Anyone here collect "designer" or unique vinyl toys? I've been looking at some recently and the prices aside, some of them look really neat. I think there's some beauty in a cluster fuck of pieces that don't necessarily originate from any form of media.
>>
i for one really dig vinyl shit and most urban style toys, but from previous experiences with /toy/ seemes that the general concensus here is that they are garbage and "statueshit"

Sorry pal, i dont think this is the place for our particular tastes, some nerds here get hyperventilated if your toy doesnt have at least 15 POA

>i for one really dig vinyl shit and most urban style toys
Do you have any?
>>

as a general rule this is pretty true but I find it depends on what you post about

generic stuff like dunnys is pretty hated but things with unique sculpts and designs tend to get a little bit more of a pass and you might get a small thread

I do. I mostly buy opened blindbox figures online, theyre relatively cheap but still have good sculpts, if you go for the artist series.
Pete fowler is goat. He did monsterism (pic related) but stopped sculpting in about 2010, just making flat illustrations now.
Nathan jurevicius's scarygirl series are also good, but I don't know if he actually does the sculpting himself. His new series is on the dunny platform and is pretty trash.
I might post my collection tommorrow

Please do so, I just cleared off a shelf to start collecting this sort of thing and need some inspo. There doesn't seem to be a lot online

Toysrevil.blogspot.com has new releases and they also cover more mainstream pop culture toys.
Allvinyls.com and vinyl-creep.net have every vinyl series cataloged between them. Trampt does too but I dont use thay.

Openblindboxes has a small selection of opened blind boxes.

My advice is look through those sites and find what appeals to you, and set up ebay searches that email you when one shows up. Ebay does seem to be the best place to find vinyl these days, but you have to be patient. The kidrobot bst forum is slow now, but maybe useful.
>>
>>5644004
Also I have some mistakes and extras from ebay lots that I can send to you for cheap if you want some to start off your collection.
>>
>>5644016
That'd be awesome actually, thank you for the information. You can email me if you'd like to show me what you have.

I have nothing against statue shit since I buy nipnop statues from time to time.

I haven't dug too deep into vinyl toys but from what I've seen they generally look cool. I couldn't justify the price though unless maybe it was from an artist I really loved.

I really like urban vinyl shit but my space is limited and I try to keep my collection from looking like a clusterfuck. I do buy photo books and prints from the artists I like though.

I like squadts, the .50 kind the most.

You're a faggot for replying to bait though and you brought those people on yourself.

Vinyl toys are cool but I'm too poor to really collect them so I don't have much to contribute.. Things like Funko Pop ruined the concept of vinyl toys so mjuch and I hate them.

Why, why must I want these, every Negora, Shibara, or their western Kyuubi cousin... Shitton of old japanese sofubi and new western sofubi, why must they cost so?
>>
>>5644762
Both pete fowler. The nipple elemental is from world of monsterism vol 1 or 2, which was a gashapon series. The antler guy is from tribes of monsterism, the last monsterism toy he made.

Cavemen and griffin are both from a 2010 series, amanda Visell's tic toc apocolypse.

All four of these are Glyos compatible vinyl toys, I believe. Many Glyos compatible toys are made by many small companies, but most are made out of solid PVC. The bigger hollow vinyl guys are less frequently made, but they're beautiful, they have POA, and they can even be part swapped! You can build your own freakishly beautiful vinyl beast by mixing and matching.
>>
>>5644939
Are these rotocasted? The big deal with urban vinyl was rotocasting rather than injection molding, but the glyos site says theirs are injection molded.

No, the normal Glyos toys ARE injection molded. The vinyl ones are robot cast and hollow.

The Armodoc was actually made with some of their story elements in mind. They would track down and eat the Pheyden characters (absorb them into their bodies) so you can do that with the hollow PVC figures.
>>
>>5644948
Do you know if you can attach the arms at the wrist joint to double the length of the arms? These look interesting and affordable.

I think all the joints are the same peg/hole size, except for the head to neck joint, which is bigger.

Here's a clear one. I saw a picture where someone filled it with neon green plastic BB's, and it looked epic.

No, the arms are males on both end, but the legs are male female so you could use those

The normal PVC Glyos toys are pretty rock hard, not squishy or rubbery at all, at least not on the solid chunk parts like heads. Some of the thin limbs may bend if you applied enough pressure. I imagine the bigger vinyl figures are nice and squishy though, like a rubber duck maybe.

