2 pictures from an artist late March of last year. He shows me some sketches and I approve them. He then puts out new personal art every couple of days. After a month I ask him for an update on the commission and he says that he's a bit backlogged. I ask him again 2 months later and he says the same thing, all while putting out new art. Being as patient as I am, I wait another 3 months to ask, and he still claims to be backlogged. He's even done a few commissions for other people during that time and only took a few days for each. I asked him again after exactly 10 months and 177 pictures had gone by since I paid him and he finally finished up my commission.
Luckily the few artists I commission only take a few days if there aren't a bunch of other people ahead of me.
