What could you have possibly hoped in this day and age. I'm giving it a pass due to trying to get audiences looking. You couldn't do that with the old suits unless you got every old actor to replay the roles all over again. Because if it was the old jumpsuits, it'd end up being the actors you all would be pissed off about.
Max Landis is riding his father's name- but his father's name has been worthless since the mid 90s. He directed "The Stupids" and yes "Blues Brothers 2000" was an awful sequel that never should've been made. He went from great movies to garbage.
Then I go look at Max's filmography and it's literally a list of "what is this?".
The only real bright spot is that every PR show was cheesy in the vein of 60s Btaman, only somehow not as good, so this movie couldn't possibly be a letdown compared to that.
As someone who hated the original series and all its sequels, it's an improvement over the cheaposhit budget costumes they used.

I feel like this is one or two revisions away from being a really good update. I don't mind the more abstract designs on the top helmets; in fact I appreciate that they more-or-less kept the shapes of the visors; albeit with more cosideration for peripheral vision(which, unfortunately, makes sabertooth and mastodon look more generic. But pink really looksspot-on.
I'd cut away more of the mouth area. It looks good as a vestigial decorative piece on the original designs because it's small; here it looks like they plan on making the mouths move or something(please,don't).
Blue lights aren't a bad idea, but they don't need to be so frequent. What kills me is that they seem most prominent on the abdomen and thighs, which really don't need attention drawn to them. feels weird having a bright blue light drawing you to Red's inner thigh.
The silver feels haphazardly placed, and probably the most important areas that would've needed it, the "belt" area, and the chest itself. again, Red seems like the most awkwardly designed one, because all the silver starts cropping up in his lower body with comparatively less on his top.
anyway, I remain cautiously optimistic. I kinda hope this inspires Japan to do their own The First take on a Sentai series(probably not Zyu, but maybe cinema original one?).

Because I'm weird and waste my time, I used to go through old Transformers usenet boards from the 90's. One very interesting post was about how now that the then-new Beast wars was CGI, what other mediums Transformers could be. One person had the idea of a toku style series in the vein of Power rangers, which was still in the height of popularity. and ever since then I thought a toku Transformers series would be really cool.

If you mean the figures that are already released, they'll slowly taper off anyway because they're 5" and autistics need all their figures to be the exact same height or else they cry and bitch about how they're "wrong" for not being 6".
