I loved the headcanon of the Gems taking care of baby Steven, having it disproved made me sad mostly because of all the time I spent thinking about it, and because of the uncomfortable implications it raised.
It just strikes a really bad chord with me, knowing that it must've taken years before the Gems even wanted to be associated with Steven at all. What did they do in between Rose's death and the extended intro? Absolutely nothing?
