Good morning /sug/
How did you sleep?
Do thier gems experience weathering?
Actually, I've been thinking about what I said in the last thread about dating (>>243050 >>243167) and how it conflicts with what Pearl said about learning knighthood from humans (Sworn to the Sword). I know that the traditional explanation is that Pearl found out about knights long after the war, and is just simplifying the story, but...
I know this is dangerously close to "Ash is in a Coma!", but what if the Gems actually arrived on Earth in the Early Middle Ages (roughly 1000AD), and the Gem War fucked enough shit up to basically collapse human civilisation. That way Pearl could have learned about Knights early on, and human forces could have actually been a significant factor in the war (Hence Greg talking about human deaths in "The Return").
From there the immense damage to the environment and small remaining populations could have slowed human development, so it took then another 4000ish years for humans to reach 21st C technology. This would put the current date in SU at approximately 6500AD (Jesus Fucking Christ), and more than account for peoples unwillingness to enter sites of Gem conflict. A severely fucked up planet could also explain the continental damage shown in maps, and maybe the absence of large and powerful states/governments.
WHY IS PEARL CONSTANTLY SALTY

>Eventually, a gemstone, a pearl, is made
>A pearl is many layers of hardened saliva built up around a single, small object

I know that's not really evidence or proof towards you being correct; I'm just letting you know that you are not some lone autist who is overthinking things.
And, yeah, I can see that happening. It probably won't be some giant reveal at the season finale or anything like that, but would be hinted at less and less subtly building up to the episodes where that actually matters.
I think that would be pretty cool.

>>243688
>I've also speculated that that could be the case,
Huh, Okay,
>but there's nothing really tangible that backs it up
It's complete speculation,
However, it is a bit interesting that people tend to assume that the Gem War had a fairly small affect on Humanity's development, when it clearly did a shitload of damage to the planet.
>>243738
> I'm just letting you know that you are not some lone autist who is overthinking things.
I'm definitely overthinking things, but it's nice to know I'm not alone.
>And, yeah, I can see that happening. It probably won't be some giant reveal at the season finale or anything like that, but would be hinted at less and less subtly building up to the episodes where that actually matters.
I'm pretty confident that SOMETHING of this kind is going to show up. The show's dropped way too many hints about dates and maps and history for it all to just be irrelevant.
>>243731
>>243755
>>243784
>Gem Origins.
Oh, I have an equally nutty theory about that too.
Mineral clays will grow in wet areas, where they build up layers in a repeating pattern. Due to external factors, pieces of that clay will sometimes break off and start growing elsewhere - imitating biological life. To cut a long story short, a guy a while back suggested that if different clay structures have slightly difference amounts of success at spreading and growing, they would undergo basic natural selection. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_Cairns-Smith#Clay_hypothesis
If you had a planet with the right conditions but none of the chemistry needed for organic life, the formation of fairly advanced mineral-based life isn't completely impossible.
>>243906
>Complex mineral life
>Grown from clay being pushed around
But doesn't that only imitate biological life from the stance of movement when things get overcrowded? What would stand in for predators? I guess a lack of a metabolism would explain away stuff like disease, famine, and drought.
Yo, this weekend there are gonna be gem market at my uni.
Im going out to see what I can find and maybe even buy there.
Will report when back.
Wish me luck.
>>243979
Which gems do you hope to find?
Please, please for the love of Steven, don't make a shrine.
>>243948
>But doesn't that only imitate biological life from the stance of movement when things get overcrowded?
No. Mutations can form during growth of additional layers, and clays that are better at absorbing minerals or spreading in an environment will dominate those that aren't, so beneficial mutilations will get propagated.
>What would stand in for predators?
Nothing, at least initially. It took a very long time for the first predators to show up on Earth, and it seems reasonable that would be true elsewhere. (Predation only makes sense once competition for resources becomes significant).
>I guess a lack of a metabolism would explain away stuff like disease, famine, and drought.
The analogy to "normal" clays is only sensible for very early life, similar to the very basic early replicating proteins on Earth.
The process of evolution from a simple replicator to an organism that actually does things would be pretty interesting though. They'd have to find an energy source better than the energy given off by crystallisation.
Really though, we don't actually know much about how gems work. Where do they get their energy from? What is the "gunk" in the injectors made of?
>>243979
Good luck!
>>244011
Don't worry, shrines never really were my thing.
I'm going to look at some rocks, learn some interesting facts about gemstones, how and where are they created, they properties, stuff like that.
I'm probably not going to buy anything tho. I have some serious problems parting with my money.
I hope to see all standard gemstones you hear about all the time; rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and some less known ones too. Just to see them IRL, not only on pics.
>>244032
Tanks.
>>244032
Oh shit, that is full of the obvious blanks but... yeah, no that kinda makes sense. But that energy gap does kind of lead back to the whole predator thing.
If gems don't seem to draw energy from much of anywhere, then what resources would they compete over? why would there be predators? Did they manage to come so far without predators? If they did, would humans actually be a fair opponent despite the technological and genetic differences? Was HFY right all along?
>>244133
>Energy
Sunlight?
>>244164
Maybe, but even then there wouldn't be much need to compete, or if there would be, it'd favor being really large in order to get more surface area with which to absorb the sunlight.
In fact, the most likely species to survive might be one that could preserve several members together in several very large bodies.
>>244153
>implying I would ever post Japser
>>244133
> Did they manage to come so far without predators?
I'd say that's pretty unlikely.
>If gems don't seem to draw energy from much of anywhere, then what resources would they compete over? why would there be predators?
We don't know that gems "don't draw energy" - we just don't know where they get their energy from.
However, both assess to the best minerals for growth, and competition over energy sources could lead to predation.
>>244164
>Sunlight?
That's the obvious energy source, but it wouldn't supply very much energy given the kind of shit gems can do.
The other option I can really think of is that it's something to do with their hard-light abilities. Maybe that comes from somewhere, and gems collect it rather than producing it?
>>244217
>it'd favor being really large in order to get more surface area with which to absorb the sunlight.
Actually, being larger makes sunlight collection harder. Surface area (collection) is second power of size, but volume (and thus energy use) is third power. There's a reason that the majority of photosynthesisers on Earth are small.
>>244217
Fusion.
Fusion is natural mechanism to gather several midget gems into one BigHuge MacLarge gem in order to gather more energy and assure survival.
Fusions are also stronger.
It all comes together.

