So if I wanted a definitive Voyager sized Prime figure what should I get? The Classics mold's arm kibble and alt mode kill it for me, the only one that's passable is the WFC Prime and that's too damn small.
>>
>>5783779

Theres a Voyager sized KO of MP-10. Assuming it isn't shit (it's brand new, so no real reviews yet), it would be definitive just by virtue of being a scaled down MP.

Every time a new line hits people complain about the "plastic quality". Every time there is an uproar about the "plastic quality" it never amounts to anything. We never see masses of broken toys outside of a few odd occurrences like CW G2 Silverbot's fist hinges. There has yet to be a modern TF toy line were the "plastic quality" amounts to anything more than weird fanboys being weird fanboys.
When is this nonsense going to end?

I think the plastics in the main lines feel fine. Only plastic that feels a bit cheaper than the rest is the red plastic of CW Ironhide and Blades. It might just be how that type of plastic feels though? Something about it feels....Off. Compared to the other CW stuff.

Assuming you are not after any Bay, Animated or TF:P aesthetic ones, then your only other voyager is CW beefcake OP.
>>
>>5783782
Voyager sized MP-10 sounds interesting but I'm not sure how I feel about it being a KO.
>>5783799
What about 3P options? Anything good there or has no one seriously attempted a decent Voyager sized Prime?
>>
>>5783802
>What about 3P options? Anything good there or has no one seriously attempted a decent Voyager sized Prime?
There's Fans Toys Orion based on the IDW design but it looks pretty bad and the truck mode suffers for the robot mode's chest gimmick.

Most third parties are about the MP scale now.
>>
>>5783802

There are some 3P's but they're usually MP sized. Theres so many official Optimus' (Optimi?) floating around 3P's usually don't bother with him as much as you'd think, they usually go after side characters or shit we'll never see again officially (gun Megatron, MP Literally Who's, etc).

Some KO's have been fantastic too apparently, so I'd say definitely look into this KO Voyager MP10. Reviews should start popping up within the month I'd think.
>>
>>5783779
If you dig WFC Prime, then maybe Beasthunter Prime, they share some design cues, hes big and chunky, also cheap AF.
>>
>>5783805
From what I'm seeing the matrix chest gimmick makes it's chest too wide. Not a fan of the over-blockiness of it.
>>5783806
Damn, that sucks. I guess I'll wait for reviews to start coming out and hope the quality is decent
>>5783807
I never liked the edgy sharp corners design of him. And his torso is way too thin compared to his gigantic shoulders and arms
>>
>>5783802
Maybe RiD Firetruck Prime, he's voyager-ish without the armor.

And if you're open to Bay, Animated and TFP they have good voyagers under them >>5783807

I'm hoping the KO MP10 will be good

As for original designs from 3P we have a few, Orion is a really popular one, pairs with his mate Hegemon (but I'm not a big fan of Hegemon honestly). People talk crap on Orion but I'm a big fan of him.

Planet X is making a WFC one which looks really dope, so if Wf/FoC is your thing they're a trusted company for the most part.

There's also Battle Sentinel from Maketoys, its got a smaller figure that power armours into a big version of Laser Optimus. It's pretty old now though, and a lot of people get put off by the whole parts forming thing, but power armour is a taste that a lot of people have for 80s super robot anime so if that's your thing its worth a look.

Other than that, most of the others I can think of are all MP Scale, and besides that most 3P toys in general are of more "literally who" characters that are less likely to get official treatment unlike Optimus and Bumblebee etc.
>>
>>5783820
oh and one more, another company is making an add-on kit for beefimus to make him more standard looking, and it stays on forever once you attach, no taking it off to transform

The Legends class tank is about the only proper modern toy based on it, although the G2 Hero version is almost on par with modern toys anyway. That Classics/Universe deluxe isn't even remotely close in design to G2 Megatron, I don't count it. CW isn't the same, either.

Really I only want a straight update to the damn thing- take the original toy and articulate it. Don't change the details, don't add Bayformers greebles, just add articulation. Kill the sound gimmick if necessary but don't fucking alter it more than the articulation.
>>
>>5783853
not really, his original toy is still pretty much the best.

