Anyone having any experience with the pieces of the Knight's Kingdom figures?
I'm curious about how the visors attach to the heads, if they work with any other pieces and also what connection points the shin and shoulder armor pieces have.
>>
>>5653128
The 2006 helmets all have an axle hole at the tip on the back, so you can attach those ones to other stuff through that. Otherwise the main connection literally only works with the Knight's Kingdom heads.

The shin pieces in 2005 and shoulder pieces in 2005 and 2006 attach via peg, but the shin pieces in 2006 attach like a lego brick.
>>
>>5653145
Alright, thanks!
Definitely going to CrackLink some of the speckled armor pieces then. Shame about the helmets, though.
>>
>>5653091
I get what they're trying to do with the beast jaws and the uppercutting-your-face-off trigger, but it hardly seems worth the drawbacks. Hopefully there'll be some good way to mod the head so the jaw opens and closes normally.
Ekimu looks pretty glorious under bright lighting.
>>
I can't help but wonder what the sets for next year will be like. In particular, What will become of the Toa and Creatures? Will the creatures fuck off back to their elemental regions to repair this year's damage? Will the stay with the Toa, and be upgraded alongside them? Or will the two possibly merge together? Although I would think that would violate the "United, but not One" tagline. For that matter, if the creatures disappear, what will next year's small sets be, if the pattern of six toa and six small sets continues? Thoughts, anyone?
>>
>>5653187
>Hopefully there'll be some good way to mod the head so the jaw opens and closes normally.
I'd rather have the jaws permanently closed than permanently open, and I'm wondering if you could flip the jaw for a faux-"closed" look.

You make a good point, though. Some articulation would be nice.

I started work on this design more or less the day the beasts were first shown at toy-fair and it was obvious their jaws couldnt move. This mostly just works for lava beast due to how the horns mask the ugly sticking out part, and I cant be SURE it will work because I dont have the actual set, but this looks plausible and can be made with fairly easy to get pieces. (all but two of the required pieces can be found in Ikir and there is a way to reconfigure this to use only pieces from Ikir (though doing so lacks the double joint for the jaw I have here which is done because I highly doubt the jaw will line up in a close position on its own.)

If there is some obvious reason this wont work, let me know.

>>
>>5653425
The armor looks too flat. It wouldn't be too late to fix that as you just need some padding under it.
>>
Is there any way to make Ketar's unity-piece not wobbly as fuck?
>>
So /biog/, what are the sets you've regret buying the most?

Mine are pretty much all the Av-toran/Agori sets.
>>
>>5653574
Toa Phantoka/Mistika

bizarre designs + super simplified build * fragile joints /2 Toa being redundant due to vehicle sets = FUCK.
>>
>>5652695
An example of the gimmick eating the set. I'd really like to see some arm and leg fixes...and a General jaw mod.

>>5651464
Ekimu looks great, but the redundant second gearbox confuses me.
Lava Beast just seems...very plain. like...he had the least thought put into him and was just sorta shoe-horned.

let's see how Quake Beast manages to fuck up and if the second Umarak set is worth keeping on its own, or if it should be combined with the first Umarak to make a perfect set, much like Kulta and LoSS
>>
>>5653583
I like to see the waist gearbox as just a waist swivel - another point of articulation - more than a gearbox. After all, it's pretty damn tight.
>>
>>5653574
Ehlek and Hahli Mahri
I sometimes look at my Skull Squad in disappointment but at least Scorpio has a cool function and doesn't CRUMBLE INTO DUST
>>
>>5653587
True. maybe I'll just build Ekimu's waist with a smaller bar so there's no gear to get in the way.

as for the fixes...more gold armor, more Clear Blue bones...

and I'm flip-flopping on whether or not to keep the torso shell it comes with, or use a Chima Gold torso with a Blue Zamor. I saw it done on tumblr and it looked damned good.
>>
>>5653589
Hahli Mahri was cool as fuck though. The only issue were her fragile joints.
>>
Are the beasts worse than Hordika/Visorak?
>>
>>5653574
Tarakava, but not because of the set itself. Like ten years ago I found a store that had older sets: Jaller & Gukko, Nui-Jaga, a bunch of collectible packs, 2004 canisters (which I already had), and the Tarakava.

Years later, they still sold Tarakava but not any of the others. I could have held off buying them to get the rest, then purchase them later.

It's a great set, though.
>>
>>5653633
not at all, hell they are better than then quite a few waves, like 2003 wave 1, all of 2005, 2006 wave 1, and 2015 wave 2

man. I missed out on the best sale my local Walmart will probably ever have.

