I wish Mr. MVP would post more often. His Sasara is the cutest.

Also, I have a quick question. I'm in search of a realistic looking yosd (Like, miadoll levels of realism, I guess. Just something that looks like a believeable toddler) but I haven't had much luck so far. It's just been a seemingly unending ocean been bug eyes and bobbleheads.
>>
What's up with the sudden wiggly eyebrow trend? I don't understand why they're on the rise, they look very awkward to me. It took me ages to find an artist who doesn't do caterpillar brows on every faceup.
>>
>>5675565
It's because they're going to hatch into beautiful butterflies. That's when the doll assumes the next evolution form - the thirsty, battered drag queen. Complete with glitter face-up and glittery snot and blood running down out of every hole.
>>
>>5675587
>miadoll
killin iiiitttt!!!!
>>
>>5675565
because BJD looks also change with fashion and skinny eyebrows are nowhere to be seen now days as they are deemed ugly and aging now. So now thicker eyebrows are in because they make faces look younger and more innocent. And no I'm not talking about drag queen eyebrows, but normal fuller eyebrows. Drag queen eyebrows are a whole different topic, as there is a fine line in between.

>>
Is your ass so fucking broke you can't just BUY a new body instead of yellowing a damn head?
>>
>>5675717

That looks fine though. Why wouldn't you just do that if the result looks fine?
>>
>>5675731
Looks fine because it's covered.
I know the body, I bet undressed it looks awkward as fuck, the head is way too big for the slim DIM shoulders.
>>
>>5675717
wtf. I would rather airbrush or blush the head. Peeps are CRAAAAYZAAAYY these days. Doll in Mind bodies are shit anyways, she should've just bought a new body.

ALSO have more smexy dollieeees. (prepare your vomit bags for this one)
>>
>>5675791

...Ok? I mean I know basically nothing about BJDs but that sounds completely irrelevant to the yellowing part lol
>>
>>5675640
I sometimes look where some of the dolls I painted ended up.

I once did a really cool and big commission for someone.
Person paid a shitton of money for it and we both got lots of praise, I was really proud of it and the base doll was great to work on.
They were forced to sell most of their dolls, that one went to one of these people.
They removed my whole work and made one of these shitty looking glitter-blood-piercing-yaoibois out of it, I'm still a bit mad about that.
>>
>>5675708
I'm talking about these. What the hell are these supposed to be? I'm confused on the purpose, what's the expression meant to be seen as?
>>
>>5675885
I think it's supposed to be like puppy dog eyes. Pleading or wondering, maybe?

Sorry, I can't find any non-cringe examples, but note how the middle of the eyebrow is lower than the edges.
>>
>>5675885
I see what you mean now anon, I honestly think this is mostly an aesthetic thing, depending on the person that makes the request. I hardly actually see them, but they just stand out too much because of how different they are. I'm sure faceup artists would be more than happy to not to them, they look annoying to make.

Also is this Culur once again copying someone else? I swear this girl should be giving Xhanthi half of the money she does for commissions considering she keeps stealing looks and aesthetics from her. Eyebrows, milk lips, highlights. The only difference is that culur is a dumpster at it, because she has no idea why or how it was done, she just copies shit.

this look is supposed to be a kind of sad, innocent, worried look for the eyebrows. but some people just started doing it without the appropriate amount of tilt and now they're just weird wiggly brows.

at least, thats what i intend when i do them anyway.
>>
>>5675918
Ah yes, these are a better example of what I mean. It almost looks as if someone just took a smudge tool in photo shop and messed with the brows and went "perfect, make it for me" and everyone just went along with it.

I figure if they're poseable figures with removable clothes it's a doll, so they can stay.

>>
>>5675717
Heads are like $100.
Bodies can be $400, and if you like a particular articulation for posing then ageing a head is a much better alternative. Why would you wanna fork out $400 when you can mod a part only worth $100? 5675812 - What this person said. Person probably likes bobble headed look but has nothing to do with yellowing.