There was a repaint of Bludgeon and that one from Classics, but Blodgeon mold only really works for Blodgeon and the Classics one had a shitty spinning hand gimmick.

It's not out yet, but Maketoys has pic related coming out soon. Iirc it's about the size of CW Prime but absurdly posable. Ab crunch, double knees, the whole shebang. Kinda looks like Classics OP with a Brave/Super Robot aesthetic. Alt-mode is pretty bad, but I don't mind it.

There will also be some sort of add-on released for it to make him Powermaster, no good pictures of that yet though.

Maketoys has a really good track record so you wouldn't have to worry about qc, but they are known for fiddly/complex transformations so keep that in mind.

Are you sure you're not thinking of the regular voyager Optimus? That other anon was talking about Beast Hunters Optimus, who's a chunky beefcake from head to toe, and he'd be my recommendation too. Wish the Hasbro version had gone with trans blue plastic instead of green though, like the Takara version.
>>
>>5783916
That's a shame. I wonder why 3rd parties haven't done 5mm weapon packs? It'd be a nice way for us to get some generic guns for toys that don't have any or whose official weapons are lacking.
>>
>>5783806
"Toys of Optimus." It's a proper noun so it shouldn't be pluralized- however if you were to pluralize it, being an English word I'd say "Optimuses" would be more correct, but the classic Latin plural would be "Optimi." "Optimus'" with the apostrophe means "belonging to Optimus," it is not a way to pluralize it.
>>
A couple threads ago people were talking about a WWII Transformers toyline (which would basically be everything I could ever want). They said Megatron should be a tank, but how could you possibly want that over a Megatron that turns into Luger pistol?

Also I'm not super big on the Decepticons=Axis thing (Autobots=Allies makes sense though) so I wouldn't mind seeing Decepticons disguising themselves as "good guy" vehicles. I needs me a squadron of Seeker Mustangs (or if they have to be Axis, some Messerschmitts would suffice).

The US version has sticky paint on the doors. They will turn brown from handling. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Japanese version (TF United or Henkei) didn't have that problem. Never did get a straight answer on whether Hasbro bothered to fix that on Bluestreak or Smokescreen.

I for one prefer tank Megatron. Also, he already turns into a (modified) Walther P38, so if he were gonna be a gun he wouldn't even need to change his altmode to fit in with the theme. Plus, the King Tiger is just cool. Alternatively he could be an SS command half-track.

I do agree that Mustang Seekers (and "allied" Deceps in general) would be neat, perhaps with Ramjet, Thrust and Dirge being Vought Corsairs. Though I reckon Panzerknacker Stukas would be cool too, mainly because they had sod-off huge anti-tank guns under their wings that could form their arm-cannons.

>They said Megatron should be a tank, but how could you possibly want that over a Megatron that turns into Luger pistol?

Because, realistically speaking, a tank is far more feasible than a gun in every conceivable way?

They have more mass from which to get a humanoid robot from, they don't need to be painted in ridiculous day-glow colors to be sellable, and there are so many different models from all sides that you could actually pick one that works best as a Megatron rather than try to shoehorn him into an alt mode that you'd be hard-pressed to get any decent figure out of, let alone one that's supposed to be Megatron, for no other reason than "MUH GEEWUN".

Seriously, guns suck for making Transformers. You either have to resort to shell-forming bullshit like Classics Megs, fiddly and over-complicated bullshit like every third-party attempt at a gun Megatron, or you have to settle for a shitty looking robot mode like the Masterpiece.

I never implied there was anything creative about knocking off. I only said it was a phase every developing country goes through.

It's not about the character that's important, it's the interpretation. It's exactly the same as jazz standards. Go listen to John Coltrane's original recording of My Favorite Things, then go listen to the version on Live at the Village Vanguard Again!. Both are the same original source song but they sound ridiculously different. And they're from the same damn artist too.

Hasbro's getting what they used to do to others, I see no problem here.

I have the Roadbuster version. He's one of my favorites of all time. He's chunky and has a ton of cool gimmicks. The biggest problem is that he's not got thigh swivels and stuff, so he feels super retro. Other than that though he's perfect.

