TRANSFORMERS 5 (Paramount Pictures)

DIRECTOR: Michael Bay, from the previous movies. This is going to be his last "Transformers" movie.

WRITERS: Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, from "Iron Man"; Ken Nolan, from "Black Hawk Down".

PLOT: Optimus Prime returns to Earth and assembles the Autobots to defend the human race from the Creators, the creators of the Transformers, who have nefarious plans for the Universe. Galvatron will also show up. This will launch a new version of the "Transformers" series that will include two more sequels, a "Bumblebee" spin-off and crossovers with properties like G.I. Joe and Micronauts to establish a Hasbro Cinematic Universe.

CAST:

>Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, an inventor and the Autobots' human ally. This might be Wahlberg's last movie in the franchise.

>Isabella Moer as Izabella, "a street-smart tomboy who grew up an orphan and was raised in foster care. She counts a small Transformer as her only friend until she meets Cada and embarks on an adventure". She is described as a lead and will probably be the pivotal character of the new movies.

>Peter Cullen voicing Optimus Prime.

>Frank Welker voicing Galvatron.

>Jerrod Carmichel in talks for a lead role.

>Stephen Merchant in talks for an undisclosed role.

>Jean Dujardin in talks for an undisclosed, villainous role.

>Bumblebee will be back.

>Hound, Drift and Crosshairs expected to come back.

>Apparently there'll be an underwater action scene in the sunken remains of a nuclear submarine.

RELEASE DATE: June 23, 2017.

He's getting a lot of comedic actors for this one. I mean the previous movie had high grade actors like Kelsey Grammer and Stanley Tucci who are legit as fuck.

Granted I do like Jerrod Carmichel, his show on NBC is one of the funniest newer sitcoms on right now, I just hope his character isn't a waste since Bay did waste some funny actors like Ken Jeong and Rainn Wilson in the past.

I'm sorry, but are you seriously saying that Hasbro, a company whose products are basically made in third-world sweatshops, are lacking integrity because they are making bad movies? That's your beef? Bullshit. Your only real complaint is they're making things you don't like, and those things somehow are turning out to be more successful and profitable than the things you do like. If it weren't for that, you wouldn't be saying a peep about "integrity" because that's not what this is really about.

They sold their cinematic soul to Paramount to get the first movie out there. No one believed Transformers could seriously be a blockbuster until Spielberg endorsed it.

Hasbro gets zilch from the film profits. Paramount owns the movie franchise and are the ones pulling shit after shit to make the crappiest movies they can until the end of time. Hasbro just gets all the licensing money.

Machine Wars Starscream and Pre-Earth Depth Charge were two of my favorite figures Botcon ever did. It probably has more to do with how awesome that mold is, but fuck if it didn't work gloriously for those two characters.
>>
>>5675204
That Depth Charge is the only Botcon figure I own, snagged him up at $10 a year or two ago, still not sure if I got a really good deal or if he's just not that in-demand. At any rate I already liked the mold as Terradive and the brighter colors make that shit pop.
>>
>>5675032
>No movie version of Rook
Goddamnit.
>>
>>5675203
I wonder if we'll ever get a series reboot that sticks closer to G1 and the characters and style?

I'd love a movie set in the 80's with less emphasis on advertising cars.

I don't wanna be a geewunner but imagine how neat that would look. Not necessarily one to one blocky cartoon robots but something similar to the comics so we can tell who's who and stuff.

I like how Marvel does it with their style of making the characters look like the characters and it works.
>>
>>5675206
I think it has to do with how readily available he was. I feel like they made a TON of that figure. I got him for 30 bucks the week after he was released.

Botcon MW Starscream was like 70 bucks though. Still worth it.
>>
>>5675209
Every new movie announcement pushes the hope for this back several more years.

