Are Revolminis welcome here? I mentioned in the Revoltech thread that I think the 4" format's perfect for the Metal Gear franchise because it has so many characters, units, mechs, vehicles, etc. The only problem is that Kaiyodo's shit at making a decent amount of figures for anything that isn't Evangelion.

If another company picked up the MGS rights with the intention of delivering a GI Joe-style product line with all the major characters from all the games represented, generic soldiers, vehicles, Geckos and UGs, maybe even Metal Gears, etc - who would the best choice be?

Toy Notch would be perfect.
They already made Lost Planet toys tht no one is talking about and likely are never going to release any mechs.
>>
>>5235816
They claimed a 1/18 mech at $80 or somesuch that never materialized and only rose up in price from the initial announcement while, if memory serves, lessening in quality. The one vehicle that they did get out was one no one cared about because it didn't look like anything outside of Lost Planet.

That said, I do hope they aren't dead, we need some companies willing to go and try things. I miss Bridge Direct, even if their Smaug was shit.

Has anyone tried to replicate heads and weapons with clay and hotglue?

Saw the idea somewhere but I want to know if it actually works before wasting clay and glue. Not that is expensive or something but I don't have right now and dont want to buy just to throw it.

You know, make a mold with the clay then put hotglue in it. Does something actually usable out of there?
>>
>>5235816
I was really dissapointed with the lost planet figures, when I saw them on flesh they don't look like at all the ones in promotional images the colors are lot more soft
>>
>>5235829
Those are both horrible materials.
Clay wouldn't be able to get nearly enough detail unless your subject's mostly smooth to begin with, and even if it was, you'd end up with maybe a handful of usable mold-makings before it'd break on you.
Hotglue is similarly bad for not having great detail and you'd probably end up having it melt slowly over time if it was anywhere near heat.
>>
>>5235829
It works, but doesnt work well. Best to invest in a bit of supplies and tools and doing it right.

The powerloader is definitely holding me back. I don't like it enough to spend that much on it at that scale, and I'd feel weird if that was the only toy I didn't get out of the line.

Would you recommend I stick the the 1/12 Neca ones since I don't have any other 1/18 stuff, then, or is it not that bad?
>>
>>5236875
Is not that bad, not a real issue but you have to be careful. You just put the hands inside hot water before swap just for segurity reasons (so you don't have to make too much force minimizing the risk) is not that they will fall apart on its own.

Now about getting them considering you don't have other 1/18 stuff...I would tell you "No, stick to the 6 inches"

Why? Because the 4" alien figures are nicely done indeed but their main appealing is you can mix them with all the 1:18 stuff like Joes, SW black series, acid rain and get a good vibe. Like you know, they are the alien figure every Joe collector wants.

Having them on their own when the rest of your stuff is 1/12...I personally wouldn't do it (unless you really like one of them in particular) but of course is just an opinion.
>>
>>5236712
almost makes me want to go out and buy him, but it has such an ugly sculpt
>>
>>5236875
Theyre nice, but for the same approximate price($25 - 30 shipped), get a much larger neca figure. Unless you want a small hive in a more manageable space, I dont see any benefit since you dont have 1/18 scale to mix with.

The wrists are bad to stick once in the joint . Takes a bit of gentle back and forth to twist them free but not snap the peg. Without tripodding the tail, a bit hard to stand.

>>5236746

My complaints on the VS are mostly the weapons, nice but I have trouble with them falling apart/out the holster. My grey fox has poor shoulders, could come with a left hand for the sword at least, open mask head would have been great. Solid has some way oversized weapons.

>Revol minis are in the same scale range than joes
Except they're not.

They're too tall and too thick.
Only the head is 1:18 scale, which makes him look pinheaded.

Like someone mentioned, they'll have a lot of trouble fitting in 1:18 vehicles. Someone has him inside a 1:18 helicoptor and he just looks like a giant.
It wouldn't be that bad if they weren't so damn wide.

So you have three things going against the minis (art style, width, height) and thats why we don't see people going out to buy him for their Joes.
It's basically the same reason why we don't see a lot of mixing of GI Joes from the Vs, 80s, and 25th lines. Or DCIH, MU, and DCD's 3.75" lines.
>>
>>5239630
Godbi wish I could army build range vipers. They're rad af.

>>5239456
Yeah? I just didn't have any interest in the vehicles so I didn't think I needed a pilot in a flight suit running around on his own. But maybe I'll get the set and see if I can offload the vehicles and the orange guys.
>>
>>5239630
Pretty sure I saw myself buying both Revol minis for just that purpose, and a few other people. They may look out of place in some vehicles, but they look pretty nice in battle-scenes. I mean, they're about the same shape/size as MU Hercules.
>>
>>5239630
They are certainly slightly bigger but is close enough to put them together in the self or make some shots.

