Eh, they grow on you, once you have them in hand, just like blackarachnia. I like them, their armors/beastmodes are a bit busy, but not that far of TR, in my headcanon they look different because they were the first trying to get an organic altmode.

No. I want Takara to update my favorite character because I know they wont remove articulation or repaint other toys that look nothing like the character and pass it off as an """update""" when it's really just cost cutting.

That's the strangest part. If Takara is going to put in all this extra effort for new toolings anyways, then why not use them? I can understand not using head swaps or minor recolors, but these guys share only two molds and Takara has no straight repaints. It's just so strange and doesn't seem like a smart business move.

I'm not an out of businessman though, so I'm probably missing something. You'd think Hasbro would learn after the Prime Breakdown debacle.
>>
>>5744675

I still find it weird that Hasbro finally decides to do actual hands and feet attachments, but they fuck ti all up and do it on an exclusive box set, instead of either doing it right from the beginning, or swapping all the CW stuff over to molded hands/feet and selling upgrade packs fro the previous combiners that have the feet/hands in proper colors.
>>
>>5744675
>>5744682
Hasbro has a fixed pricing system, while Takara doesnt. This is a big part of why their products are so different
>>
>>5744682
How is this brain surgery to you? Hasbro gave the figures changeable poeces in case children wanted multiple pieces, or built for customibility. So things weren't set in stone and you wouldn't be stuck with just hand pieces if you wanted something, or 3 feet and one hand. And a hand that transforms into a foot is better for individual packaging as opposed to just a hand.

The boxed sets get exclusive hands because they're complete sets. Also, it's an additiomal incentive to buy them.
>>
>>5744700
Why not include that hands and feet with voyagers? That would guarantee kids would have a complete set regardless and it would be matching as well.

Then again they probably wanted to avoid having combiner kibble lying around and didn't want voyagers with extremities dangling off of them. There's just no simple solution outside of making it for collectors which ain't happening.
>>
>>5744703

Didn't Hasbro recently say that because the market share for collectors is growing that they want more collector focused pieces?

nb4 all that means is actually releasing some MP's here in the US.
>>
>>5744705
Except they aren't releasing more MPs here in the US, they said we're only getting 2 this year same as most years. So wtf are they talking about? Are we getting a TF:Black series or some shit?

Star wars line catering to "collectors" but with pretty poor QC efforts in terms of paint, we got the 6inch action figures, the older smaller ones and the diecast helmets/vehicles

Our black series basically is the generations toys ie titan masters and combiner wars when you think about it

Compare them with the marvel legends line and star wars black series and that is what they are, at a distance recognizable but up close its just a toy catering to our nostalgia in an effort to hide QC, while the animated line is coming close they're far more simpler in many ways.

I buy all 4 mentioned lines as well as takara versions where possible, hasbro knows we're cheap asses who just want more shit unlike takara who know we're paying a little bit more for something better, even import cost

Figmas and revoltechs cater to japanese autism, wide range of possibility and accessories, but they cost shitloads more.

Our "premium" figures focus on likeness mostly but feature rougher paint apps in many cases and their joints are better hidden at the cost of poseability.

To me neca is at the top of the food chain in likeness but the cost is a bit much (and their paint apps looks hand done so its up to their OC variations to accept some of the more humanoid figures), but hasbro figures dumb down their figures to the max with sloppier paint apps (clearly a machine that's the equivalent of a makeup shotgun ala simpsons) less articulation and accessories, but they're far cheaper to buy and still classed as "collectors".

Sometimes they look good but far from perfect
>>
>>5744748
Kinda, black series standarized alternative hands and heads (at least most have them), the accesory quantity isn't as much as figma standards but they try to include the important stuff (like bb8 included with Rey), some have really nice pant apps and good articulation, but there are also stinkers, still really good for its retail price.
>>
>>5744778

Ah, thanks for explaining. More familiar with Japanese figures. Would love to see the US try and compete with it, but all I ever end up seeing is shit that should've just been a statue. Lot of Japanese shit proves you can have good sculpts and ridiculous articulation, yet no US business seems to have grasped that yet.

