Really wish they could make a good Leatherneck figure.

The obsession with making him nothing but a recolor of Leatherneck is really sad and more so, the 50th Anniversary version is just so fucking freakishly big, that it makes him out of place next to other figures. Not to mention the god-awful decision to make his arms green plastic and paint them a zombie flesh color.
>>
Leatherneck, like Beachhead, is a Joe that needs more love and promotion.

He's far far more interesting than Gung-Ho (especially visually since Leatherneck LOOKS LIKE A SOLDIER and not a Village Person) and unlike Gung Ho, has an actual personality that isn't cookie cutter, in that he's the team's resident asshole.

Granted, Beachhead only keeps getting figures made because of cost saving measures, in terms that they can turn a Beachhead figure into a Firefly figure with minimum changes. Leatherneck deserves to get the same love, especially when you factor in how the Marines generally get the shit end of the stick in terms of representation on the team, especially these days.
>>
>>5628383
Even though Firefly and Beachhead have been my favorite characters since I was kid, I still have to agree with you.
>>
>>5628487
Part of me wishes they would push Beachhead over Duke if they need a generic soldier dude as the face of the franchise.
>>
>>5628510
Beachhead would have to drop the balaclava
>>
>>5628383
I agree up with you untill the Beachhead/Firefly repaint stuff they haven't done that since the 25th every Beachhead and Firefly since has either been new parts or completely different builds.

The 50th Leatherneck is Awesome if you find one made after the first shipment the added hight makes the Resident Brick shithouse of the team. We need more representation from all the other branches thats given.
>>
>>5628532
Beachhead would ironically be the best of both worlds between Snake Eyes and Duke. Masked bad-ass but he can talk and remove his mask when the story requires it.
>>
>>5628641
I still prefer Duke even though BH is my favorite joe, but I'd like to see him have more of a senior leadership role. He'd look pretty sharp unmasked with his airborne beret on every now and then. Such a badass.

Anyone try doing a unmasked head swap from the v10 comic pack edition to the 50th version? It's my personal definitive version.
>>
figures you buy for the accessories?

Picked up several of each version of Para Viper, figure is good but the gear is phenomenal for other custom Cobra airborne troops.
>>
>>5628733
I use the wave one Retaliation Greenshirt head as my default unmasked head for Beachhead since it resembles the Sideshow Collectibles unmasked Beachhead head

I hear a bunch of GI Joe fans are in danger of being doxxed. Seems one of the forums banned and harassed someone after the fact, but that person has a good number of names and addresses of their members from a few years of sales forum activity. Probably justified, you don't fuck with someone and not get payback.

Exactly what I want. I need to buy that plane from true heroes or whatever, the one that tries to be a C-130, to make a display of some cobra paratroopers paradopping.

Been trying to find a gi joe comic that my dad threw away long time ago. It was the only gi joe comic I've had.

-it has Ace and Joe Colton flying on a plane. I think they are remembering a mission?
-Ninja force Zartan appears
-jungle scene, probably stalker, I think it was vietnam.

I think it was by Dark Horse.

Anyone know what the GI Joe Extreme, Sky Stalker looks like with 25th figures in it? I assume they must fit since 25th are smaller than Extreme figures, but is the cockpit too big, etc.? If so I'm considering picking one up to use with Rise of Cobra Crimson Neo Vipers to use as Skar soldiers.

Sky striker is doable with some manipulation. Backseat will hold a scarlet ok.

Night raven wont fit too well. Iirc the drop down cockpit wont seal because the figures are too tall and thicker than the 80s ones.

Lore wise, what's the difference between a standard viper and the blue uniform/black lower mask guys?
>>
>>5631343
As far as I can recall, none. I want to say that Vipers just replaced the blue-shirts.
>>
>>5631343
From what I understood vipers were a step above cobra troopers and were used to complement the legions of troopers while at the same time replacing them at some point.
>>
>>5631343
>blue uniform/black lower mask guys?
you mean cobra troopers?

I'll tell you mine lore because why not.

I didn't read the comics or watched much of the cartoon, I just liked the figures.