Of course if you put one side by side to see the difference there is difference but usually in poses they can do the trick, it won't be a perfect fit but will do the trick.

The same happens with DC multiuniverse or Marvel infinite series if you look them closely of course there is a difference but once they are posing they can work together.

I never said they are in the same exact scale, I used the word range for a reason, because this guys are in a range around 4 inches. So Revol minis are kinda compatible, isn't perfect but neither terrible, besides real people comes in different sizes, pic very much related.

And the main reason people don't mix ARAH GI Joes with the new sculpt and modern sculpt is precisely the sculpt and in some degree the body proportions, the styles are very different , the minimal difference in size only bothers some dudes.

Holy shit, there's a monster coming off the helicopter.

I think he looks reasonable though. I like when they manage to make certain joes taller, like Destro, Night Adder, The Rock and Bazooka. I just wish it didn't have to come at the cost of knees and/or ankles every time.

Cap2 Falcon fits well too.

It's quite interesting how good he fits the GI Joe aesthetic because of the simple costume. Too bad about the reduced articulation and lack of actual weapons.

>>5240368
>Keep in mind, modern joes are giants inside this tomahawk/eaglehawk as well. Heck, no way to fit a joe in a 1/18 car without taking their legs off.
GI Joe vehicles in general are dwarfs. They've always look big, but the Mini is even bigger, making it look even worse.
Also, GI Joes have always had a problem getting into 1:18 scale cars. Even before the scale switch and this is because the interiors are way too small. The seats are positioned way to the front, as if for a little grandmother. So any adult male would have trouble fitting.

Also, you ruined your Tomahawk with that Gundam Marker.

>>>5240390 the main reason people don't mix ARAH GI Joes with the new sculpt and modern sculpt is precisely the sculpt and in some degree the body proportions, the styles are very different , the minimal difference in size only bothers some dudes.
I don't think so.
Again, I point out Mattel's first 1:18 line, which is actually 3.75" scale. Same with DCC's. Most of them were really well detailed, but are manlets compared to MU/GI Joes. It was a pretty big deal and still is, enough that Mattel corrected themselves (as did other toy soldier lines).
Nevermind there is a style difference AND proportion difference with the minis too.

Yeah, there will be people who will overlook the scale difference, but it is an issue with many, enough that children's toy companies responded to nerd demands.

The scorpions are pretty bad from what I've seen, their claws are concave when you look at them from behind.
The Lost Temple of Akator is a fantastic playset, though it's a remold of a Star Wars playset. I'd also suggest the Akator Temple Race game, because the stairs have a decent spacing for 1/18 figures(or 1/12) and the game's gimmick is a perfect Indy style trap.

Basically, turn the top of the game and press down, a 'random' selection of stairs fold down to dump off anyone on them.

It's a shame we didn't get the full initial concept for this. Found this while hunting for a pic of the game, apparently they'd proposed a marble-drop function. Though if I had to prefer one versus the other, I'd go with the stair-drop instead.

Also, I really, really wish Hasbro had gone into stuff like this more with the Indy line. That's two separate "Deluxe" playset pieces combining to form a larger playset. Granted, it absolutely ruins the Temple Trap's gimmick(two panels flip up to chomp the person who doesn't remove the idol properly), but if they'd gone fully into the idea of multiple small dioramas connecting to make a temple run? That would have been amazing.

Yes. They have swivel hips. They're still a lot of fun.

The "Elite Force Combat Command" figures from a few years ago had one or two with ball hips I think.

I like these because they're a bit more realistic than PTE.

Most have wrists and ankle or calf joints, it just depends on the mold.

I haven't seen this set in person, but if I do I will probably pick it up. The only thing it's missing is a 0331.

Flint (convention version)/two of the Desert versions of the troop builder version of Ultimate Duke

Python Patrol New Viper mold and Python Patrol New Crimson Guardsman two pack

Range Viper and Jungle Duke. Both have new color schemes

Wet Suit in Battle Corp colors and Python Patrol Trooper using new Cobra Trooper mold

When it comes to sculpt and painting certainly are decent.

Money bags destro and poc beachhead.

range viper and crazy legs.

Airtight. Hazard viper. Zombie viper. Dont short pack it.

Retaliation combat ninja, crimson guard and joe trooper.

Foe vehicles maybe a mid size and small one for the 2 pack. Example, range viper and cobra twin battle gun VS vamp mk2 and steel brigade delta. Cobra Fury vs ram cycle. Would keep them from costing $50-60 a set hopefully.

Rather have Airtight with Law and Order, with all of the shit he was supposed to have to begin with.