>>5676285
How is that relevant? My dolls have tattoos and piercings and I don't. I think they're pretty but I can't commit to the ink and rainbow straw bleached hair look because I have an office job. Am I supposed to only buy dolls that look like me?

Are you retarded? That's a soom dia head, most go for $300 in doa with papers, $200 without. She probably already paid a ton for the damn head but couldn't buy a body? Because yellowing a head instead of buying a new body or blushing it, is so smart. Kudos for the waste.

Used bodies in the MP can go for as low as $200, what kind of moron only thinks with retail prices when talking about hybrids. But then again you also think all heads go for $100.

Everyone (meaning: the gaggle of people on Tumblr who have tastefully styled Resinsouls) seems to love the new Sophia body you're talking about but it just looks so emaciated and bad to me...it's not stylized enough to have the spooky DC look, it's not realistic enough to be otherwise visually pleasing, it just looks indecisive and weird as though they couldn't decide whether to go for realistic or stylized and didn't succeed in either.

Don't be obtuse, the difference is that Barbie has her own thread already and also the 1/12 Azones/ALs are Asian dolls which do have some overlap in their collectors and ABJD collectors (although i still think they might benefit from another thread just for being able to focus on 1/12 stuff.) Dia is not worth as much as she/he used to be. The market is saturated with the male equivalent of Fairyland Chloe. I actually saw a Dia WHOLE DOLL go on the DoA MP for $300. It would be less than $200 at this point. Soom dolls aren't moving much at all on the MP unless you're trying to sell the new Dia vampire elf MD. You would have been right two years ago, but nah. They aren't at all that hard to get hold of.

The soom shit isn't going down, the market place is just slow. Basically they bought the whole doll just for the head. Don't be a retard too anon. Also unless I'm blind I only see 3 dia heads for sale...yeah, saturated. Alright.
>>
>>5677301

It was a male Dia. He's been sold already, but it was up there last week. The MP GY is trash to sort through, but here ya go:

Soom shit is going down. They're going at or below retail, not to mention Soom has gone up on prices. I just bought a rerelease non-fantasy doll with a faceup for $800, which is pretty absurd, but there weren't any of that sculpt on the MP. Guess what? Now there are a few of them up there and it makes me grumpy. Oh well.
>>
>>5678937
You moron! The reason that doll is so cheap because it is unevenly yellowed, has horrible staining, cracking, and a terrible gore mod. Of course the price is dropped ridiculously. Try finding a Soom Dia in good condition before saying anything.
>>
>>5679050
Anon was clearly wrong about Dia prices but I feel like we've had enough posts going YOU RETARD DIAS ARE EXPENSIVE and it's irrelevant to the fact that heads /generally/ cost less than bodies, leading lazy people to want to yellow their head rather than buy a less yellow body (though the sensible option in the case of a slight mismatch is to either blush the head or the neck. Imo that's actually the sensible option almost any time you have a mismatched head and body, but I guess some people really want the whole thing to match and not just the neck/hands? Idk it's not like human bodies are the same color all the way thru...but I digress). Now can you let it go?

You know I've always wondered why bjd companies don't cash in on the furry crowd more often. How come there aren't many companies that make mature anthro dolls?
>>
>>5680621
Because how much money is worth dealing with furries?
>>
>>5680621
The medium doesn't have that much inherent appeal to furries is my guess -- a doll isn't soft and fluffy, for example. They'd rather buy or commission a plushie, or artwork. Whatever amt of furries would be interested in shelling out for a doll is small and appealing to them isn't worth the amt of effort of producing a large furry doll, beyond the few that have been done already (Iple and Soom have done one or two each I think, and there are quite a few MSD-sized mature anthro characters these days).

*Sweats nervously about being one of the furries working on dolls*

But in all seriousness, furries are fickle, there are high end commissioners, and then the compulsive buyers. Unlike some of the other hobbies I've been in, and as much as the poor young furries are a pretty common staple of the fandom, it's pretty stable towards being middle class/white collar and mostly they know what they want and make a way to afford it.

As for feasibility and dolls in specific, there are a few artists who make sculptures and art dolls, but dolls in general are seen as a niche thing with connotations more associated with girls, and being that the furry fandom is overwhelmingly male, there's a lot of toxic masculinity at play.