Wish he had some guns though. Though I did accidentally end up with one with an 3P add-on kit that had a rifle and a different head when a seller didn't know what they had.

>Oh my god, you're one of those assholes shitting on FT Perceptor fir being too "heroic" and ruined forever because his shoulders are a millimeter too wide, aren't you?

No, because that would require me to :
1.) Know that thing even existed before you brought it up
2.) Give a shit about Perceptor

Neither of those was the case, though I'm almost tempted to start shitting on it now simply because of how assmad you seem to be about it.

>So because you're unpleasable, we've got to throw out an entire category of alternate modes?

An entire category of alt modes that, in over thirty years, has only really be used by ONE character, in ONE incarnation, that has long since been replaced by something far more practical and feasible? An entire category of alt modes that, despite thirty years of advancements in design and engineering, nobody has been able to make a workable Transformer out of without the robot sucking, the alt mode sucking, or the transformation itself sucking in a way that severely detracts from the product?

Yes, clearly the problem is that I am "unpleasable", and not the fact that realistic guns are ridiculously difficult to get any decent figure out of, to the point of being more trouble than it's worth. Yup.

While he's TFP styled, considering the Classics line has ranged from Classics Mirage, to Universe Hound, to Generations Springer, to everything in between, I don't think he looks that off in a collection. He has his faceplate and not the silly baby face he had most of the time on the show. He has a great, clever transformation, a very ice amount of articulation, and overall is a really cool figure that doesn't get enough love.

Starscream was designed like a straight G1 update, Megatron felt more like a Unicron trilogy style figure with his anime proportions, Jetfire was done in a really bulky comic book style, and Mirage was hyper stylized. Hell, people where so amazed with Mirage's articulation back then they took to calling him an honorary Revoltech(which was also impressive back then)

>We're talking a hypothetical dream toyline here, he has a hypothetical perfect gun transformation in my dreams.

Good for you, but hypothetical scenarios don't mean jack shit if you have to disregard how things would actually work in the scenario to the point that it's basically completely detached from reality. That's just pure fantasy, and if you're going that far you may as well say he's also going to be made completely of cheese and feature lights and sounds that are powered, not by batteries, but by hopes and dreams.

> him having such gravitas that he forces his underlings to use him- it shows how much dominance he has over them when he can turn himself completely to their mercy and still control them.

I'm sorry, but that reasoning will never stop sounding utterly retarded to me. If you're the leader of an army built entirely upon deceit, betrayal, and the ideals of "survival of the fittest" and "might makes right", the last thing you would EVER do is place yourself at the mercy of anyone else, because that would require trust, which completely flies in the face of what your army is built upon. When your troops are a bunch of evil, scheming, backstabbing assholes, some of whom openly express their desire to kill or overthrow you at the first chance they're given, you would have to be a complete moron to EVER give them that chance, and if you do and they don't take advantage of it, it has nothing to do with how much control you have over them and everything to do with them being even more retarded than you are.

That, or you're all being written for an 80's cartoon for five year olds, who generally don't think much about shit like that.
>>
>>5784232
Not him, but myself I dislike Megatron as a gun because he's the leader of he Decepticons. Him having to be held by an underling to be useful in alt mode is kinda dumb. A tank just makes more sense. Shockwave I'm cool with being a gun (though I still prefer him as a vehicle, like an artillery piece or a satellite) but Megatron? The dude needs to be capable of doing shit on his own without having to be held by Starscream.
>>
>>5784242
Megatron was most likely chosen because he looked cool and had a evil kinda look, and being made into a giant kids cartoon they needed something to push his faction, modern day megatron SHOULD be a tank, or least a cannon, but for a mp its gotta be p38 or a mp g2 megatron (which doesn't work since all mp's are based on animation models with retools being retoolings of said animation model toys).

Shockwave I prefer to think of as a cannon in g1 due to a lack of size shifting even though his old toy was a space gun.

Thankfully the g1 show much like cartoons didn't need full on accuracy or any kinda realism, infact megatron did fine without transforming and when he did was kinda shoe horned in just to remind people he does transform.