I'm glad it's ending, because from what I've watched it seems like if the show had kept getting seasons it would have become terrible.

The writing for the characters aside from the Pines family was pretty bad. We didn't even learn enough about Wendy despite her being in the intro and working at the shack. Even Pacifica got more development than Wendy. Robbie was a big character in season one but they decide to handle his problems by brainwashing him with magic. And now Gideon changed his ways in less than a minute.
There's still a few episodes left so who knows what'll happen.

I really don't know. It might have had to do with the fact that the story only had the potential for a relatively small number of different designs. I mean, among the main protagonists, there were four potential toy designs, and I guess you could use the monster of the week as a toy (but only for the ones that actually are monsters and not that weird code lyoko stuff from that one episode). Your taste in women is really diverse and your taste in men is pretty bad.
Try again.

My phone is almost as old as rocks themselves, it doesn't have camera.
However, I did buy few things.
Lapis Lazuli.
Malachite.
Obsidian arrowhead.
Rose Quartz.
All of them quite small tho.
With entry fee, all about 5.5$
>>246105
Five dollars?
I thought gems would be way more expensive than that, maybe it's time to buy some...
>>246090
What would it be about? I'd rather have another RPG.
>>246006
Because it upsets Para, and Para being upset is hilarious
>>246123
It might be more expensive in Murrica, I calculated cost throu latest $ value.
Here where I live, that cash would buy you food for a week, maybe two if you gonna ration it strictly.

>Sorry for those who actually enjoyed my company
Why apologize to thin air?
>>243225
Seemingly because she developed a personality and free will (somewhat)
>>246140
If the crew could write a reason for Attack the Light to exist I'm sure they can think of something.
I just played R&C1 recently and I thought SU would mix really well with an action platformer, with the corrupted gems and clusters the enemy and boss fights could be really good.
>>246142
Is this real? Jesus Fuck.
Is someone really writing little "pity me" blogposts about how people on 4chan told them to fuck off?
Guys, the crystal gems' symbol as of Rose passing away is a star. Her gem had a pentagonal facet. Am I retarded for just now noticing this?
Morning /sug/.

They're all just communists, actually.

I'd say Garnet is way gayer.
She's literally two gay midgets.
>>246276
The original one says "World's Okayest Mom".
>>246308
I read that second panel as if it was written in Cyrillic...

KANDYOKHA VESELEY!
>>246308
Wow, someone's really trying hard to draw like chekhovandowl
>>246584
I really have no idea. There's some sort of fascination with Slavs or more specifically gopniks (Eastern European chavs) on the internet. Maybe it's because of all the Russians playing DOTA and CS:GO.
>>246142
At least now he's accepted he's a pedo and now draws porn of Steven and Peedee.
I wish I could read Russian/Slavspeak, even phonetically.
>>246591
Someone should redo pic related for the canon short peridot design.
>>246634
Learning Cyrillic is the easy part of learning Russian. Even though your pronunciation might sound funny to someone who's Eastern European.
>>246650
I've always had trouble rolling my Rs.
>>246142
What's Para's nationality?
I'm gonna ask him how that little boy cock tastes and I'd like to throw in a racial slur.
>>246464
He drew stuff? I thought he just liked little boys that smelled like fastfood.
Does any art of Peridot in a tuxedo exist?
>>246675
Yes, non-rolled Rs are the probably the most prominent feature of an English accent.
I looked it up on youtube and I didn't expect to see so many tutorials on how to roll your Rs. I never realized how difficult it might be for people, since I'm Lithuanian and we always roll the Rs.
>>246221
Aw shit, I never noticed
Lets play a game /sug/
Singles: go out for a night on the town with the gem of your choice. The result of the night will depend on your digit:

>7-9: date went even better, score a kiss
>0: date went spectacular, get laid
Dubs: marry the gem of your choice. She's your waifu4laifu