I suppose hasbro and others are also aware people may lack imagination, as a result the joints are better hidden, why make an arm have an exposed ball joint if it's just gonna stand there?

These guys in pic related look badass but can't do much pose wise, near statue shit, they won me over the S.H figurarts versions though and thankfully I lacked the creativity and funds to bother looking for those guys.

>>5744797
To be honest I think the black series and so forth are aimed at kids, young kids thinking they're hardcore collectors just because they got this shitty toy line that's over crowding on local shelves.

Judging from mandarake's preowned stuff the japanese must also be envious of our toys at times, still makes me cringe funko pops end up on amiami listings

The engineering, not the designs. Lessons learned making them inspired ideas used in MP toys.
>>
>>5745309
Yeah, I get that, but my point was that the MP line has always been heavy on complex engineering. Sure, you can learn from Animated and RotF's engineering and apply that to MP designs, but saying they inspired the line implies it wasn't intricate to begin with.
>>
>>5745207
All in all? $78 Canadian. He was about 50% off in HLJ last week so I just had to get him. I just checked and now he's back to his regular price so that might suck for anybody who was late to the party.
>>
>>5745307
If you can't see how the mainlines since 07 have influenced every other aspect of TF engineering, you must really not be paying attention. MP-01 is downright simple compared to what Hasui did with the MP line.

For fucks sake, Hasui started designing things like Armada Starscream, and now he does things like MP Wheeljack and Prowl.
>>
>>5745318
No, I mean the designer for the later MPs literally learned from working on Animated and the Movies line. The MPs before where mostly handled by the designer for things like Alternators and RiD sideburn.
>>

Probably because age doesn't make a shit movie series suck any less. And it's come up again because now at least 3 more cancerous sequels are planned, plus spin-off's from this horrible shitshow of terrible storytelling mixed with ParkinsonsCam (tm Mikey Bay) and some of the ugliest TF designs ever seen.

G1 movie is good soft sci-fi wrapped in an animated music video. The G1 cartoon was made on pennies and managed to get some of the best performances out of some of the best voice actors to ever live.

The Bay movies have infinite budgets and give us some of the worst camerawork and action choreography in any film ever made, while having absolutely no redeeming qualities to fall back on.

This ignorant Bay apolegism has to stop. It's like people defending Call of Duty by saying that all games are bad.

Everything I initially thought "Ooh, that looks kinda cool, that'll make a good toy" turned out to be shite. Lockdown and Galvatron were the worst offenders for me.

I don't know if I dare hope for any decent movie toys or not. Oy.

You wanna make money hand over fist? Make hard plastic tires for figures people love that have rubber tires. When tires rot people want replacements, and no one has any because no one makes them. Start with replacement tires for the RID 2001 Optimus Prime (fire convoy) and Ultra Magnus. I'll buy a set for each from you right now, those tires rotted off uears ago. I'll buy an MP ultra magnus set from you, and an MP Prime set from you. I want plastic back ups for when the stock rubber ones eventually die. MAKE FUCKING TIRE UPGRADES/REPLACEMENTS!!!!

>G1 movie is good soft sci-fi wrapped in an animated music video.
Anon there were better version of that shit way before the TF film and they had a lot more substances than "kill the old toy line offer the new!" I mean fuck sakes that was the film start to finish, in the fist half hour they kill the old toys and the forty minutes after that (rest of the film) was just introducing new toys. No substances, no depth to the sci-fi, the "music videos" were more or less the standard plug and play formula of the time. Hell the 86 was as artistically sold out as the 07 film.

>The G1 cartoon was made on pennies

>Toei Animation
>AKOM Production
>made on pennies
I just can't describe in words how stupid you are.

>managed to get some of the best performances out of some of the best voice actors to ever live
That was thanks to Wally Burr a very expensive hard as nails director that was attributed (true or not) as one of the reasons VA recording sessions were reduced because he was just a monster at constant retakes and screenings. Most memorable voice acting cartoons from the 80s are thanks to him and was nothing special to TF at the time.