Very durable though. I've never had one break, even when I'm wrenching on the parts to pop them together or pull them apart. I'm assuming you could whip one at the wall as hard as possible and it wouldn't break from that either. Because of their small size, fun looks, wide range of molds and colors, and ability to swap or their build-ability, they're very fun, and make good pocket buddies for photography and whatnot.
>>
>>5644993
Thanks for all the info anon! I'll be buying a few of these soon.
Do you have any awesome customs built?
>>
Lol I completely missed the general
>>
>>5644998
>>5645003
I'm a little burnt out on glyos atm, but I still love them as toys. But yeah, they're very hard to damage. I've had one single issue and that was one of thin walls on one of the roboforce figures tore through, still works though.

If youse new to glyos be sure to check out the glyos general and the sister companies.

- Onell Design is the official glyos stuff
- NiStuff / 481universe has little spacemen guys called Outlanders
- Little Rubber Guys / Rise of the Beasts has battle beasts inspired figures
- Roboforce has, well, roboforce robots
- TheGodBeast has Kabuto Mushi, insect men, and Mega Mushis, big vinyl insects
- Spy Monkey Creations has Weaponeers of Monka which are like golems and weapon packs and Battle Tribes which are like Conan / MoTU inspired fantasy stuff
- Nemo's Factory has like TV-headed robots
- and there's a few resin casted figures too

I might be getting rid of some older stuff soon, so check the glyos general one in a while.

No prob! I don't have anything too extravagant built, but you can see some CRAZY builds online if you know where to search. Here's a bunch of my stuff though. (Excuse the garbage photo.)

The four on the right are custom builds, and the rest of them are either default figures, or just have their head swapped out.
>>
>>5645069
Yeah, after looking at the general and onell's site, I'm interested in the customization aspect so I'll try to get several in one colorway. It looks like onell makes a lot of parts in a clear color, that seems easiest. The titan mushi is amazing though

I took this angry little guy with me when I visited Newport Rhode Island. This build is fun because it adds a lot of articulation.
>>
>>5645082
Clear is always available so it's perfect for building. I have a whole lot of solid black which shows up a lot too. Some waves are more building-focused than character-focused with a lot of nice unpainted color pieces for cheap.

If your interested in the Mushi's try emailing Marty at TheGodBeast and tell him you're interested in collecting. See if he has any room in his "Beast List", which is his early access pre-order email. Or get some mushis first and make sure you like them. I don't know.

Back on topic, though. I got his and a "flesh" colored one from a guy I follow on instagram, @radioactiveuppercut. They're solid rubber, but he's looking at doing hollow vinyl eventually. He has other ones too.
>>
I'm working on making a tabletop game right now, and I just made silicone molds for all my miniatures so I can reproduce them in a plastic resin. Now that I know how to make molds of things though, I totally want to try and make some hand roto-cast vinyl art figures, especially because I love sculpting in clay.

If anyone's interested, the products I used are by "Smooth-On" company. (I think that's what they were called.) They're really easy to use. Easier than I thought.

Probably. Now that Homestuck proper is all over I think we'll see more merchandising on Homestuck 2.0 and the game. I believe a lot of the delays were from Hussy trying to squeeze more fish out of the comic. Not in a greedy way but more in a "holy shit the biggest opportunity in my life is slipping away."

More on topic, I have a few labbit blind box figurines. They're very cute and I'll post a pic later. My favorite has an ice cream cone mashed in its face.

Im too jewish for this.
The other day I bought a brand spanking new Mechawhale on ebay for 15 bucks only to discover most online listings are like 40. Why is vinyl so expensive if it's not fuckopoop
>>
>>5658702
Limited production runs are part of the appeal. The original 'art toy' scene grew out of very short sofubi runs in the late 90s, basically the smallest run that the factory would accept.
>>
I love blindbox toys but I don't live near anywhere that sells them, and honestly I think the boat for them has sailed in terms of popularity.
Most other designer toys are cool, but I can't justify spending the money they ask for on something that is usually so simple.

and its great! you can get almost any blindbox from the past ten years for original retail + shipping on ebay if you're patient. only the rarest are marked up past 2x retail