1 Umarak: $15
1 Tahu 15 and a bunch of Tahu 16s: $15
Skull Slicers: $10
Kopaka/Melums: $20
Protector of Stones: $5

fug. I wish I had my paycheck. I could totally use Tahu 15's parts on 16, and Umarak's just a parts-pack that keeps on giving.

kinda wish their Onua 16s were on sale though.
>>
>>5653425
Everyone's a critic. Could you do better?
>>
>>5653721
I don't know about that. The Piraka were pretty ace, and the skeletons were not nearly as bad as people made them out to be (honestly only Skull Slicer was even close to bad).
>>
>>5653801
Even then, I would argue Warrior was the worst set of the bunch for being rather bland and unappealing....but you're supposed to Armybuild them, so of course they're not going to be very distinct.
>>
>>5653799
Maybe. It'd probably take me a lot longer than he got that done in, but I definitely wouldn't post it on the internet or wear it to a con before it looked better than that.
>>

Did they dun goofed or not is the question.
>>
>>5653881
Eh...It might be a problem for some, completionists for sure, if there isn't a Toys R Us nearby, but if people want the set bad enough they can still order online.
>>
>>5653881
>>5653887
To be fair, it's not like many Targets stocked the entire Winter Wave, and I guess Walmart just didn't like that set.

It'll still show up at LEGO stores, so in the end I still get VIP points.
>>
>>5653887
I don't really care if SB is an exclusive or not and don't actually believe it is.

But if this is the way they want to start handling the sales with regular sets it tells an awful lot of how bad the sales are.
>>
>>5653896
I was honestly expecting Quake Beast to be the "exclusive" since retailers usually want red/blue-tone pairings, or even Umarak since he's the "flagship set" for the summer wave (i.e. he's the most expensive one).

I'd be surprised if Year 3 gets even close to as much effort Year 2 got, in the chance LEGO doesn't drop it suddenly because of sales.
>>
>>5653799
Not an argument
>>
>>5653904
The thing is that TRU doesn't even have a page for Quake Beast.

Would be nuts to think that a site like TRU wouldn't have it.
>>

I tried to fix Storm Beast's limbs. I don't know what they were going for with the lower legs, but I assume it was similar to Lava Beast. >>
>>5655154
That is a weird build. Is that how the drill is connected? The more I look at the arms, the less I like them. The clawed arm has a weak shoulder connection and the thumb should have used a T-bar. The other arm should have had a shorter upper arm bone, a lot like Storm Beast. The spinning eye blades should have been the geared action feature rather than the shoulder. When are we getting the rest of the G2 parts in LDD? Having the brainstalk on its own is pointless.

Quake beast is a strange model. It kind of feels like the designers had a bunch of ideas and just kind of squashed them all into one set. And what the fuck is up with the shoulder blades? They don't appear to be functional, but they don't look good aesthetically, so why are they even there? Such a strange design choice.

The only reason for them to be there that I can see is so the can become a pair of fingers for the UtD combiner.

Huh. So that's what it felt to be amazed back in the 80s. Your finds are beatyful. Complete sets, no apparent damage or pieces missing...Whoever used to own those really cared. I feel bad for the guy.
>>
>>5655912

Btw. Is that you, cafe?
>>
>>5655958
Yeah, despite my shitty picture, all the prints and parts are in great condition. The only issue was that it came disassembled, so I was worried there would be missing pieces, but turns out the only missing parts were the two 2x2 slopes on the cargo, which were easily replaceable.
>>
>>5655692

>>5655607

>>
with most everything Winter 2016 being on clearance, which set would make the best parts-pack for MoCs?

especially considering making a Takanuva or possibly one of the Toa Hagah,
>>
>>5656031
That's a load of shit there, anon. those arms fall off all the damned time. they're not built well, unlike Kopaka.
>>
>>5655305
dude, fuck no. Remember back in 2008? We had like a shit ton on sets. Takanuva, Toa Ignika, 6 Makuta, 6 Toa, and even all those fucking vehicles.

They are making less sets than before, and this is fucking clear as light of day.
>>
>>5656073
I meant for G2's run, dingus.

Winter
>6 small
>6 large
>one villain

Summer
>4 large
>1 titan/doublepack

Aside from LEGO combining Kopaka and Melum into a doublepack set, the formula held up for 2016. Chances are, 2017 will also follow the same pattern.
>>
>>5656088
except that it should be 6 fucking large sets, not 4. So still less sets.
>>
>>5656100
2015
>Scorpio
>Slicer
>Warrior
>Basher

>Kulta+Ekimu

4 large, one extra large, 5 in total

2016
>Lava
>Storm
>Quake
>Ekimu

>Umarak

4 large, 1 extra large, 5 in total

Umarak trumps Kulta size wise even in comparison to Kulta's combo model.