-Cobra troopers/Officers (Blue Pajamas, covered mouth): The lowest tier of the Cobra hierarchy. When you go to Cobra you are assigned to any cobra trooper unit and given basic training etc. Basically militia/conscript tier. Most numerous type of troop

-Cobra Vipers: The next level, veterans if you will, that have proven themselves in battle, have access to better armor and weapons, plus that cool helmet.

-Crimson Guard: Kind of like the SS, Gestapo or KGB. They put into effect whatever policies Cobra must enforce in a given area. They are also sent to infiltrate hostile countries or areas to be easier to take.

was reading some file cards and came across this:

"SNAKE EYES was tempered on the anvil of life until he was as dangerous as a razor-edged sword, flailing in the dark. The G.I. JOE team sheathed that sword and harnessed its deadly energy, but even they may forget that within the safety of its scabbard, the blade retains its cutting edge."

So does that means Snake eyes can go rogue or what? has that ever happened in the comics/cartoons?
>>
>>5631506
In the movies, he was part of the Sith before he joined GI Joe after a near-fatal battle.
>>
>>5631343
>Lore wise, what's the difference between a standard viper and the blue uniform/black lower mask guys?

IIRC Vipers didn't become a thing until Serpentor came along. They were supposed to be like the Cobra Legionary because muh Caesar Genes.
>>
>>5631506
Literally EDGY: The character.
>>
>>5631343
Vipers were at the time of their introduction into the line meant to replace blue shirts, aka Cobra Troopers. But most people use Vipers as heavy infantry. Meaning Vipers you'd see more in the battle field, while Troopers you'd see in bases and driving vehicles.

Later in the early 90's you stopped really seeing Cobra Troopers in Joe media, such as the cartoons and even saw almost no regular Vipers. Instead seeing Vipers replaced with more job specific Vipers, such as the Alley Viper; Heat Viper, Toxo Viper, Techno Viper, etc. The line started to focus on having new troops for every kind of job.
>>
>>5631506
I think it means snake eyes works with gi joe but he could easily outskill his colleagues and make a run for it.

>>5632494
the last Great Snake-eyes focused on arc in ARAH that doesn't make me gag. Though I do hope we get a ARAH Sean Colins SE...That mask looks sick.

Vipers imagine the worse version of the Army, Marine relationship and you have the Troopers versus Vipers.Troopers are the Rank and File they are recruited from the towns and countries that Cobra has taken over, while Vipers tend to either be recruited from Spec-ops units Vets or through the various Cobra owned PMCs they are given the best tech and weapons Cobra can buy while the troopers are lucky if they get a non rusted AKM and a airsoft quality chest rig. The troopers form the backbone of Cobras forces so they are everywhere, Vipers really only show up when a city needs taking or a VIP needs escort or captured they are Cobra wetworks. A trooper can become a viper after two years of service or become a Shock Trooper or Field Officer depending on his or her skills. Vipers can stay Vipers or become more specialized in their fields EELS, Lampreys, Snow Serpents, Data-Vipers and various other groups recruit from the Viper corps. But at the end of the day they are still members of Cobra and will stop at nothing to bring down the West no matter the cost.

Scarlett and SE are a couple in Hama's continuty
SE and Scarlett dated in IDW she also had a past with Duke that was never brought up and Chuck "All my characters are the same" Dixon made her and Mainframe a couple Though Mains becoming a large part of the Joe team through his work on finding Cobra was a great arc.

The prices on amazon are e-sellers, who are regular people who are basically toy speculators for the most part.

They do it on Amazon because it's considered more trustworthy by normals, who if they see a price there, will go ahead and buy it and probably never know the difference.

Special edition.

Pretty much ALL of the 1/6 Sideshow Joe figures came in two forms. One was the standard release and the second one was the "special edition" which had a super-limited production run and basically existed to drum up pre-order sales.

Some like Flint and Dusty only had extra weapons, but Beachhead, Crimson Guardsman, Viper, and General Hawk all had extra heads in their "special edition" version.

Beachhead, Viper, and Crimson Guardsman all had unmasked heads (or in the case of the Viper, head with an old-timey open faced helmet).

