Anti-porn thread? What are some shortcomings you would like to see this concept face in the future? What are some of the reasons you've stopped supporting this concept?

Neo-porn fans need not apply. This is not a flame war thread, but please keep it on subject. Also, posts praising porn should not be here, as this is a discussion of its questionable motives and overall obnoxiousness in it that we do not support.

What does your family think of you? Do they know you post this? Are you the quiet one at the dinner table that doesn't talk?

Maybe you're like that one Russian fursuit image of the disappointed parents?

Grow up, virgins. I just imagine fat 30 year old men as they slam their cheeto-encrusted fingers on the keyboard to type out their horny shitposts.

Porn is for those who are truly free because we live in America, where our standards aren't shown by how big our guns are but instead would focus on how much we love them. Same for porn, food, drugs, beer, and violence.

Why, so you guys can circlejerk over your confirmation bias? Im just saying.

That being said, I do hate most western porn. It's just directed grossly, showing close-ups of the mans face as he cums, or like, having really high-definition cameras that make all the imperfections, and the make-up, really stand out. That's why I've switched to reading doujins and hentai manga. Fapping is good for your health, and porn facilitates that.

Pretty much this. I can only imagine porn being destructive in two ways.

1. Consuming porn becomes an addiction that gets in the way of your daily functioning and general productivity as a person.

2. Exposure to porn creates unrealistic expectations for yourself and/or other people. For example, you assume that 8 inch cocks are a standard for men, that consent isn't necessary, that penetration can easily occur spontaneously without any sort of lubrication or preparation, or that communication in general isn't important for safe, consistently satisfying sex.

Most of this stuff is easily avoided if you're capable of practicing some basic critical thinking and/or take steps to limit your consumption of pornography.
>>
>>2037934
>Porn stops you from being normal
>You can't be a functioning member of society that contributes to the world because of porn.
>You can't let your expectations become unrealistic
Like that fucking matters in any way. People don't need to do shit for the world. If they enjoy looking at porn all day then they are doing nothing wrong.
>>
>>2037960
>If they enjoy looking at porn all day then they are doing nothing wrong.

People also need food, shelter, clothing, money to pay the bills, and a career to facilitate these things. The alternative to being completely dependent on someone else to meet these needs for you is to contribute to society in some way. Doing a thing that people will pay you money for.

Also, having a porn addiction doesn't necessarily mean the only thing you value or care about is porn. You may very well have other values (which are probably more important to you) that are being neglected due to your addiction. People rarely need one very specific thing to keep themselves happy and content throughout life.
>>
>>2038060
Yeah I know that, you can't survive without money. but I implied doing positive things for the world that some people just assume I am supposed to do, like cure cancer or make the world a better place and things. Simply making money doesn't necessarily do that.

What I am trying to say is that there may be people that solely enjoy porn and that's all they need, and if that is the case then there is nothing wrong with that. If an addition makes you truly happy there is nothing wrong with it.
>>
But it's so much more fun to sin.

Especially when it's something as vanilla as porn. I mean hell, you do realize there's some really fucked up stuff out there? Like people LARPing elaborate rape fantasies, or actually acting out those fantasies.

Porn is to unhealthy sexual fixation what violent video games are to violent crimes. It's a way to let loose and unwind in a controlled environment that doesn't actually hurt anyone.
>>
>>2038106
>I implied doing positive things for the world that some people just assume I am supposed to do

Curing cancer is pretty extreme, but I do think people should be encouraged to make contributions to a society that facilitates their opportunities. The extent to which that should be legally required of them (like paying taxes or the draft) is also debatable, but that's a totally different broad discussion.

>If an addition makes you truly happy there is nothing wrong with it.

I do agree with your hypothetical situation. I'm just skeptical of how many real people it accurately describes, and I think addiction more commonly ends up being a barrier in the way of long-lasting happiness. Outside of people that are genuinely autistic, nobody cares solely about engaging in one very specific activity. Which, maybe I'm being too dismissive of people on the autistic spectrum. I guess I'm focusing more on people in the general population dealing with addiction.

Also, if a person genuinely only cares about one thing and doesn't really give a fuck about doing anything else, then I don't think their singular pleasure would be considered an addiction. Addiction implies a reoccurring lack of self-control, whereas the person you're describing just has a very singular set of interests.
>>
>>2037934
>1. Consuming porn becomes an addiction that gets in the way of your daily functioning and general productivity as a person.