I was wondering why this seemed familiar.

But this has nothing to do with transformer toys, inferno, it only relates to how the water accessory looks like cum which is as repeatable as inferno is a fire truck and 911 had fire trucks in it.

Therefore it isn't funny, strange as fuck but I'm some dude surrounded by a sea of plastic crack, I have other priorities.

Now someone post some arcee pics for my head cannon, anything will cleanse the palette

Also SixShot and Galvatron.

Nevertheless, when a real designer at Takara says it's impossible, not some senior executive designtologist associate at Hasbro, hoplophobe or consumerist manchild that isn't happy with the majority of Megatron toys being non-guns (abloobloobloo I want all the toys my way mommy abloobloobloo), says so, then I'll consider the practicality and not a second before.

I'm just saying I don't get where all of the butthurt comes from. They make every single non-G1 Megatron a tank, a car, a truck, or some non-descript future/space blob. But when anybody says, hey, what about a gun like the original, they flip their shit.

But then the biggest problem with this fandom is that it's internalized that "the only constant is change" bullshit. The same people crying about Megatron as a gun are the same people crying that another truck Optimus is boring or that Bumblebee shouldn't be yellow anymore or it's OK for everybody to be a headmaster/ or combiner or triplechanger or not. Everything has to change for the sake of change or they fly into a rage. And most of these shit-stirrers aren't even buying the toys; they're posting "oy vey $15 for a deluxe?! if I splurge on such luxury I'll have to eat unsalted dirt for the rest of my life!!"

Kinda funny we're having this issue, when the only reason Megatron and Optimus's toys were choses was because they where the biggest toys they could bring over in ealy 1984. had they waited a few months more, they would've made Jetfire and Shockwave leaders. Which would be another can of worms entirely(an Optimus that could never look like his G1 version, and a Megatron that would be a gun, but a space gun). Still, They would've made much cooler leaders, imo.

>discussion on why realistic gun modes don't work well for Transformers
>cites Shockwave, a space laser gun whose entire transformation is "bends over and holds arms over head".

As for Browning, fine. TWO characters in thirty years. Boy, did you ever show me. My point has been completely refuted by the addition of a Japan-only figure that been revised in any way since 1988.

Also:
>cartoon and all the comics
>The Megatron that turns into a gun still looks like the Megatron that turns into a gun still looks like the Megatron that turns into a gun

So, basically, in response to my main point that realistic guns suck for making transforming robot figures, the best you can come back with is nitpicking over shit that is irrelevant to the main point, followed by a whole lot of strawmanning.

Gee, I sure do feel proven wrong by all these things you said that do absolutely nothing to prove me wrong.

At this point I might as well make my own. Fireburst Optimus Prime would need very little paintwork to make a good Nemesis, what with his satanic fiery deco. Energon Landmine is another option but that would require a new head, more disassembly/painting and the figure is more expensive to begin with. Nigger what. You mean the character that actually represents what Magnus looks like under his armor?
>>
Sometimes in these threads I see an anon with some kind of mechanical looking, grey floor/backdrop.

What is that?

Line that goes full anime with Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus where the smallest body is XMaster and largest is a semi truck, two trailers, and an A-10 when?
>>
>>5784736
Which is funny because in Geewun Ultra Magnus was explicitly not a White Prime.

It's always funny to see them demand toy accuracy, then turn around and declare Takara for cartoon accuracy. The gnashing of teeth over MP Soundwave's yellow eyes was brilliant.

>So what if I paid 300 for the same set that you can get for 1/3rd of the price? Mine has ACCURATE red eyes and I didn't want the tapes anyway so mine is cheaper.

yeah man, they're pretty rad and make a solid generic background, Vangelus and a few other reviewers use them, so if you watch their videos you can get a good idea of what they're like.

Also fyi they come in pieces, so if you want a sizable play area you need to buy a couple, but there are different ones too, so you can get some variety.

They can be expensive on the aftermarket since they're so popular though

search ebay for Mechanical Chain Base and get an idea.

I know you can also buy some blown up dioramas of G1 cartoon backgrounds like Teletran as well, not sure where to buy them from though.