Bjds in general are an incredibly niche market, and as much as I feel like it's growing, any kind of niche artwork requires good word of mouth and aggressive networking/marketing to get your work out there.

So the big companies out there will hedge their bets with anthros that have a broader appeal in existing demographics, and it will be awhile before solid furry lines will be available.

So it's less an issue that furries don't want so much as furries don't know it's an option.

Not to my preference at all. I don't like mohair. I don't like the doll or the clothes either. But it does look a hell of a lot better than the other picture, which just looks ratty and wild. It looks nicer with a straight wig.

>>

8-9 inch wigs.

So how hard is it to come by a MSD sized centaur? I dug around the MP with no luck but I was using the search function rather than doing it page by page.

Unfortunately most centaur bjd in are limited edition si finding one second hand is time consuming and expensive. You probably be better off waiting for luts to release another or getting the new doll chateau one.

It only works for me if I'm on 4G. For some reason it and dollzones website will not load on WiFi for me at all. I have to order everything on my phone and it sucks ass.

it doesnt work for me no matter what browser im on, same goes for dollzone. whenever i was to see any of their stuff i have to go to a dealer's site, like denverdoll or something.

>>
>>5684541
I generally just look for the 1/3 size shoes on websites and make sure the insole measurement falls between 7.5-8.5 cm. Just be mindful of he style/materials. For example, a larger shoe that has laces would be good but I might think twice about buying some fancy sandals that are 8.5 cm if they don't have any adjustable straps/ties.

Out of morbid curiosity, what's everyone's age and how long have they been collecting? I have never been able to pin down the average age of the bjd community. It's expensive, which makes me lean towards more adult, but (and please don't take this the wrong way) the drama and the popular fashions make me think it's a lot younger.

I started collecting when I was 11 or 12. I saved up any money I got (lunch, birthday, chirstmas) for a year and ordered my first shitty doll. I got really into the hobby for a few years but now I'm back to only having my first doll since I sold the rest in favor other hobbies.
When I was mainly into the hobby (around 13 or 14) most people I knew were in their early 20s. I can't speak for the scene now but I imagine it's a similar age group, late teens and early 20s. I noticed YoSD collectors tended to be older though (40+)
>>
>>5685050
Started at 21 and am now 24.

I dunno if it counts for anything, but at least in my local community, 20s is by far the average age of collectors, though we do have 18 year olds and some 30 year olds.
>>
>>5685050
I started collecting bjds almost 2 years ago. I'm 23 now. I was never really into anything but barbies as a kid. I have always hated baby dolls; that's still a constant, I only own SD size, and don't find any appeal in yoSD's. I definitely agree with >>5685525 and have seen a lot of older people in the hobby with just small yoSD armies.

>>5685050
I started collecting not too long ago anon. I am in my mid 20s but have known about bjd since I was like 14...

I think to be honest bjd fashion and style is very evenly spread out. Some styles just stand out more than others because of how loud they can be, which is what causes people to mostly hate them. Super childish in my opinion but we all like what we like and deal with what we don't like differently.

The drama is the same, just some people being louder than others.

28, first saw bjd when I was like 20, didn't actually become interested in it until a few years ago and only bought my first doll last year and he's languishing as one of my many projects as I perpetually try to get my life in order.

I really love the amount of potential in this hobby though, like, although the bar for the majority of stuff is pretty low, there's a lot that can be done, everything from well developed characters to simply exploring different types of fashion without the commitment of having to wear said fashions yourself.

My local group seemed to be pretty even between the younger adult women and the older women.

Started collecting in June 2008, turn 25 next month.
Pic related, first BJD I ever saw.

From my own experience most collectors seem to be between 20-35.
However, since I started the newcomers tend to be younger and younger, I assume that's because there's been a change in spending habits and available funds.
In a world where a smartphone costs easily as much as a BJD and is often bought without even a second thought it's no surprise the same people can afford expensive dolls so early in their life (or get them from their parents).