Regardless of the ratio of heroes to villains, set wise it's the same fucking thing. Stop comparing it to G1, that was a totally separate run with years spanning in between them. If anything, you should compare this shit to Hero Factory, as this line is a direct follow-up to it.

Is it wrong to use to pins as gears?
It's really only Lego's fault for not introducing many compatible gears without axle-hole in the middle.

The purple crystal part spins into the direction you spin the gear but the green spikes go the opposite.
>>
>>5656303
what's the fucking point of spinning the crystal.
This is so dumb and makes no fucking sense. That's why Protector of Earth was the worst protector.
>>
>>5656303
Use the pins that have a small ball-joint style bit at the end instead of the ones with an axle end, that should make it more "legal"
>>
>>5656303
Wouldn't the technic connector bar get blocked by the knobbed gears?
>>
>>5656384
I actually tried it and it works because it isn't put as close as your regular knob gear.
>>
>>5656303
Fucking. Genius. Great job Anon.
>>
>>5656303
What does all of this actually accomplish? I can't really figure it out. Doesn't twisting the gear at the back spin the front part anyway? What's the point of the additional gears?

>>5656337
Uh. What? You know drills don't have to be cone shaped to work properly, right?
>>
>>5656450
The additional gears make it so that the big part with the green bohrok eyes spins to the other direction.
It just looks cool.

Ok here's a question for you /biog/: how would you improve the current storyline?

The existing characters and basic plot structure have to stay, but you are allowed to elaborate and expand as much as you wish.
>>
>>5656666
Checked.
>>
>>5656666
Honestly the framework for the storyline is pretty solid in concept. I just want some more elaboration and quicker answers to questions that immediately surround the current plot.

I never thought I'd see the day where I actually wished for Greg levels of pointless lore detail. Maybe a happy medium would be nice.
>>
>>5656666
The plot does have potential. I choose to believe that Lego is able to flesh it out into something great.

Although, villanous scheming in G2 could use some work. Maybe not as complicated and drawn-out as Teridax's plan, but I want something more than generic "bad guy takes over world."
>>
>>5656666
Backstory and details, backstory and details. Short stories about other squads of protectors, the origin of the Skull Villains, a glance into the lives of Skull Slicer, Skull Basher, and Kulta in their glory days. The day to day struggles of the villagers trying to survive in a world taken over by hoards of skull spiders. The setting just isn't organic enough. It feels as if the world only exists when plot relevant events are happening. It's too stiff.
>>
>>5656666
More worldbuilding

I'm not a MoCist, but I can't wait to get my hands on those trans-black pieces.

Is there a Bonkle you regret buying? Hard mode: Genwun only.

I'd have to say Bahrag. Don't get me wrong. They're not bad set at all. They look menacing enough and the build is pretty clever.

But they just don't want to stand properly because they're so top-heavy, Muaka does the action feature so much better, and having two identical builds in same set got boring in 2001.

Are they good? Kinda. But definitely not what I was expecting them to be for 14 years. Still, I aim for complete Bonkle collection so it was a necessary thing to do.
>>
>>5656811
honestly the Bahrag are my holy grail set right now. I've been patiently waiting for a set to go up for under fifty dollars.
>>
>>5656811
this is an interesting mentality to have from my perspective. To me, bionicle have always been an art supply with a story and setting, I always considered the idea of bionicles and the things made from technic/ccbs parts something separate from figures, so I never got the idea of gathering them as parts of a collection, only gathering them as parts, with certain parts being more important than others. If it's something you can put into words, what can you tell me about why you choose to collect them as whole figures rather than as resources?
>>
>>5656811
The Phantoka commercial got me SUPER HYPED when I was a kid, enough that I convinced my parents to get me all three toa, all three makuta, and all the matoran sets for a combination christmas/birthday gift. It was the only time I had a complete set of any wave.

Imagine my disappointment when limb pieces started snapping one after the other.
>>
>>5656811
Canister Mata Nui after not having bought a set since the Vahki.
The proportions were awful, the sockets all broke over time and I wasn't a fan of the shooter.
I guess the only reason I bought him was because they slapped "Mata Nui" on the canister.
>>
>>5656811
Probably the visorak at release. I distincly recall buying vohtarak fresh, opening and building it and then going "wow it's fucking nothing."
>>
>>5656811
Probably Stars Takanuva. I only bought it to have at least SOMETHING out of the 2010 wave. Call it a goodbye purchase.