The Special Editions sold out fast but they had a "wait list" buy function where if someone cancelled their pre-order, then the next person who submitted an order for one got that person who canceled their pre-order's figure. This was how I ended up getting the special edition Viper, Beachhead, and Crimson Guardsman.

The limited production order made the Special Edition versions extremely hard to find on the secondary market, let alone ultra-expensive if you ever find them for sale. They usually go for $300-500 a piece.

So what is the deal with these faggots?

Are they like a bad-guy SWAT team? Why would Cobra even need such a specialty?

I mean, they come with tasers and incapacitating batons plus a riot shield, more akin to controlling civilians than fighting as terrorists.

But the name, 'Shock trooper', evokes an era of assaulting fortifications or something, 'Stosstruppen' or 'Sturmgrenadiere' I imagine a soldier armed to the teeth, with a sub-machine gun and several grenades.

I think they were a mistake, probably the mold was going to be shockwave or something but they decided at the last minute he was going to be a redundant Cobra trooper, why redundant? because Alley vipers already exist! plus they are way cooler and look meaner and more badass and have basically the same lethal gear but looks more tricked out (dat helmet, dat shield, dat gun and backpack) like a real bad-guy SWAT team from hell.

They are the Blue Shirt counterpart to the Alley Viper. In Cobra controlled regions without Vipers, they basically are the Cobra Trooper version of SWAT/Alley Vipers

Behind the scenes, they were created when the 25th anniversary Alley Viper turned out to be a huge fucking hit and the design team decided to create another urban SWAT style Cobra trooper.

Vipers have cooler costumes and the blank featureless mask makes them sexier in terms of adding a dash of mystery to the goon and what he looks like beneath the helmet.

Gridiron was a failed character, but he served a purpose of a white pretty boy protagonist for the reboot, given how fans and producers were pretty much sick of Duke by this point in the franchise's history.

That said, his interaction with Lady Jaye was good in that rookie hero sort of way and his backstory (West Point football star) is kind of interesting in terms of background. The costume was hideous though I will give you that.

I have to say/think he could still be salvaged with a redesigned look/costume.
>>
>>5641047
I'd settle for Devil's Due Zarana personally. They ditched the bull dyke haircut Zarana had and gave her a pixie hair cut, which did wonders to turn her from a boner killer to attractive.

So, what do you guys think about the future of anything 1:18 scale at retail? Didn't hear about much from Toy Fair, and over the years I've seen the variety of figures on store shelves dwindle to almost nothing. Prices on what remains continue to creep upward.

Do factors like production costs and difficulty of attracting consumer's attention mean that 1:18 scale is pretty much done, perhaps permanently?
>>
>>5641402
1:18 comes and goes in waves and we have seen little slowdown in Star Wars poorly articulated shit.
We have seen more however from smaller companies due to the lack of desired products so Gun Runners and Boss Fight (as well as others) has started to get a bit more individually tailored to what people want.

If it's anything like 1/6, articulated and detailed 1/18 is probably going to be primarily non retail from now on.

At least there will always be Chap Mei, and sometimes PTE.

No, it just seems like Hasbro has of late shifted focus into 6" figures for the collector markets, with Black Series and the Marvel stuff. Rumors of 6" Joes etc. When oil prices are higher that has led to a focus on smaller figures in the past.

Something that was bugging me and was hoping you guys could offer your own opinion/feedback: would it be that bad if Hasbro/IDW went after the Tumblr audience with Transformers?

No one gave a flying fuck about the IDW comics until they introduced gay characters and undid the "No non-tranny girl Transformers" rule via introducing natural non-mentally disturbed tranny female Transformers. Or when they started making the Decepticons morally ambiguous/good and the Autobots morally ambiguous bad.

They could make Wetsuit and Leatherneck a gay couple, push Jinx, Cover Girl, Lady Jaye, Scarlet in much higher profile roles, explore Destro's moral ambiguity and make the Iron Grenadiers good guys, maybe even kill off Zartan and put Zarana in charge of the Dreadnoks full time? Maybe even de-Hitlerize Cobra Commander and permanently ditch the Klan hood and have him go around without a mask, as acknowledgement of how in this day and age, most bad guys revel in letting the world know who they are and pushing their story (and CC's story is quite sympathetic).