Regarding the drama: believe me, it's the same in every fucking hobby.
No matter if it's mostly females, males, cheap or expensive, luxury or not.
Fuck, my mother was in a crafting (knitting, sewing) group and they had the same drama bullshit my father had with his train diorama group.
As soon as you have at least two options you will have people fight over what's the better one.
With BJDs you just get all the drama points combined: it's expensive, somewhat creative, at times limited and attracts weeaboos and crazies (first because of their look and origin, second because creative people tend to be 'different').
Combine that and you get a lot of reasons why people can bitch against each other.
>>
>>5685050
I got my first doll in 2011 and I am nineteen now. I had an interest for articulated dolls for a while but I never really know they were that popular. I always assumed it was a hobby kept by mostly older woman and kept it to myself, with my granny being the only person I could share it with. Finding out about BJDs was so amazing for me. It was like a whole new world. Seeing the work of so many talented people in the hobby gave me a bit more confidence to be open about it and do more with it. Like I didn't feel alone anymore and my interest in it wasn't so weird. (Sorry for my English!)

Well, how involved are you in it? How deep did you dig?
How often do you meet people/check forums/plattforms and so on?
The BJD hobby seems pretty tame too if I just work quietly at my desk and not meet other people.
How "totally not crazy" your experience with a hobby is highly depends on yourself.

Can't count how often I thought "oh, this seems nice, very normal, no drama" when entering a new hobby/only lurking a hobby, just because I didn't bother to dig deeper.
As soon as you do that you always find your crazies, hidden drama, people bitching over nothing and backstabbing.
Fuck, I still remember when I looked into the 501 (the Star Wars guys), if you think BJDs are bad look how some grown up men bitch at each other about who spent the most money on plastic armor.
>>
>>5686493
>Well, how involved are you in it? How deep did you dig?
I belong to two active clubs, teach morse code classes twice every week (and will be adding a third class in a few weeks), I'm the highest class of operator (extra), I attend regular hamfests (meetups) and meal get-togethers with local operators, and I do public service events in the summer and fall.

I check several forums, along with getting on the air, literally erryday.

What's up with this apparent pedo/nazi dude in the hobby? I keep seeing people arguing that we shouldn't let someone like that into the hobby, but then have people fight back with "Well he takes good pix so ya its ok"

It's mostly really cool old dudes, preppers, war vets, and "tech tinkerers" (like the people who are into building/computers). The younger generation of hams does seem to be more on the spectrum, plus there is such a dramatic increase in autism nowadays. Similar, 27 now and 17 when I started. I remember buying my DZ girl because she was at the time the cheapest SD on the market. Rather glad though, if I had waited I would have ended up with an AoD or first gen Bobobie and even though I've long sold off her body her face is still rather pretty (in a weird 80/90s anime way which I kinda dig). And same for older ladies. I'd take the local fashion doll club over the local bjd scene any day. We have like three or four groups for the city here, and they're all pretty drama-ridden and have either badly finished recasts, cute but generic Minifees (that might be recast?), or ~artsy~ DC and Dollstown with smudgy paint. The fashion club is all middle aged and older but their dolls are so varied and fun and they actually talk hobby and crafting instead of inane life shit.

hey beautiful people. I want to make a Doll Chateau Kevin hybrid (because I hate the DC adult bodies) but its neck is 7.5 cm. Where the fuck am I supposed to find a 1/3 body with a neck close to that size? Most 1/3 male dolls I could have a neck of 10 or 9.5 cm. Is it even possible to sand a 10 cm neck to 7.5cm? I don't think there is enough resin for that. And the DC head neck holes do not have enough resin to sand and make a bigger neck gape. I'm really stunned here and don't know what to do.
>>
>>5687488
A normal 1/3 might make it bobble headed anyway. But try looking at SMALLER 1/3 dolls. It's my understanding that Angell-Studio has some pretty petite dolls.
Or look for an abnormally large 1/4?
>>

So this general covers resin and vinyl ball jointed dolls for the most part, but dolls of a similar aesthstic are welcome as well. These dolls can be anywhere from 1/6 to 1/3 (and hey, even 1/2) scale, but we sometimes have 1/12 dolls here too when there's no general for them going on.