The same could be said of anything not done in moderation, from eating potato chips to playing video games. Hell you could even say putting too much of yourself into work is life disrupting.

Exposure to Action films creates unrealistic expectations for yourself and/or other people. For example, you assume being well toned quippy douche is a standard for men, that throwing a punch spontaneously into another persons face without a slightest provocation is the proper way to close any conversation.

>Most of this stuff is easily avoided if you're capable of practicing some basic critical thinking and/or take steps to limit your consumption of pornography.

No fucking shit, the same could be said of eating potato chips, playing video games or dare I say watching action flicks

Okay, but for the person who only uses porn as a tool when they're horny and want to masturbate, what about them? There are people who collect and view porn as a hobby, and then there are people who only pick it up when it's needed. Masturbation is going to happen either way; are you saying that you shouldn't masturbate with porn or that you shouldn't masturbate?
>>
>>2038523
>The same could be said for eating potato chips, playing video games, or working too much.

That's true. Addiction to junk food and video games are also problems that some people deal with. And while I'm not sure if it'd be technically classified as an addiction, it's also true that some people neglect other important areas of their life by focusing too much on their jobs.

>Other media can also form inaccurate expectations of yourself and/or others.

That's also true.

Are you agreeing and expanding on my points or trying to dismiss them?
>>
>>2038523
>>2038570
That wasn't a list of things porn does 100% of the time, it was a list of the only times porn would be considered destructive. Obviously if neither of those apply to you, than it's not having any real negative effect.

The entire point was that porn isn't any more harmful than any other form of entertainment.

>"porn is fine in moderation hurr hurr hurr" thread

You're either a coward who's backing away from their original position or you need to be clearer when you post.
>>
>>2038644
I'm demonstrating that your points are so broad as to be applicable to just about anything. If you are going to argue the damages that porn does than be specific and provide actual evidence. Even news articles would do. I'll even play devils advocate and point you in the direction of a genuine concern of too much porn consumption, impotence and escalation. Plenty of articles on that you could point to.
>>
>>2038744
>I'm already aware of articles that make your point, but I'd prefer you posted them yourself for the sake of your argument.

Why?

Either way, I'll throw out http://www.apa.org/monitor/2014/04/pornography.aspx as one quick example. TLDR, the article points out that there really needs to be more research done to explore the effects that pornography can have on people. One study it mentions found that 9% of men (within the study) were unable to quit viewing porn, despite attempts at doing so.

There's also mentioning of how porn can influence satisfaction of intimate relationships, but the data is all over the place. Some cases found porn to be beneficial, others found it to be a source of unease.

It seems like I need to clarify >>2037934

I love porn. I view it regularly. I don't think it interferes with my other interests or responsibilities. I think most people that view porn can say the same. So in general, I'd consider myself to be sex positive and porn positive.

But there's clearly a decent chunk of people out there that struggle with moderating their pornography consumption. Porn is also more likely to lead to sexual misinformation and poor assumptions due to the fucked-up state of sexual education throughout the world (or at least in the United States). I'm optimistic about this gradually improving as more and more people understand that abstinence education, silence, and misinformation fuck people up more than open and honest talks about sex.
>>
>>2039077
>I'm already aware of articles that make your point, but I'd prefer you posted them yourself for the sake of your argument.
>Why?

Because playing devils advocate doesn't mean I have to make your points for you, that is still on you to do as you believe in your points, not me.

I'm the other anon, but that was kinda my point when I said "Porn, like everything, needs to be taken in moderation".

Porn isn't a problem if you use it, or even keep a large folder of it, but it becomes a problem when it starts to have a negative influence on your life.
Say for instance, you decide to view porn and masturbate instead of doing work you need to get done. Now porn is a problem.
However, if you have no problem stepping back and getting shit done, or even abstaining for a day or two, if need be, then porn isn't a problem for you.

I'm not OP, nor do I agree with OP at all. I'm just pointing out that the post you're arguing against is in support of porn, not against it.

This entire conversation so far has pretty much been:
>Porn is only bad if you have no self control.
>THAT APPLIES TO EVERYTHING!
>Yes, that's my point.
>WELL YOU'RE WRONG!

I'm not sure that this was OP's goal, but he's getting plenty of evidence that excessive porn use causes mental retardation.
>>
>>2043751
Yes excessive anything causes retardation. But at that point it isn't the fault of "porn" but rather the individual. If someone is truly capable of jeopardizing there lives over pornography, than there are clearly much more sever mental issues at play there.
