I just picked up DOTM Skyhammer this weekend, and he's pretty neat.
Not gonna lie, I still have some fond memories of the first movie as well as the toyline. It's what got me into Transformers again after losing interest when Energon happened

How is this even a question? The movielines where some of the high points of this franchise. Fuck.
Wreckage, Stockade, Concept Camaro Bumblebee, Landmine, Skystalker, Sidearm Sideswipe, Recon Ironhide, Lockdown, Brawn, Mindwipe, Battle Blades Bumblebee, Sentinel Prime, scorn; all great toys. Plus plenty of other neat figures. Putting aside any nostalgic connection to characters, the first few lines where way better than Combiner Wars or Titans Return shaped up to be.

Yeah. Since most of them had no bayverse model they had to replicate, they were free to make it less mech-y and it resulted in some very nice hybrid figures, Lockdown as a prime example.
The problem are not angry scrap piles, the problem is that the angry scrap piles tend to favor the same lack of color. Whrn they are brightly colored scrap piles they look cool.
Every time a new line hits people complain about the "plastic quality". Every time there is an uproar about the "plastic quality" it never amounts to anything. We never see masses of broken toys outside of a few odd occurrences like CW G2 Silverbot's fist hinges.There has yet to be a modern TF toy line were the "plastic quality" amounts to anything more than weird fanboys being weird fanboys.

Well what do you know; Bruticus actually looks really good with his arms and legs switched. Honestly I think he looks better like this now the upper body is entirely bulky and the lower body is slender. He looked a bit odd with broad shoulders connecting to skinny arms and skinny thighs with huge shins.
Now I want Ruination even more since he actually used this configuration in the show.

Movie 2 really took the movie designs and went crazy with it, make no mistake, these are the movie toys for the movie fans
The Legends series for Movie 2, some of the fucking best pocket size named characters to have ever come out. Optimus Prime and Jetfire vs Devastator has never been more fun, and Wheelie is a diamond in the rough
Compared but compared to the Scout class of Movie 2, these are unique and characterful toys and are some of the fucking best to have ever been made. A toaster, a microscope, a prop plane, Skystalker and Scattershot. Half of all the released toys are repaints, so you have options on mold.
Movie 3 things got a little cheap and it showed, but some of the best stuff came in the Legion and Commander line, something that melded the Legends and Scout
I'm still seeing how I feel about the Movie 4 toys.

Move toys had a lot of cool figures, and I say that as somebody who hates most of the designs. Generally the non-movie characters have more low key, traditional designs, and you can safely avoid the fugly mainline bots. The biggest flaw with the lines are that you get some truly, truly hideous headsculpts, and a lot of the toe toys can be unreasonably fiddly (I have a Deluxe Ironhide who is a fucking nightmare to transform)

Transformers is a franchise that had had a multitude of continuities, stories, and aesthetics in the over two decades before the first live action movie came out. It is no's less divergent and out there than the likes of Beast Wars.

It's not a good time. Labor prices aside, they've just moved their operations to Vietnam, that's almost like starting anew with the technical expertise. You've already seen how much defects there were throughout the CW line, mostly caused by poor mold tooling tolerances.

Barricade's had a lucky and unlucky life. Disappeared in the first movie, dropped from the second, buggered in somewhere at the third, was flashbacked at the fourth and now officially returning in the fifth.
Best part was 3/4 times he was in the main toyline, and had his own Human Alliance, which ironically, he was the only Transformer to be released without a human ally.

I feel bad for Transformers movie fans. I don't look down on them but I know they are TF fans in their own right and just want the movies to treat the source material and characters with respect but I see a lot of grasping and desperate attempts to make sense of the movies.
I remember all the debates back in 2007 about what Barricade was supposed to be saying to Bumblebee during their first fight. Everyone was trying to debate if he was saying words during the fight but it turned out it was just gibberish.
I wish the movies fucking gave a shit about the characters, the lore and the Decepticons as individual characters.

They tried that with the comics but Bay and Ehren lost fucks to give when Bay was more interested in getting funded for his Marky Mark and the Funky Rock movie, as well as his Benghazi film, both got a 50% mixed reception in RT.
They seem to be *trying* in this fifth one, with the new writers, early billboard ads, even the seeming lack of romantic subplots based on the current human cast.
I'd like to think of movie fans as ones who enjoy the aesthetic of the scrapmetalformers but the movies are incohesive in story-telling and fans simply wish that there's a better movie to go with the designs Nizzi and Hasbro puts out.

As much as the Bay movies have rubbed me the wrong way I always hope the next one will be better.
And as someone who hated the first three Age of Extinction wasn't entirely terrible. At least we got a lot of Transformer screen time.
I hope you're right though. I want to see the scifi aspect taken more seriously and the TF characters on all sides of the conflict get some love.
I want to see the lore explored more too which is what they tried to do in the second one with the Matrix but man that went over normies heads hardcore with the concept of "robot heaven" just not gelling with them. I thought that part was fine.
