I liked it during the first ten or so years of the franchise when the designs were more fluid due to hardware constraints. Compare Bowser of SMB with Bowser of SM64 (both the in-game model and the rendered model seen in ads).
By Sunshine they were able to keep a more or less consistent design for everyone going forward.

I happen to like the size, with his shell and overall width and mass he takes up a good deal of space and looks good.

I'm hoping this line develops more. I want more actual characters.. Peach, Rosalina, Wario, is DK possible? He'd be great. Playsets and enemies are cool, but I wish the enemies at least had swivel limbs.

It's certainly very flawed but, aside from my blind need for a great big bows figure we never had, it shows Jakks did what it could to make it the best they can. The design is just about accurate to the character, it has good arm joints, and it's huge. Even though they cut costs, at least some of us plebs are happy with it.
Bandai will probably B it TFO with their more awesome sculpting and accessories, but it's still tiny and lacks the joints we expected it to have. also it costs nearly 70$. Hopefully someone gets it soon so that they can reallly compare it
I'm ok with the size on SHF Bowser. I mean the Mario we got is super mushroom mode right? So he should be as big according to all the games.