So these are pretty much really poseable dolls with a lot of customization potential, and also a pretty hefty price tag. You can find them in a wide variety of styles, and there are a lof of different brands as well. Does that help?

made a wig for my rainbow faced girl. first time working with viscose fiber, i definitely recommend it as a cheap alternative to alpaca or other animal fibers if you want to practice. i'm pretty happy with how it came out, aside from the shitty ends, i want to trim it shorter but i'm afraid of making it look choppy or blunt, so for now i'm leaving it as is.

bought the viscose fiber on etsy, very reasonably price and comes in a lot of crazy colors. fair warning though, i think it will work best for shorter wigs, as it kind of sticks to itself and at longer lengths gets tangled very easily.

Really, calling someone a cuckold in a hobby/thread that consists mostly of women (and animu waifu loving guys on the DD side that can barely talk to a living woman)?
You really need to work on your comebacks.

>>5688514
Ask yourself, is it really a lot less creepy and cringey to have a room full with animu titty statues or lose your shit over quality issues of a 10$ action figure?

They are basically like huge action figures you can completely customize, not more.
Sure you have your crazies, but you always have these.
I personally like to paint them and to take photos, because I suck at drawing and other people are not available 24/7 for pictures.
Regular toys are just too boring.

Yeah, how nice of him.
Not to mention that the question is pretty stupid, unless he asks it in every other thread here too. Why do people colled Transformers, Lego, Figmas etc.?
Probably because they like them.

thanks anon! random, but, do you think she would look better with bright pink eyes? the ones i have in her right now look too dark in photos/far away. or should i stick with purple but get a brighter shade?
>>
>>5688985
I personally would get her something more multi-colored (like some of the unique Enchanted eyes), but yes to something more bright anyway.
The eyes she has right now just look so weird with her face-up and hair.
Could also imagine light blue eyes in her, or golden.

im thinking the pupiless pink dandelion style eyes from makoeyes. i had those in the luts kid delf version. pic related. i would have kept the eyes but i need a much smaller size for a unoa compared to kid delf, so i sold them along with the doll.
>>
>>5688985
I think a colored, faintly sparkled eye (like you posted in >>5689079) would look great. I can see her in purple or blue eyes too. Those eyes are quit dark, but her faceup and hair are so striking that I didn't even notice at first.

Impldoll please, why couldn't you have just semi copied hooves from like soom or leeke and just improved the joint function? I've been hoping they would come out with hooves for while and then they just had to make them horrible looking.

as much as we all like to give culur shit for her bullshit, at least her handmade artist bjd doesnt look lumpy as shit.
>>
>>5689404
It's meh. Nothing impressive
>>
>>5689404
In my opinion that's nothing to be praised for.
Smoothness and properly finishing the doll is like the most basic bottom line your product should reach before it goes for sale.
Every cheap chinese BJD is sanded buttery smooth, despite being badly engineered and looking wonky as fuck.
Everyone can sand, the difficult part is to make a good looking doll that poses well, not one that simply doesn't look like a lumpy mess.

Her sculpting does look better though, it's still a pretty meh concept though (at least the body, I'm just sick of the trend).

im going to GET YOOuUUuUUuUu *peeks head round door while your in your bed*
>>
>>5689404
It's alright but the face is... I'm not sure how to explain it. I don't think it would look nice outside of an exaggerated cartoon style. There isn't a way to really change it since it's so stylized.
>>
>>5689404
I like the body but the face is awful, so badly done it ruins the whole doll. And as other anons said, is just meh.
>>
>>5688471
Cute.
...I have vague memories of posting a tan Luts Vega's photo on here ages ago (either that or another SDF), hoping for a sculpt id, and having everyone tell me it was a hideous doll, but imo the post-CP luts sculpts are still cute, just in a somewhat more generic way.

What you met is our hobby's equivalent of the obese single autistic man who has 6 Detolfs of waifu statues and faps while imagining being in a relationship with the characters. Its an unfortunately high visibility stereotype but it isn't by any means the majority.