Zombie Troopers are only popular because they were short-packed in a wave that barely got released/released again as a Joe-con exclusive.

Did some toy dusting over the weekend and realized I hadn't messed around with the Deviant in forever, took some time to stomp him around the room and knock over some Joes. POC had such a great line-up of awesome vehicles.

The horrors of war...

And buying cheap MISB joes from 2009. All the off them have that oily layer of leaked plasticizer and the elastic packaging bands have dried out, turning into dust.

Do you prefer blue Cobra or red Cobra?

I found mine last year around this time at a comic store for $15. Didnt have the cyber viper, but, blind luck had it I had found him loose at a local con.
>>
>>5260201

I prefer Blue, but Red looks good. Can always easily convert them to the Red Shadows.

>>5260257
I was going to give the Cyber Viper a spare loose body if/when I get one. Swap his vest and Head (I do love the Wild Weasel sculpt).

Nice use of the Flick Trix bike shop btw.

These at least were based on actual designs weren't they? Unlike their other "retro" abortions. This stuff all seems like peg warmer hell - unlike if they had released good looking firefly figs etc.

Finally found a third "troop build-up" set. Which is how many I wanted. It's a pretty great set imo.

Two questions:

1) What is that vest from and what originally went in that unused hole?

2) Has the three pack with the shock trooper been hitting retail yet? I think it's the only one I haven't seen.

1. Answered

2. Yes, but, is the only desired set it seems. Has hit tru online recently but sold out within an hour or two.

>>5260201
Both. Blue is Cobra Global. Covers all operations.

Red as an elite assault unit. Shocktroopers, alley vipers, night vipers and crimson guards. A few crimson horseman and hiss tanks for the heavy support.

Black is the top, shadow guard and most loyal.

Specialized vipers, heat, night, rock, range, etc etc, fit in as specialized mercs attached for mission specific tasks.

>>5260627
Thanks, and yeah, not a bad little building. Another anon has one but grey, and an anon has the stairs and other parts put to good use. Nice finds for cheap backgrounds at the least.

It reached Singapore retail last month. Definitely a fast-moving set since Alphine and Shocktrooper are both popular figures.

Does anybody have the white Jinx/Kim and want to trade? I've got three POC Shock Troopers, or one Shock Trooper and a Zombie to offer.

Might be interested in other offers, also may have other figures to trade. Mostly interested in ninja figs, Vypra or Night Creepers.

Oo did that cocoon come with the spooky spider? How many are there?
>>
>>5260201
>Do you prefer blue Cobra or red Cobra?

I like the charm of the blue more. Although black-red always cool.
>>
>>5261539
Cocoon is from the Animal Planet Giant Spider Play set, which comes with the cocoon, a stone arch with removable web barricade, a lantern, a 5 PoA human, a spider sprue(I think either 16 or 20 white spiders on it), a warthog that's supposed to go in the cocoon(there's enough room for a 1/18 human if they've got enough articulation to curl up or all the little spiders), and a giant spider that 'walks' when you roll it along the ground.

Given the size of >>5252892 I'm considering getting 2 more of the Spider play set so I can have it stuffed with cocoons. Just have to figure out a way to make them drop, because then it's a properly horrific dungeon boss.

Beast wars era basics.
>>
>>5265581
Scout/Basic/Legends(careful on the last one, it's used for a lot of other stuff) all fit into 4" size class.
As to 1/18 scale, they're few and far between. Beast Era stuff is all supposedly 'in scale' with each other, and some of the animals are 1/18. There are quite a few motorcycle TFs(Armada Sideways for example) that are 1/18 as well, but there's not much in terms of larger vehicles.

I can't really recommend keeping 25th anniversary/ROC and other hasbro figures from that period in package. Most of the transparent bands they've used for packaging have dried-up by now. The bad part is when the bands go over painted areas; they will leech away the paint as they dry up. Speaking from experience >>5259946

>>
>>5266549

Nah, no reuse, it's just how they're making stuff these days.
>>
>>5266549
The Star Wars 1/18 line right now is explicitly being marketed for kids and is not having 'collector-quality' effort put into it.
Black Series 1/12 is what they want collectors to spend on.

Which is ridiculous, but it's less for me to be tempted by in the long run, so I'm ok with it.
>>
>>5266549
>>5266577
It's just Hasbro been ultra Jew, still there is Black series in 1/18, the last waves of 1/12 are pretty crappy too.

>>
>>5267299
Yeah, most toys today are extremely stable.
You really have to be living in an armpit and/or storing them in a sweat box for them to decompose like that so fast.

The fact that most toys are shipped in metal ovens and stored in non-AC warehouses for months before they're able to be purchased is a testament toward their durability and longevity.
Years at a time in an armpit though? Even stainless steel will degrade fast like that.
