Well, part of it is physical - I'm not really an ass man, even with women, and with guys I tend to like the chest and arms a lot more than anything else. I don't know if I would want to actually have sex, top or bottom. Even if I dared find a guy that I'd both like and be brave enough to want to try something with, I might never move on past cuddling and maybe foreplay. That doesn't seem fair to the other guy.
Another reason is more social - I don't want to be seen as a gay or bi guy, since I still see myself as very straight. Experimenting with dudes might be seen as desperation, and I certainly don't want there to be a 'coming out of the closet' deal. At best I poked my head into the closet and got curious.
And no matter how I try, I just can't imagine a guy I'd want to kiss or be in a relationship with, where I can parade a series of qt girls in dozens of fantasies.

As far as socially goes, you don't necessarily have to portray yourself to others in any one way. If you don't consider yourself to be someone you're not, then unless you're physically violating that description of yourself, like just flat out lying to yourself, then you're not. Fuck what anyone else thinks of you, you are who you choose to be. You should have to explain yourself to others unless you care about what they think and want them to understand for your own sake.
For me, it's a strange dilemma as well, since I clearly can't see myself as straight at this point, but "bi" doesn't really cover it either. I could see myself having sex with a guy if I really liked him and found him attractive, but the huge turnoff for me 99% of the time, is I don't find men's faces attractive like I do women's. That's probably the reason I enjoy this stuff as much as I do, since it removes the human male face from the equation. Not to say men's faces can't be attractive, I just can't see them in a sexual way without getting completely unnerved.

Even though I understand it's not an on/off switch, eventually you'll be better off when you learn to not care about how others see you, to a point. Appearances and such notwithstanding (I can't stand the sort who prance around with a lisp and being gay is the only fundamental center of their personality, or with furries and their fursuits or what have you, but whatever makes people happy I guess), how people eventually see you as you come to terms with yourself, should you change, is for the better. Not because you're better one way over another, but because you're honest with yourself, and as much as it feels odd to change your self-perspective, it's much more comfortable to accept any change that may come.

I kind of know what you mean about self-perspective and being honest with myself - I went through that with religion when I was younger, even if that involved different sorts of questions - but it's still a tough subject to think about from this side of the fence.

Being straight and enjoying gay things sometimes is a nice place to be. Allows you the comfort to be open to whatever but not have to make any sort of commitment or acknowledge any change in yourself unless you think it's reached that point where it's more than just thoughts and images. I didn't even really come to terms with most of it until a couple years ago, and some of this gay shit on my computer has been around like 10 years. Not that much has changed aside from telling a few people, and setting up/taking down an OkCupid profile that listed myself as bi and seeing that people I knew viewed my profile. That was really weird.
Religion is a strange thing for a lot of people these past several decades, most people I know have either fallen out of it or embraced it wholesale. It's easier for some to make that change than others (I went to church and all that for a good number of years before I just stopped going, not a second thought about it); it's an odd time for religion in this world. That's both a good thing and a bad thing, considering recent events.

I wouldn't want to ruin a porn thread with religion discussion, but how religion is treated has changed a lot. For a lot of people it's idle worship; for others it's a sign of nationalism and something to believe in and fervently follow, in good or bad ways. I can't really be sure where the future is going, but I think everyone has a right to believe what they believe, and I can't regulate what people think. Now church just makes me uncomfortable the rare times I go, which can be kind of sad with the people I know there that I like.

I can't speak for the experiences of others, but I see a lot of harm come to people with the good that religion can bring. Selfless acts are always welcome of course, but the religion I've seen and experienced is a double-edged sword. I know for a fact that over time, religion turned a good family member of mine into something he's not, and it's sad to see him lose touch with everyone else in his extended family as a result. From what I've seen, religion comes down to the individual acts of good that it can inspire in people who may or may not even necessarily follow the "religion" proper. The sense of structure it can offer is attractive to some, but that structure always seemed very unstable. Anyway, yeah, religion, porn thread, kind of out of place, haha. My experiences with religion haven't been that strong - the most faithful person in the family was my mother, and both my parents were professors and overall pretty lenient, though my mom was sad at first. Religion is what you make of it, and it just so happens that people make vastly different things of it, from extreme good to the worst things that have happened on this planet. I'd say that variance is a bit extreme for allowing something like that into your life where it could have such dire consequence, either on you or on others if you're inherently susceptible to the kind of manipulation some churches or individuals practice for their own benefit.
Religion with my family is rather uncertain. My mom always took me to church and to a religious class sort of thing once a week when I was younger, but even she can follow what I'm saying and has stepped down from religion properly in the past decade, she's just spiritual really. Hard to stay religious and believe in fate or a greater good when she had to deal with the shit she did. One of my older sisters doesn't really seem religious, but she blew up at me a couple years ago when I told her I wasn't going to go with her to church on Christmas Eve. Little did she know our other sister and my Dad were on my side and also didn't really give a shit about going.

Before I would have agreed with you a lot more on the manipulation front, but I've been taking pysch classes recently. People can be manipulated - or ironically, be harder to manipulate - in many ways that you really ever think about. Religion's not the only tool, just one of the more obvious ones. You have to be ready to look at what you're doing and thinking, and try to see what's behind those sort of thoughts, or if they're even really valid, as weird as that sounds.

Oh, by no means is religion the exclusive manipulation center. I know what you're saying, and yeah, manipulation is a bit of a tricky thing to really define in concrete terms. I didn't take any psych while I was in college, but I've talked to plenty of people in casual conversation about it, and it is a tricky thing to notice.