Ok question, has anyone noticed that the pear trend is now bony ass hips, and more ribs than tit? I love me some pear shaped dolls but like, soft looking round not genetically deformed waifs and with at least a bit of curve up top too. This just ends up looking like softcore Doll Chateau.

If I remember correctly, those were first sold at a Dolpa booth that also sold ero outfits and accessories.
>>
>>5691161
Yes they sold a lot of crazy dildo-esque icecream cones and dolls with suggestive modified faces. I saved a bunch of those images. My favorite is the one of 3 dolls around a GIANT soft-serve icecream cone meant to look like a stripper pole. It's so hilarious. Bless you, Japan. I don't have them on my work comp otherwise I'd post 'em.

Oh no man I didn't make that, its a dress I bought somewhere for my big bust girl. I guess its actually way less obvious at this angle but I was posting it as an example of them not being able to share clothes, it actually is super baggy in the chest. If I get some actual clothes done tonight I'll post.
>>
>>5692645
Okay, looking forward to seeing it :)

How often do you guys plan for the future? Creating characters, planning outfits, wigs, and eyes and such. Do you have one doll you're working on and then move to the next or is it a constant process of planning and only getting parts done?
>>
>>5693144
In the beginning I had a strict "finish a doll before you get the next one" rule.
I would pick out the one I wanted and concentrate all my funds and time on it.
I would buy clothes, wigs, eyes and then pretty much call it "finished" as soon as the doll was presentable.

However, that was before I had real "plans", stories or whatever.
That was also before the whole "everything limited, all the time" business model many companies have nowadays and before I was so busy with work and commissions.

The last years I have been working on a big project and two smaller ones on the side.
I outlined the characters and how I wanted them to look like and started going from there.
Unfortunately sticking to the "finish a doll first before you get the next one" model doesn't work anymore.
It's often smarter to buy dolls at the right time, even if you still have unfinished ones at home.
That way you avoid second-hand prices, can wait for good offers or the perfect doll for a character and so on.
It's the same with their clothes/wigs/eyes.
I plan to finish this project, but instead of working on it in big brackets I do it from all directions, in small steps.

So I basically have one big plan for the future (finish a project), and all steps inbetween just happen when the time and funds are right.
I also constantly improve/upgrade my dolls, which means I'm never really done anyway.
It sucks sometimes, because I often just want a bunch of cool and totally finished dolls, but eh.
Hopefully at the end of next year I am finally, mostly, done.

For the anon's who like military girls, Sadol now released their Desert outfit in their female sizes too.

Still think the male one, with the Big Boss patch, looks like Kazuhira/Master Miller from MGS.
Forever salty they don't sell the Walkie Talkies on their own though.
>>
>>5693179
It's really tempting, but I wish it was in woodland colours, since I live surrounded by trees. I've been meaning to get started sewing to make my own doll-sized tacticool gear, actually, so maybe I'll eventually make my own dreams come true.
>>
>>5693173
That makes me feel significantly better. I never finished my first doll but I've gone off and started planning 4 others.
>>
>>5693232
I think it really depends.
Like said, most of mine are unfinished...in my eyes.
I have friends who tell me my dolls are very well finished, but just because mine aren't sock-dresses wearing messes does not mean I am done with them.
My expectations got a lot higher and my goals too, which means finishing a doll is incredibly harder now than it was when I started.
Add that I have a big group and there is only so much time/money I can spend in a month and it's normal I just can't finish a doll a few weeks after getting it.

If you have a shitton of cheap dolls that all look like a hot mess and you just keep on adding new ones, without really planning to finish the ones you already have and just because you like the thrill of owning as much dolls as possible, you should probably stop and take a step back.
If you have a group you constantly work on and add new members to because the time is right (due to limited releases, good offers or whatever) then that's okay, sometimes things don't work out in a straight way.
It's also normal to plan, it gives you a feeling of accomplishment without really having done something, and it doesn't cost a cent either.
For some putting together plans and concepts is half the fun.