And they could push the idea of morally ambiguous Joes too, to pander to those on the right who think torture and shit works. Night Force becomes a wetworks team for GI Joe, led by Hit and Run, while Snake Eyes becomes a mute version of Prowl, who does all sorts of sick, twistted shit for the greater good, while hiding behind the fact that as a ninja, EVERYONE is scared shitless to call him out on his actions.

Things are pretty dire enough as it is, why not go the Tumblr route like Transformers did to buy the franchise another 5 years?
>>
>>5643664
GI Joe is pro-military and Hasbro is obscenely protective of the brand in the post-911 world.

Look at their Kindle World rules fan fiction writers have to abide by to produce licensed GI Joe ebooks: the members of GI Joe have to be written as good guys who don't hate anyone and apolitical (meaning they can't be used as a soap box for the writers) and all erotica/porn is banned, even scenes of nudity are off-limits and any of the official canon couples have to be written with G-rated romance storylines.

Not to mention saying Cobra can't be a fan of any real life brands or people, meaning SJW can't make cheap cracks about how Corba (the bad guys) are fans of everything SJW hate (Trump, Conservatives, Moderate Democrats, Milo, Gamergate, white men, sports, CIS gays, etc)

I would love to see this. Even though is a bit deep for a toy brand.

I think Renegades scratched the surface a bit with the no-canon stuff. Like Cobra being a multi-branch "good" company like Google or monsanto etc.

Love the idea of Snake Eyes being a psycho killer going rogue and everyone being scared of questioning him.

I also always wondered, if Cobra is so bad, then how come they keep finding recruits and financing? They should explore that road like what is it? A religious thing? Money? From where? How? What is the actual ideology that compels men to join the ranks of cobra? or maybe they already have explained it? I don't read the comics but would like to. Would love to see a panel in the comics about a great speech by a charismatic Cobra Commander. Also, tone down the massive equipment at their disposal or have them be a fictional country in the Balkans or some shit, I would like them to be more militia rag tag deal than having an army with the power of an Euro nation.

Grey shades on both sides sounds like fun.

>I also always wondered, if Cobra is so bad, then how come they keep finding recruits and financing? They should explore that road like what is it? A religious thing? Money? From where? How? What is the actual ideology that compels men to join the ranks of cobra?

IMO Cobra is basically funded by a pyramid scheme/Bernie Madoff big money scam and the people involved are TEA party/Trump supporter types who are disgruntled with the status quo in the US. That is more or less Cobra Commander's origin in the comics IIRC. Fairly believable really, it's just like a well-funded militia on steroids.

Then you add in the Cobra La stuff and it goes fucking haywire.

to answer your cobra question, they keep it vague, one week Cobra is all about restoring American values and bringing back the "good ol days" other weeks they just pay everyone and promise them the world. there no one cobra Ideology just what ever can bring in the most people.and support to the cause.

Cartoon Cobra (plus Action Force Cobra, which has the added baggage of retconning Destro and Cobra Commander as being the top two guys from the Red Shadows, as part of a switch-over from Action Force being it's own unique universe into becoming GI Joe) basically have Cobra as SPECTRE and the Nazis (minus the antisematism and racial stuff); full on terror group that wants to take over the world.
>>
They tried to do the SJW shit during POC/Resolute: Dial Tone got replaced with a woman, Ripcord became a black guy, they got Tumblr favorites Channing Tatum, Chris Eccleston, and Joseph Gordan Levits cast in the movie and gave the cartoon to Warren Ellis to write (a man who once bragged about the number of pro-beastiality bits he snuck into a Castlevania cartoon pitch that thankfully got rejected). They even retconned CC in the comics at the time as being behind the 2008 economic crash/head of Enron, as well as having Cobra explicitly founded by anti-government militia folks for added SJW points.

Failed miserably it did.

Because they are bad from YOUR perspective. Like real terrorist groups they obviously appeal to someone.

Whether it's the (slightly overblown) appeal to super poor 3rd worlders who are too poor to do anything else to the (under-blown, if that's a word, by the media) appeal of middle class and upper middle class educated young adults due to ideology.

