Hey, so I finally bought a pack of Dioder lights for my Detolf, and I was wondering if there is any recommended way to set it up. I was thinking of doing something like putting one light per layer kind of like pic related.

I was also wondering then where the best placement might be, towards the front or the back, etc.

Thanks

That also depends on what you put in there.

I use two strips per shelf. You'd have to buy two dioder sets per detolf shelf.

I tie them down and can angle them slightly.
>>
>>5734135
I don't have mine lit, seems like either an inconvenience or a huge waste of electricity, unless you had it so the lights are only on when the room lights are on or something.
>>
>>5734149
>I tie them down
can we see a picture where we can see the lights more
>>
>>5734149
Yeah, I was thinking I'd have to get another, but I don't really want to just yet at least.

>>5734166
Yeah, I only plan to leave mine on for a little while each day or so

>>5734173
Also interested

I just set up the top 2 shelves. I'm basically looping each light seperately to the connector piece, none of them connect to each other, and using the sticky paper to connect them to the back end of each shelf.

I'm liking how it looks so far though...although I feel like having the light only in the back is looking kind of weird? Maybe I should move it to the front.

you might consider something like https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-31200-TimerMax-Grounded-1-Outlet/dp/B0020ML744 I've been looking for something the opposite of https://www.amazon.com/Woods-59407-Indoor-Sensor-Control/dp/B003Z3U7JS but that doesn't seem to be available. Might try getting one and reversing it, i dont imagine that would be too complicated.

That's pretty awesome actually, thanks

I used the garbage wires that came with the dioder. Tie them tight but not too thick or the glass will be lifted up by the wire.

Do people ever come over and talk about this stuff? I see some of the collections on here, and while I'm not interested in these types of figures, I can only imagine the responses I would get from family and my peers.
Good on you if you don't have any issues, I'm just curious.
>>
>>5734770
What issues? You mean typical sterotypes associated with collecting X?

Who the fuck are you to pass judgment on what I collect? - Now thats what I would say. Not at you, anon.

I personally think its the same as collecting an exploding closet of clothes, or collecting trains, or even collecting antique cars, etc.
>>
>>5734314
It puts the detolf lights in the basket...
>>
>>5734770

My aunt likes them and asked if I had any star wars stuff because my cousin collects star wars.

Everyone else either takes brief interest in them/notices a character they like, or just ignores them. My mom thought my monsterarts godzilla was hilarious for some reason.

Tldr, if you're otherwise normal nobody gives a fuck if you have a bunch of plastic robots and anime girls.

I haven't had anyone give me shit about my toys since junior high.

Should I? Currently using a standard three self bookcase and it's extremely crowded, been having to leave new stuff in packages or it's like a puzzle to fit it somewhere.

Not that anon but I used those lighting too . It's very efficient ,use very little power , cut them to almost whatever length and you can get timers and remotes. I also have those setup on the living room for low lighting and stairs.
Can't give you pics either , quick Google will give you more than enough .
Also it the light is not hot or warm to the touch so you don't have to worry about heat damaging your toys .

I use ropelights. A lot of people dont like it, but I get substantially more light output than dioders.
>>
>>5736041
what timers and such do you use?

>>5736031
looks good, i've used those strip lights for a school project, did you use something like https://www.amazon.com/Leegoal-Connector-Adapter-Single-Welding/dp/B00GTGLCXI/ref=pd_sim_60_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=51DmDl2ulbL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=KE6SCJEX48E4XZ357J53 or did you just leave them as a connected strip?
>>
>>5736006

That looks pretty nice, though the frames on the doors might obstruct a lot of display space.

The bottom being a cabinet is cool too, you can stuff spare fig boxes down there. The lower shelves are kinda shitty for display anyways.
>>
>>5736145
The timer was just a normal outlet one , it's was setup so my stairs will always be lighted at night . I didn't use it on the display area .

>>
>>5736175
>might obstruct a lot of display space
It will but I can definitely trust it to hold a lot more then the all glass detolf
>you can stuff spare fig boxes down there
I store my boxes in large shipping boxes in mass with around 10-20 boxes in a shipping box, Maybe just use it to store figures, sure they won't be on display 24/7 but it's better then having to repackage them, maybe store extra parts down there as well, could setup a rack with part bags on it
>>

somewhat related to the thread, what are those transparent risers you have on your shelf? Where do I get some?

i believe they're cheaper on amazon, as long as you're okay with getting a set of 3 (a large, medium, and small)

Ok.
Where I love people aren't exactly open minded to these types of hobbies. The more feminine collections would take a considerable amount of flak. I know my setup will get a few conversations out of my family, but they don't even know how much I really own; seeing as I don't have most of it displayed.
>>
fella who's not from the US here but almost moving: how much's a detolf? I'll probably be picking it up three of them for my collection and wanted to know how much to save up
>>
>>5736588
...Why don't you just look at Ikea's website?
>>
>>5736666
Cause I didn't know what Ikea was till now!

We don't have those here :)
>>
>>5734300
Do you have front shot of the figures in the case? It looks really nice.
>>
>>5734770

I don't have any fancy shelving, just book shelves, but I show people my shit. They never give a fuck. It's a waste of time for me to bother doing that.
>>
>>5737417
I thought you were just stupid/lazy, but now slightly moe.
>>
Dioder also has a set of disc lights that IMO look better than those strip lights. They're less conspicuous too - the lights should be an accent, those strips are too distracting to me.

>>5737721

Do you have a link? I'm interested.

unfortunately no.
due to my shitty room setup and pic related, theres no room in front of the cabinet that is far away enough to take a good picture.
>inb4 clusterfuck
>>
>>5737957
>clusterfuck

I can see 5 models

there is no way it is a clusterfuck

btw good taste
>>
What are some of you guys using to raise your detolfs? I've been wanting to raise the three that I have to make better use of the lowest shelf.
>>
>>5736044
love the floating shelves. Really nice room in general. Not a fan of the lights though.
>>
>>5736044
The room looks maximum comfy and the display isn't a clusterfuck. Good job.

But man, those lights are so shitty. Why didn't you just get some Dioders from Ikea? They're cheap as hell and actually look nice. The lights you have make it look like a carnival attraction or something.

Also, that lone brown Detolf among the black ones is triggering my OCD hard.
>>
>>5737957
how is 1 doll per shelf a clusterfuck?

you seem needy
>>

>>
>>5736044
I don't like the reflections of the lights. They're so bright. Would a more diffused light help? ... Wrapping them in wax paper? Well maybe not those flexible ropelights unless they're held tightly to the metal supports.

Placing them on another shelf so they're higher is a good idea though.
>>
>>5736031
If those are high powered strips, don't put them too close to your toys. About that much is probably fine, but I've had a few toys bleached by the heat given off by those things after being left near them for half a year.
>>
More than lights, since the obvious choice is some set of LEDs or LED DIY of some sort, how are you guys raising your Detolfs?

Used to be that the Lack shelving units at Ikea were more than enough to withstand the weight of a detolf, but they've retired that line quite a long while ago.

Also curious about how to raise it, and do you guys bolt the detolf to the wall?
