Were you around during DOTM? Because many fans were unhappy and quite dumbfounded by Hasbro's design choices transitioning from ROTF to DOTM.
All the figures were given chunky gimmick weapons seemingly at the expense of the main figures, which were smaller and lighter than their previous versions. End result was that DOTM was unpopular and later waves (the one with deluxe Soundwave) was cancelled.
Then in AoE, Hasbro separated the gimmicks from the mainline toys though that wasn't any better...

Not gonna lie, I prefered the DotM line because of the Mechtech weapons ability to be held by any figure. Not to forget the cyberverse line and their c-clip and 3mm bars and holes, which did the same as the Mechtech weapons on a smaller scale.

That was my haul on Saturday, Galvatron turned out nicely sans the faceplate issue. My Skullsmasher however suffered from loose hips (fixed with Future) and a loose right knee which I'm not 100% sure how to fix.

Defensor is also pretty good, but Bruticus is more solid since they fixed the QC issue all the Hotspot's had with his screw holes plastic tubing making the right Defensor leg not lock in super secure like the left did.
I'd honestly recommend all of the CW combiners, they're all at least B+ tier except Menasor, who needs that PE kit to look good.

Pretty much ALL of the major canons that had Scorponok having a major role, have him as big as Optimus Prime/Megatron/Shockwave. So why waste money on a brand new unique Titan mold when they can make a Voyager one that can be repainted (Black Zarack/Movie Scorponok) and sold much cheaper?
Make the Titan Wars figure be a convention exclusive figure and sell to retail a scaled down Voyager version. Bonus points, they can also produce a scaled down version of For Max too to sell as a two-pack of the two as a nod to their (rarely recognized in canon) rivalry?

Scorponok killed Fort Max's Nebulon headmaster in the comic and pretty much moved onto making Optimus his #1 mortal enemy and more so, Prime and Scorponok always had the superior banter in G1 in terms of the grudging respect angle, whereas Megatron was nothing more than a cheap shitlord to Prime in G1 (though IDW basically ripped off the Scorp/Prime dynamic for the basis of their post-MTMTE/RiD canon dynamic between Prime and Megatron, while reducing Scorponok to an edge-lord mass murderer too extreme even for the Decepticons)

Let's face it: unless you are part of the first three waves of Transformer toys NO ONE gives a fuck about you. Especially when it comes to characters that exist solely because Hasbro didn't re-release older characters with new toys in the 80s.
Scorponok, like Thunderwing and Bludgeon, might as well be generic killing machines for what casuals (IE people who make up the line's main audience). Or generic mindless tools that are used and not even treated as living sentient things (Ratbat and Scorponok again).

In the voyager class though, Galvatron and Alpha Trion both have no remolds/repaints, and the upcoming voyager megs and prime are unlikely to get repaints (or maybe one of them will) I just don't see them going the extra mile for a character they were already planning on making for 2018.

Marvel went the route of time travel to have Megatron and Galvatron co-existing. IDW has them outright be separate people.
The whole thing was more or less Simon Furman's idea. Furman's TF books were selling like shit and he has outright told IDW he would NEVER use Unicron/Galvatron/etc in his IDW TF comics because he was pissy that fans were calling him a one trick pony who only pushed his favorites/recycled Unicron as the only story he was willing to tell.
Sales were in the shitter, IDW wanted popular characters in the comics to lure in readers, so a compromise was made where Furman would be made to bring Galvatron/Cyclonus/Scourge into the comics but on the condition, that they are now full-on unique characters and not Unicron upgraded versions of Megatron/Skywarp/Thundercracker.
IIRC their debut was around the time Furman also started the god-awful "Dead Universe" shit, which was his idea of saving the franchise before he was kicked to the curb in favor of OC Don't Steal Drift and All Hail Megatron.

Actually time travel. Furman did a huge three year arc in the UK comics where Galvatron goes back in time to 1986 and fucks around before being killed off by way of being sucked into a time storm caused by Cyclonus and Scourge being sent back in time without the safeguards Galvatron took to safely time travel (mainly, by trapping Skids in a hell dimension outside time and space).
When Furman took over the US TF comic, he brought into the book a parallel universe version of Galvatron that didn't betray Unicron and helped him destroy Cybertron and in return, was allowed to conquer Earth and basically killed all of the Autobots.