There is some appeal:

Ideology (Religion, Political)
Money (gettin' paid nigga!)
Fighting (some people just like to fight)

Or even the exploitation (not some gay SJW condemnation of colonialism, but as a force multiplier) of local populations who are themselves already involved in separatist or reformist movements. Or even states which are involved in state sponsored or internally aimed repressive terrorism.
>>
>>5644449
>Because they are bad from YOUR perspective. Like real terrorist groups they obviously appeal to someone.

Exactly my point, they should explore why there's people willing to die for Cobra Commander. Maybe make us sympathize with them, like the Commander from Avatar that if you see things from his perspective you start to see the plot differently and realize he did nothing wrong.
>>
>>5644494
>they should explore why there's people willing to die for Cobra Commander

That's just not the purview of the type of jingoist image GI Joe presents in movies and cartoons.

There's really no room for nuance in action movies and kids cartoons. And no producer is ever going to risk the image of their show or movie by even giving a slight excuse to label it as "pro terrorism".

Most parents aren't going to want to have to explain to their kids that the people who commit terrorist attacks may be motivated by the loss of their own loved ones, religious belief (beyond saying they are a death cult or not the "right kind" of Muslim), political belief, or even socialization with other members (one of the primary drivers for terrorist groups' existence, and one of the largest signifiers of radicalization). If you have Snake Eyes and Duke slaughtering blue shirts who are motivated by the destruction of their village by Predator strikes, there's going to be a lot of uncomfortable questions about why they are the "bad" guys and GI Joe are the "good" guys.
>>
>>5643664
One of the few things mentioned here that I really object to is Cobra Commander without his mask. His mask is a big deal and the ambiguity of what he actually looks like is part of it and his character. Unmasked they've had him usually with a disguise or a Fred face in the past. His helmet also includes a bomb that would go off if anyone ever forcibly tried to remove it.

Or when they started making the Decepticons morally ambiguous/good and the Autobots morally ambiguous bad.

We did, and the latter elements had already been a part of IDW's comics. what happened is that they tossed everything out the window with All Hail Megatron to get the casual audience, which alienated a bunch of people who had been following up until then. That bid failed and the comics languished in the state you said until they stated pandering. So really it only seems like people started caring but really its more like the audience has undergone a sea change.

>They could make Wetsuit and Leatherneck a gay couple

tumblr fangirls don't want manly, hairy middle aged Blaine and Mac homosexuals, they want demure, cutesy ones. A longterm military man love like aforementioned Blaine and Mac would be interesting since it dates back to some of the oldest militaries; but it wouldn't necessarily get them any points unless they where made into clean shaven slim guys in their 20's.

>push Jinx, Cover Girl, Lady Jaye, Scarlet...Zarana.... in much higher profile roles

Not a bad idea in general, but not necessarily a hook for girls in particular. a lot of the "tumblr" audience doesn't really need women in prominent roles. See Sherlock. that said making them prominent is a fine idea.

> moral ambiguity... Maybe even de-Hitlerize Cobra Commander

I don't think you have to make him completely sympathetic, you can make him outright terrible so long as he's charming. The Decepticon Justice division are fan favorites and they're horrible killers. You can have a character murder people and people will forgive it if he's a "woobie"

Good ideas overall. I think if its more of a dark humor slant it'd go by easier. I'd almost go for a Venture Bros tone.

It was a dogshit "event" that shat all over about four years worth of storylines, to the point of full-blown ignoring YEARS of newly established canon (no Matrix, Cybertron being a radioactive death planet) and not even having internal consistancy with it's plot, to the point that IDW had to extend the mini by about 4 issues to half-assedly address the fan complaints regarding continuity.

Not to mention the fact that it FAILED MISERABLY to move the dial (fun fact, sales didn't go up at all) saleswise and was immediately upstaged by Last Stand of the Wreckers, in terms of LSOTW being embraced by fans while AHM was rejected.

Just traded 4 50th Steel Brigade Troopers for the following:

50th Lowlight
50th Beachhead
50th Viper Officer
Ultimate Roadblock

Also just ordered an MISB Eaglehawk with Lift Ticket.

