I still have all of my Dragon Ball figures from back in the day, and a shit ton of those Dragon Balls.
I remember going to EB Toys as a kid and only being able to get one dbz figure, they had that Goku and the Vegeta from that line. I remember seeing reddish paint in the lines between Goku's hair spikes and thought it looked like blood in his hair. Still went with SS Vegeta, who became a staple in my DBZ figures while I later got a much better articulated SS Goku figure. Goku's crotch eventually came apart and his legs would fall off, it went back together but I had to be conscious of moving his legs too much.
They were some good ass days.

It's not as odd in hand. I've put the difference in hair shading aside because this line is terrible at hair consistency anyway. Its closer to Awakening Goku or SS Gohan(to name two that I'm displaying it next to) than any of those are to Vegetto, who probably has the most different looking SS hair of anyone. At worst it looks like it's being lit differently, but its not a huge deal.

Toriyama has exactly four character types he draws: Strong guy, fat guy, skinny guy, and girl. Then he just scales their size a little to make them look different.
Strange characters like Beerus are great, because it looks like he actually put some effort into a design, instead of busting out one of the four stencils listed above.

I have the Figuarts Zero SSJ3 statue which is a really good likeness of the character. If they were to do a regular release of the character, I'd love a regular hair/SSJ version. Hell, a boxset with Kid Trunks and Goten (also with alternate SSJ heads) would be a dream come true...but I know it'll probably never happen.

For $30, you aren't going to find much, maybe just one or two older figures. And mostly just stuff from ebay.
Try searching either Jakks Pacific or Irwin Dragon Ball Z on ebay and you'll get some results. You could also try "Dragon Ball Z figure lot" but you probably won't get anything in your price range.

but we're talking purely based on the figure it is definitely one of if not the best ones in the line. I don't even care about him as a character but there aren't enough bad guy figures in this line to not have him and I knew he'd be hard to find after release. I'd say it's a tie between him and awakening goku for best in the line.
