It was a lot of fun! I lived there for about 2 months last Summer for a study abroad program. It's bizarre being in a country that doesn't speak your primary language, especially when I knew very little German going there. But you learn quite a bit just getting by. I definitely want to go back, and I might even consider living there.

Do you only have that issue when you're on paper? If so, I do understand that it's much more difficult to correct for mistakes when you're working traditionally, but you gotta just keep going at it, a big part of developing confidence drawing is getting things wrong constantly. As for actual tips for getting Nick right, the football is just the base, and you can basically use it for everything regardless of the perspective. Past that, try just drawing a cylinder in various positions and attack it to the face, essentially those are the two ingredients that make his face. Using basic tutorials is great in the beginning, but you have to start extrapolating more information to start doing your own thing.

I've heard that jumping rope helps build hand/feet rhythm coordination, especially when you throw in stuff like double unders. Wire jump ropes only costs like 7 or 8 bucks on amazon. I'd suggest checking it out.

The name of the game is simplification. If you can recognize the lines and shapes that make up what you're looking at, then you can make those simple lines and shapes instead of exactly what you see. Then if you want to go really stylized, you go into caricature territory and pick out defining traits from what you're looking at and fuck with their makeup.

I didn't really have any good ideas from the video directly, but more indirectly it made me think of an interesting psych eval I had in my office couple of weeks back.
Schizophrenic patient with auditory command hallucinations. From demons, he said. He had gotten a tattoo of a cross on his face to ward them off, but it had only made them angrier. Now they were telling him to remove it, so he'd taken a razor and begun to cut it off himself.
The cops that usually bring in psych patients like this really hate these types of assignments. We want them to be present if the patient is liable to turn violent, but in the vast majority of cases they're just babysitting us for hours. It's a waste of their time and prevents them from being somewhere where they might make a real difference, so they subtly or overtly apply pressure on us to make our examinations hastily. In edge cases where use of involuntary commitment is considered it might take a long time to reach a decision, and no matter the outcome always I spend a lot of time ruminating on if I did the right thing.