I swear Retaliation was the greatest line Hasbro has produced in the modern era. There's so many gems hidden in that line to where it's just slightly better than Pursuit of Cobra.
>>
>>5646741
Nice.

I'm too looking for an eaglehawk and a skystriker. MISB if possible since I've never had one. How much for the copter if you don't mind asking? And where?

I'm thinking an ultimate Rockblock would make a fine Major Dutch from Predator.

Retaliation had indeed lots of goodies. I want Mouse and Airborne the most right now from that line.

Meh
I enjoyed the comic packs and PoC better.
Good figures and having touched up comics on mass market shelves felt so nice

That would be good for ARW.

Just kidding anon.

I don't yet own any alley vipers, someday hopefully.
>>
>>5646880
I got the Eaglehawk for $67 in box. There's a guy on hisstank right now who has one loose for $50, but the Lift Ticket figure is separate. Most of his stuff has unapplied stickers as well.

I've been meaning to get a Roadblock for some time. I put off getting him because I wasn't sure for awhile how I felt on some of the movie figures, but man, it's awesome to have The Rock in your Joes to join Sgt. Slaughter in whooping Cobra ass. As for Dutch, I thought about doing that with a casted head I saw on ebay awhile back, but I didn't like that the head had a sculpted on cigar.
>>
>>5647042
Both those lines were solid, but Retaliation had:

The Eaglehawk- a modern era faithful reproduction of the Tomahawk.

The Ghosthawk MKII- A more real world version of the VTOL, which can repel troops down into battle with the use of cords.

Ultimate Cobra Commander- The definitive Cobra Commander, which included even a mini fang copter and two heads.

Ultimate Storm Shadow- Came with two heads and a Claw to fly around on.

Ultimate Snake Eyes

Ultimate Roadblock

Also gave us a more modern update of the Crimson Guard.

Cobra Invasion Trooper- A red repaint of the POC Shock Trooper that came with a cobra parachute.

Night Viper

Alley Viper- painted in red and with a zip line for them to crash through windows like swat guys.

Jinx- an exclusive figure re-released for a line; something Hasbro doesn't really do, but on her they made an exception.

Kwinn- a major Joe character who was supposed to be released during 30th but was almost canceled.

Zartan- He's a Renegades version of the character with light piping that makes his eyes glow. He's very badass.

Data Viper

Lady Jaye- a very decent version of the character.

Blue = Cobra. Why hasbro does joes in blue, who knows.
>>

Cobra rents these guys out as PMCs to the US government, to help "fight terrorism." Who do you think was killing, torturing and raping all those civilians in Iraq?

Naval/ Night ops the story on the back of the packaging basically spells it out for people. Dusty and Bazooka were trailing Firefly at night.

or it could just be Dusty when he went traitor.

>if Cobra is so bad, then how come they keep finding recruits and financing?

pic related has a great story about how some people find their way into Cobra. i don't want to spoil anything, but just remember the old saying: One man's terrorist is another man's patriot. It all depends on what news channel you're watching.

highly recommend this collection, it has some great stories about individual Joes and Cobras. The art is hit or miss though.

Listen Joe Plebs. Heres the 411 back during the sunbow Days. Dusty's mom had Cancer and he had to pay her bills but Duke refused to up his pay and he left eventually he turned to Cobra and worked with them scoring some blows against Joe and even...Wounding Duke forcing him in to a Coma while he heal and for for a while Dusty was Joe enemy number one.
Turns out Duke formulated the plan for Dusty to go undercover in cobra to discover the location of Temple Prime but Duke getting wounded lead to the plan being postponed. It's one of the best two parters of Sunbow and still holds up today.

Also Dusty is Infantry and if you go by his filecard..... He doesn't believe in second chances. Ironic

21$ for a Comic Bucky. That ok to pay for him?

idk. He's a really good 1/18 figure and the only good version of the winter soldier but it's obvious that $21 is the movie-season fee.

The vest, pouches, straps are made of Lego sails. Just cut the shapes and glue.
The buckles are made of soft metal wire, S shaped