>>5675210
I wish they'd been as prolific with Treadshot, he was one of the few AMs I had as a kid and I love the Warpath mold, just not enough to spend $40+ on it again in gray/black.
>>
>>5675209
Just a middle ground between all the designs would suffice. Like, voyager Seaspray is a movie figure, but I love its aesthetic. Make them all look about like that. Less spiky shifty metal and a smidge more blocky.
>>
>>5674945
I kind of want to melt that thing just to put it out of its apparent misery.
>>
>>5675209
Honestly, the actual robot designs are the least of my issues with the movies. Like, I can see why people don't like them but I think some of them (mainly the Decepticons) are pretty cool, especially the less humanoid ones like Rampage. Of course, the biggest problems are the puerile writing, flat characterization, too much focus on the humans and excessive commercial pandering. Like, the robots turning into cool cars that you can actually buy and all, but when the whole movie is just an advert for General Motors it's kinda stupid. And that's not even going into Age of Extinction's China pandering (which to be fair was still far less obnoxious than it was in The Martian).

That said, if we did get a rebooted film continuity, I'd like it if they made them a bit more "traditional". Not GEEWUN box-men of course, and still detailed/realistic, but a bit more blocky and cohesive- think the Cybertron aesthetic, or perhaps Maketoys' look. Perhaps they could have the Autobots look more "traditional" with Brave/Cybertron/Maketoys-esque designs, whilst the Decepticons have the uglier, more inhuman designs similar to the route they went in the actual movies.
>>
>>5675222
One of the things that bothers me about the movie designs is that they feel very American and industrial. I feel this is a western thing.

In Japan I feel like they use more stylish and artistic styles for giant robot designs. The Brave Series being an example.

Not that I think we need to ape Asian designs but less industrial and more heroic is cool. I think that's why drifts design in the last movie was my favorite. He's got the most personality to his look.

And to be treated like a real scifi movie instead of popcorn summer flick would be cool too.
>>
I just want war for cybertron's story to continue, will they ever consider getting high moon back on board or has platinum's efforts sealed the deal?

I liked wfc's toys too

I'd be okay with keeping the shifting metal junkyard motif for the in-between spots of the robots, like the elbows/knees/neck in between more traditional blocky bits. I think that could help bridge the gap between the godawfulness we have now and the 'too goofy' g1 designs that execs don't seem to want to go near.
>>
>>5675107
I wasn't aware you could make such an inaccurate analysis based on my comment yet here we are.

I discovered this thing I drew ages ago that you guys might like. It's a pencil sketch of a female Seeker archetype. Sorry about the smudges, this was a straight scan with no post-processing.

It turned out alright I guess. She's a little messy here and there but overall I think I did OK. I designed her with a MiG-29 in mind as an alt mode (I've always thought it would be cool if the Seekers turned into Russian jets).

Okay.

Not terrible, could be an interesting character if fleshed out a bit even.
Russian accent, shitty flyer but soaks up damage, most comfortable when strafing ground targets while least comfortable when engaging other aircraft. Can't think of a good Russian-sounding TF name though. Try cleaning her up and outlining/coloring.

The funny thing about Generations Springer is that you can still find him at MSRP or at least close to around it, Hasbro really wanted to fuck with Fansproject and their Warbot Defender.

Also, gimmicks up the ass.

Thanks. And yeah, it is a pretty old drawing, I'm surprised it came out as non-awful as it did to be honest. If I were better with GIMP I'd digitally retouch/outline/colour her- I might still have a shot at it. I'm no drawfag but I do have some good ideas now and again.
>>
>>5675255
Why does she have a belly button?

Considering that RID pulled from Prime for the returning characters, the movies for Drift (including his color scheme being the original design for movie drift) and Grimlock, G1 for sideswipe, it's pretty possible they borrowed the colorscheme considering fixit never transforms, is largely there for moral support, has big eyebrows, and is smaller than everyone else.

The warrior class toys are quite samey. They feature similar amount of articulation/accessories/paint etc. so it's a matter of whether you like the designs. The only glaring issues are Grimlock's exploding elbows and Sideswipe's chest/shoulders unable to lock into place.

Legion toys are great for their size as usual but they have no accessories this time round...

One Deployer class toy that stands out is Crazybolt. It's transformation gives it enough joints to be more than a gimmick-brick.

The last four TF movies have a hardly coherent continuity and each almost exists within a vacuum of one another.
They are a mess.
>>
>>5675734

Idk though I honestly think that looks worse than the regular movie design.

I guess I think movie Optimus and Bumblebee are perfectly fine designs, and like it's pretty much everyone else where it the aesthetic breaks down.

Too many bots have no saturated colors on them so you just get this mess of panels and details with no shapes and blocks of color that stick out, and their silhouettes aren't super well-differentiated either.

