did you think twice about it?
>>
>>5696784

Yeah, but not if it's a toy that retailed for way less than $100.
>>
I can't even remember the last time I spent under 100 on a toy. I'm not sure it's ever happened.
>>
>>5696793
No.
>>
>>5696795
So how long should i wait for this toy to be under 100 again?
>>
>>5696784
I have X and he's definitely not worth $100. Would like to get the Truforce version though.

I have and will probably do it again. That toy in your pic though definitely not worth it. I got it at retail and still feel I paid too much. That being said I'm probably still going to shell out 150 for the armor version because I have lost control of my life.
>>
>>5696924
I forsee a lot of ben10 style toys being made. maybe we'll get a classics line alongside it
>>
You could literally have just scrolled through the board and seems tons of discussions about toys that cost hundreds of dollars OP
>>
Honestly, at this point I'd rather spend money on a few $100+ figures than a stream of cheaper, smaller ones. When you're in the game so long finding ways to care for the mass of smaller figures you accumulate, and big/pricier figures tend to get more care and attention.

Buying toys that where cheaper and are only 100+ from the secondary market, however, is a crap shoot. No matter what there's always a twinge of regret for not getting it earlier, and by their nature they rarely feel worth the $100.
>>
>>5696784
All the time. I got tired of being a cheap faggot and skipping shit I wanted because the prices were slowly dropping then goes from $30 to $120 overnight so I hesitate to jump on it and the next time I check its $200+.

Like I remember when I was a newbie and I thought $150 for SDCC SS Goku was too much money for a figure and I passed on it. Boy, was that a mistake.

Me too, anon and it was totally worthy. Among other things, Metal Builds are not even the worst thing as price. Iron-Man armors of Hot Toys are absurdly out of control.

The real question you are looking for is:

> Would you ever buy something from a scalper?

And personally, no, never have.

I can see where this might go, collage students trying to scrap by without the help of wealthy parents (and realistically wouldn't that help go towards education fee's/alcohol/hip clothing?) vs adults who have more financial freedom?

I have multiple times, sometimes like pic related in the stupidest of ways, whats odd is the cheapest of the trio here wasn't $100 off the bat if it weren't for shipping (thanks fucking ebay global shipping program) and the only one of the 3 I got new was also the most expensive.

I do avoid scammers and scalpers, but there are some purchases that have the late buyer tax applied but that's usually minimal.

Most expensive one which was also the most regrettable was my 3a drio lost planet 2 mecha and that's still in the box as the size was far larger than expected, but what boggles my mind was my generations metroplex, 2ft tall for less than $100.

Kids toys are more appealing than some high end shit at times, I honestly say buy what you like provided it doesn't hurt you, and don't be afraid to go for something smaller if it hits that sweet spot.

I spent $75 on a Shinki and that's actually considered not too bad compared to other like the Fencer sisters and Murm. Also bought a p-bandai MG that came out to about $85 after shipping and middleman fees. Haven't cracked three digits yet though.

I've gone close a few times, but haven't passed the $100 mark yet unless you count Lego sets. There were a few Lego sets I have that were about $100 to $120 MSRP. Usually I buy a bunch of stuff that's cheaper, but it all adds up to about the same as several high quality, expensive figures/toys.

Most if not all metal build prices goes up after release . So it's never a bad idea to buy them because if you want to get it later , you'll be paying much more . Just the most recent red frame striker option set is now 3x the retail price.

Sure, of course. I collect Hot Toys so it's a regular thing. Plus I'm in Canada so I'm always paying more on account of the exchange rate.

I wonder which /toy/ soldier has the most expensive toy? I've spent $600 CDN in one go before. I'm sure people here can top that.

Pic unrelated.
>>
Normally I wouldn't but the thread pic reminded me of when I got the D-arts Zero Type 2 for 40 bucks. For like 3 years before it was going for 120 dollars +, but it miraculously went to a much lower price so I bought him. You never know, the price on something might just drop.
>>
>>5698434
Anyone in the BJD threads, but they're practically a peninsula of /toy/
>>
>>5698450
I think you're thinking of the other zero which is over 100 dollars.
>>
I have yet to find a toy that I thought was worth that much. Also I'm a poorfag
>>
>>5698450
It wasn't miraculous anon, there was a re-release so its value went down
>>
>>5698450
That wasn't a miraculous drop. They reissued him and the price dropped when he was available once again at standard retail prices. Same thing happened with X. Which is how I got both of them.
>>
Several times. Masterpiece Transformers, X-Plus, coupla PAKs, a third party TF...luckily, I've never crossed into that 200+ territory. Trying to stay away from 1/6.

>>
No I don't. There reason is that if I would I'd have to take my collection very serious. I would care too much if stuff got damaged or waste too much time keeping everything dust free.
>>
I only ever want 1 version of a character, and that one version has to be the best that's available (in my opinion). That almost always means dropping more than a hundred on a toy. I usually like it when it doesn't, though. It's always nice getting a good value for my money. On the other hand, that sometimes just means there are no good figures (Brave series, why?).

But anyway, yeah. Quality over quantity for me.

Seeing as my country fucks you over royally when they target your imports I would and have spent more than 100€ on figures/plamo over the years.

Pic related set me back 110€, more than half being tax and administrative fees
>>
>>5703553
I feel similarly, but I also dislike ultra realism and need great articulation,so while technically Hot Toys is the best option for some things,I would rather have a smaller, articulated figure. I make some exceptions, though, like for Robocop.

I bought $260 worth of Yugioh cards the other day, does that count as a toy? One of them alone was like $50. A lot of them are admittedly ones I'm keeping in pristine condition to resell in a couple of years, but I just thought I'd use Yugioh to compare.

In terms of actual figures - I owned/own some very, very expensive ones. Medicom Sasuke, originally paid around $200 for him. Didn't think twice because I knew he was worth it being like double the size of your standard figure + limited. Sold him a little while ago though. I also own a prepainted GK of Doudanuki which I paid $215 for, which I did think twice about LEL. But I'm glad I got him. I also own a few Digimon GEM figures (Megahouse), 2 in particular were over $100 for their base price, and another $30 - 40 for shipping each.
.
However I don't collect figures in massive amounts and whatever I see like a lot of people seem to do. It's much more expensive for me, for starters. US citizens get cheaper deals (mostly speaking of preowned trades) because of shipping. SO I tend to stick to single expensive pieces and not give into every fucking character, especially not the cheap ones. My single Doudanuki figure could be 4 other brand new figures or even 6 - 8 preowned. Actually, with shipping he could easily be 5 brand new figures? But I don't want 5 figures of shit I just moderately like, I want one figure that dominates ALL of those combined.

Here's a pic of Doudanuki because I think he's the crown jewel of my small, but very personalized (and expensive) collection.
>>