People may shit on G2 all they want, but at least we'll never see shit on the scale of Stars.
>>
>>5656852
The Visorak weren't too bad if you weren't trying to collect all six IMHO. Problem is they were trying SUPER HARD to be the New Bohrok, and the ripcord launcher gimmick is pretty fucking stupid.
>>
>>5656852
Really? I remember buying an Oohnorak way back when it was released. I was fucking pumped to get it.
I wish I still have it around.
>>
>>5656858
Yeah, and considering in the EU we got those first and the Hordika second, it kinda destroyed all my enthusiasm for the line briefly. I got a couple more since as gifts or hands me downs and I don't mind them, but at the time it was a downer.
>>
>>5656844
Honestly, I don't know why. I just have a sizeable collection from way back when, I just need to fill the blanks.

I've always been a collector of various things, and having a complete collection of something that has been so important for me for over a decade just is a no-brainer.

I also have almost complete collections of Slizers and Roboriders (only missing Millennium and three if those fucking dumb polybag Roboriders), so having Bonkle too just feels natural

nice mod, though I feel the friction extenders on the feet are unnecessary.

I recently finished figuring out a Lava Beast mod, Lava beast doesn't need much to be fixed, but main thing was to give him jaw articulation and better legs, while making it still look like a set and meet Lego standards.
>>
whoever keeps drawing porn in the bionicle tumblr tag needs to work on anatomy, god fuckin damn
>>
>>5657599
I suggest changing the technic connectors on the knees to more round ones.

I still feel there must be a simpler way to make the jaw move. Would it be possible to just remove the eystalk altogether?

The head doesn't seem to use it for eyes anyway.
>>
>>5657487
Hmm, okay.
>>
>>5657617
I know it myself but for some reason people don't even want to point it out, thus I get the feeling that what I do is "enough".
>>
>>5657626
The reason the jaw needs to be done this way is because the mask gets in the way of moving it unless the actual articulation point is moved lower, this is pretty much as small as I can make the jaw mod without it having no friction or using illegal techniques.

As for the legs, I wanted to keep them as thing as possible while still meeting lego durability standards and stuff, hence the choice of technic connection.

the thing is...where would I start? I want it to look good alongside the official '16 sets, but given Norik is Silver+Red and Iruini is Gold+Green...augh. the torso shells alone are aggravating me.

the shields are easy. just use Tahu 15's shield for Norik, then paint the same shield gold. PoJ energy parts. done.

the spears, also fairly easy. there are tons of possible blades to use if I want to avoid the original blades. hell, Shapeways has made parts to use older heads on newer bodies most likely....even if they haven't made a new head that uses old masks.

it's the torso that is driving me up a wall...any ideas for specific parts I could use?

the torso structures are Lewa's and Gali's.

constructive criricism is wanted. I know a LOT needs to be changed. bigger shells, more proper colors, different use of shells.

again. rough prototypes. I want to be told how to do it Right.

Bohrok Va and Kohliitoran had combiners that never appeared anywhere, but they just were a thing to do if you were bored. 2004 and 2005 the combiners were just things that existed in the wild. 2006 had Jovan, but everything else was practically non-canon. Same thing for 2007, but with Zyglak. I can't even remember any combiners for 2008 and 2009, but on the final year there was that fucking that was ugly as sin, and it of all things was made a canon character.

What if the "masks" of the beasts end up being Krana of G2?

The jaw being connected to the eyestalk for quick removal seems similar to Bohrok Krana-launching. Having to knock off just half of the face feels a bit odd, even in Bonkle, and the beasts are a horde after all. Even the poster mirrors the old one a bit.

And stealing the masks could be reference to Kal stealing the symbols, but it's like grasping at straws

I got a Vohtarak and I thought it was brilliant. I don't see why people hate the Visorak so much. The Hordika were a bit shit though.

I retardedly sold my old tub of Bonkle parts about 3 years ago.

If I wanted a good MOC-Stock again, should I buy a miscellaneous part lot off eBay?

I thought they were Protectors mutated by Umarak's Shadow Traps when I first saw them. Quake Beast has Korgot's drill and Lava Beast has fire blades on its hands like Narmoto. I don't know how Storm Beast can be connected to any of the other Protectors, but two out of three is close enough.

I mean, I initially thought it was the 3 gold creatures mutated. Lava is a bird like Ikir, Storm has a swiping feature like Melum, and Quake could kinda pass as Terak.

However, since we've seen how Umarak can make full on doppelgangers of himself and the Beasts are a horde; I strongly believe they simply come from Umarak directly. Either that or they're just guardians from the Maze of Control, but I doubt that.

They seem to be coming from under the volcano, the green masks are called "masks of corruption", and they're all dripping with green crap, so I'm guessing there's something akin to Antidermis under the island, corrupting the undead Okotans underneath.