But I think you could make a set of bots that would read as basically the same aesthetic/style as the movie bots if you just tried to keep along the lines of Optimus and Bumblebee where all the grey mechanical detaily shit is broken up by bright colors in distinctive shapes, and you also made sure everyone had silhouettes that read pretty differently with like a lot of different body types and certain people having like maybe some obvious altmode kibble sticking up on their backs and things like that. Basically how they help keep character designs straight in stuff like the comics where there's always a detail you can look at and go "oh that's red alert" or whatever even when a character undergoes a design change

Optimus is just one of those cases where the idea intersects because Optimus' movie concept isn't that different. But Nizzi Megatron looks to be closer to the movie designs with the alt-mode, with just hints of g1 Megatron like the helmet shape and the fusion canon. While the other line will simply be more detailed versions of g1 characters with their g1 alt-modes.

I agree that's the main issue with the way they are perceived by most.
Even the decepticons have good silhouettes but since they are not characters and are painted gray nobody can tell them apart. Even worse, most decepticons take on the form of military vehicles which are not exactly bright-colored or easy to tell apart.

Because comic books are currently in an era where no one can truly be good or evil. Everything has to be a morass of grey or fobiles.

It happens, it's not exclusive to TF comics. Just like how in the 90's every character was an edgelord because that was the style of the time.
>>
>>5676558
>>5676563
Actually, it's because the writer is an unimaginative britbong who bastardized that backward isle's retarded fanfiiction because he was too tired to create another ohseedonutsteel after Tyrest and Pharma.
>>
>>5676575
>>5676573

I just wish it wasn't so silly. There's only three personalities between every character and they all talk the same.
>>
>>5676558
The writer for MTMTE is a fan fiction writer from the early 90s days of TF fandom. And the guy had a hard-on hatred for Star Sabre and wrote him, in his fanfic, as a villainous holier than now asshole who thought he was better than everyone else.
>>
>>5676584

>>
>>5676584
God that sickens me. And I can tell there's so much bias reading it.

The gay stuff was weird at first but hey, they're robots, it's not like their slobbering all over each other and fucking with greasy organic genitals and practically everyones masculine on Cybertron so prison gay rules.

But everyone has the same personality too. Everyone talks the same. Characters will kill in one issue, then be forgiven, then kill again, then be forgiven, then be killed themselves but oh wait robots so he's back.

Whirl is annoyingly randumb. And I say this as someone who likes him.

Megatron is the most fun character to read but he's written so out of character. I mean, I used to do fanfic type shit like that too but it still comes off weird sometimes.

But fuck me, I keep reading it because Cybertronian slice of life is my jam. I used to play with my Transformers like that as a kid, just chilling and talking and doing SCIENCE and shit with fights every now and then.
>>
>>5676579

Thats how it is in every comic these days. It's doubly bad because they're also hamfistedly trying to combine it with "progressive" ideas and doing nothing but alienating people because the people who want to see everything "progressive" don't buy comics in the first place.
>>
MTMTE jumped the shark when Rewind starting calling Chromedome Domey.
>>
>>5676597
>Megatron is the most fun character to read but he's written so out of character.

Not the first time in TF history he's had a change of heart. And because it's comics, he'll probably return to status quo at some point.

>then be killed themselves but oh wait robots so he's back

They're generally inconsistent with what kills a TF. Generally, full on head destruction will do it, and spark killing. So, brain and heart, to keep it simple for people. But sometimes blowing the head off doesn't do shit because it just doesn't, and thats the most inconsistent part usually. TF always has been really dodgy on what kills one though throughout all the series, so it's not like this is a sudden thing.

Part of why I wish they'd just drop the whole spark/head shit, as it makes asspulls less ass-pulley because people can accept "lol we rebuilt the robot" easier than "somehow this robot survived it's head being asploded and heart ripped out".
>>
>>5676608
Characters have given each other retarded nicknames in the comics before. Not familiar with the old Marvel run are you.

Scorponok is definitely coming back. Come season 3, these guys will be stuck in stasis while he gets out and gets stuff done. Though, from their screen time, Saberhorn looked by far the most impressive, though Scorponok felt like he was the top Con there while he was around.