What’s note worth is the deco on the sword is much more extensive than the SDCC version, matching the original Japanese G1 Fortress Maximus’ sword very closely. Could this be our first peek at the TakaraTomy Legends Master Sword included with their release? Or is this something decoed specifically by Hasbro Asia for this release? Only time will tell.

This is bullshit, the sdcc is losing ground

glad its only 100 of the fuckers.

So lets see, lets recap what each fort max gives us.

>TR
g1 American cartoon accurate cerebros, cheaper in general
>SDCC
Slightly better colors, retooled cerebros to match headmasters anime design, comes with sword
>Legends
Headmasters accuracy, presumed retooling of the SDCC, sword a possibility

You can buy a 3p sword to complete the hasbro TR version or be one of the first 100 in hong kong to get a freebie (but it'll cost more), right now for me its cheaper to get the SDCC.

But if people are patient the legends MIGHT be the cheapest option after shipping if he ends up the same as unite warriors devastator

I think it's good that a version of a toy isn't exclusive to one convention in one country ever.

The idea of a regional releases of an exclusive is much better than entire singular worldwide exclusive in my opinion.

Bit of a shame, I kinda like the purple

Kinda reminds me of the scrapped Spark Pilot thing for Tigerhawk and TMII Megatron

Such a crap figure.

The fact that the Legends mold doesn't even have a chest cannon means the deluxe blows it out of the water.

The legends mold makes a good small scale megatron, though.
>>
>>5746685
Why couldn't the cannon connection be on a rotating shell around the upper arm? Then you could have the cannon be on the front or the side while keeping the double elbow and beefing up the upper arms.

Oh who am I kidding, this is the same company that released Betatron and gave two of six Constructicons shit arms for "Stability."
>>
>>5746704
>same company
Except takara "fixed" those 2 constructicons, while galvatron has the same arm connection on both

It's 2016. Why are we still doing Transformers which are based on things from the 80s?

So far takara's is closest to g1 accurate.

None homage the toy, well there is one but its kinda oc.

Cheers grand galvatron

This is so close to exactly what I want out of Generations Galvatron
3P upgrade gods hear my prayer;
New head, cannon, and cannon mount pls pls plsss

>the hasbro head is the laziest thing they could of done

Not true. The absolute laziest thing is if they just used the same head as another figure in the wave that looks nothing like Megatron as a little robot, and even less like Galvatron because, fuck it, most of the face is going to be covered by that crown/faceplate nonsense anyway.

Then again, I'm banking on some third-party making their own versions and add-ons anyway, so whatever.
>>
>>5746765
Well, also maybe some beefy mcbeeferson doom shoulders that can stay clipped through transformations.
>>
>>5746704
>Why couldn't the cannon connection be on a rotating shell around the upper arm?

Not even that. Just mold the arm to have multiple connection points and maybe have the base of the cannon be designed to move/rotate in whatever way allows it to sit higher or lower on the arm.

I asked about the jap Wingblade Optimus Prime in this thread a bit ago. I got it, and goddamn, what a beautiful figure. They don't engineer them like this anymore.

In my opinion the face works for galvatron and the head seems to be a universal fit, so far only blurr's head differs>>5746528
>>5746530 and that's about it.

The limitation is they made the heads so they can all fold and sit into cockpits, if they made the galvatron face do that on its own it may hinder itself from this arbitrary function.

Otherwise they could of avoided the need for spring loaded crowns and over reaching helmets, its all because they wanted the little head dudes somewhere to sit when transformed

Oh and the little galvatron head dude does look like megatron, infact takara's repainted it (or rather, painted it at all) specifically for that purpose

>the face works for galvatron
>Oh and the little galvatron head dude does look like megatron,

I know he does. The point was he was lazily done because, at least in part, he is almost completely unpainted. MY point was that it would be even lazier if he didn't look like Megatron or Galvatron at all, and was just a straight recolor of another headmaster in the line.