>Why does Hasblow never make Ultra Magnus that power armours from a smaller white Optimus figure!!!

Joke's on you, I never wanted a power-armoured Ultra Magnus. And even if I did, there's the Classics figure with FP's set for that.

>fucking IDW ruining Magnus with this bullshit power armour crap, stupid figure ruins this toy even though it can be tossed out with no effect!!!

>can be tossed out with no effect!!!

What, aside from the gaping hole beneath Magnus' head?

>genwunner logic

Kek, I hate GEEWUNners m88. Personally I'm probably going with the Animated figure with a new head, as it's better engineered, has better plastic and looks better in general.

Here's the thing. "Power armour" Magnus just doesn't work, at least with HasTak level engineering. You have to have a fully-functional white Optimus Prime figure that can be armoured up into a fully functional Ultra Magnus, said armour being required to also transform into a car transporter trailer, which even with Ultra Magnus' weird sci-fi trailer that looks nothing like a real car carrier, is not easy.

Let's list off the G1 Magnus attempts shall we?

>G1 Ultra Magnus. Used "power armour" feature. Was great for its time but useless for anything other than vintage display.
>FP City Commander set. OK robot mode but limited articulation, tonnes of partsforming and a vehicle mode that doesn't look a whole lot like Ultra Magnus.
>Citizen Stack. Has a fairly faithful vehicle mode and somewhat over-greebled but still recognizable robot mode, but due to engineering constraints has no inner robot.
>MP UM. Same as Citizen Stack except far more on the model. Still no inner robot.
>Iron Factory City Commander. Same as MP/Stack except really small.
>CW UM. Vehicle and Robot modes are more IDW than G1 but still fairly on-model. Instead of an actual inner robot they have Minimus Ambus, who looks nothing like UM's inner robot form unless you read Sad Gay Robots, and can't even stay in the cab in robot mode
>>
>>5784781
[continued]

So yeah. The inner robot gimmick just doesn't work. If it did, the MP would have had it. I wouldn't even mind Minimus Ambus if it weren't for the fact he can't stay in the cab in vehicle mode (and the fact that without him, Magnus' head is floating).

And that's not even touching on the weak and thin plastic, the overall hollowness, the lack of ankle tilts (which are a necessity at this size) and his inability to even hold his own weapons.
>>
>>5784724
Magnus was never a character under armor until Dreamwave's abortion comic.
>>
>>5784771
Energon Decepticons and Cybertron were great.

>when the only reason Megatron and Optimus's toys were choses was because they where the biggest toys they could bring over in ealy 1984
Got a citation on that? '84 Soundwave is bigger than Megatron, and it looks like he was one of the early ideas for Decepticon leader, as the symbol matches his face.
>>
>>5784204
agreed, hell a lot of the toys from the Movie lines that aren't of actual onscreen characters tend to fit into CHUG collections pretty easily

>>5784302
heck Jetfire actually was the leader over in several parts of Europe before they got the G1 cartoon

If you ask the owner of SirToys, he'll get you best prices on the chain bases which can be hard to find outside of ebay. You'll need to buy a few though to make the shipping worth it.

ReproLabels / ToyHax has the teletraan and etc printed backgrounds and floors.

There's a knock off MP-10 Prime at Voyager scale, Maketoy's Cross dimension thingy, and Planet X FOC Prime on the third party front. Plus the Voyager Prime Kits for CW Prime that may or may not ever come out.

There's more, but everything else is either MP scaled or Legends scaled.

Anyone else think the Legend to Deluxe scale is the best for just fooling around with figures? I do like the occasional bigger one, but these seemed the best sized to just fool around with.

Probably doesn't hurt that theres so many good Legends figures.

Except he is literally his inner robot.

Next you'll be saying Hasbro's Bruticus is more G1 because Bruticus has a silver chest.

Toy wise yeah, i prefer toy accuracy than toon accuracy, spent more time with the toys then the show.
>>
>>5784787
It's totally possible to do a inner and outer magnus, the reason why we haven't seen it yet it is cost and no one with enough engineering cojones has tried it.
