I kinda wish Sideshow would sell just the helmet, if they started a life-size helmet collectible line I would be ecstatic.

For that much, why not get a Real Doll? At least you can fuck her and she's about $1000 cheaper.

And if you MUST have a stormtrooper, why not spend that extra $1k on a Captain Phasma outfit for your Real Doll? Now you have a high class sex toy, but ALSO a high class nerd collectable.

Anybody plan on army building these like I am?

When I die, I want to be entombed in a place filled with traps, and have 3000 of my life-sized Storm Troopers placed around my like the Chinese Terracotta soldiers.

What will the historians think when they unearth my burial place a few thousand years from now?
>>

Probably because the people who have this kind of money to throw on such collectables most likely have wives.

A lot of these people who buy Sideshow and Hot Toys shit are pretty successful, ie. don't look like neckbeards and have money.

Hey, taxidermy ain't easy. You need alot of hard to get, expensive preservative chemicals. Custom foam padding to resemble the musculature. Tons of labor intensive, gross work skinning the body. Boiling the meat off the bones so you have a skeleton to attach everything to. Not to mention getting rid of the unwanted body parts discreetly. For total cost & convenience, get a RealDoll.

Hot Toys are around the $150-500 dollar price range, way beyond fucking $8k

But I agree Hot Toys are definitely for those who can afford them.

I'm just glad that its only because they are licensed the figures are so expensive, other 12" figure companies make non-licensed or "lookalikes" if they are movie figures so they can cost much, much less, even if you have a lot of equipment, armor or weapons on a figure.

Hot Toys used to make military figures too but other companies have surpassed them now in that regard. That's fine though, so long as they don't bump up the prices for those like Hot Toys and Sideshow have been doing for licensed figures.
>>
>>5616897
Non-military shit is getting up there in prices, wasn't that unlicensed movie Dredd like $150? And 3A 12'' stuff is usually around $120.

4 MB, 4000x2667
>>5616900
Yeah 3A is one of those who like to make em really expensive for no reason.

Licensed shit is just insane now, $200 for Star Wars 1/6th from Hot Toys and Sideshow like I said. But unlicensed vary, sometimes they put a lot of effort into the face sculpt of the actor they are going for from the movie, but obviously avoid making any reference to the name of the movie so they can get away with it, and if that brings the costs down a little then I'm fine with it.

I just want to see regular military,sci-fi,other 1/6th not get anymore expensive than they are already, because they see Hot Toys and Sideshow doing it and think thats what the market as a whole wants.

Hot Toys and Sideshow basically have the market fucking cornered when it comes to licensed figures so they get paid big, and can make real quality stuff like their most recent Star Wars figures but they cost so much the average toy collector can't justify more than one per month or even year as it would be for me.

Meanwhile Medicom RAH is slightly less expensive but still doing some quality figures like these.
>>
>>5616921
RAH has some QC problems, mainly with their fabrics, but overall their pretty solid for their price. Especially since you can get some of them for way below retail.

I mean just look at this shit, those fat fucking legs
>>
>>5617069
Even the normal scale figures look that way, and I can't unnotice it now on every First order trooper I see, toy, movie, CG model etc
>>
>>5617072
Meanwhile look at the normal Stormtroopers legs, slim and long, with some slightly more visual detail around them, to make the armor look overall well rounded and coherent, unlike the new trooper where it just appears to stop below the waist in a sense.

Jar Jar Abrams, Disney, and pretty much everyone else involved in TFA missed the point of Star Wars so hard that I've started to think that they did it on purpose.
The Stormtrooper armor wasn't supossed to be practical/realistic but just give the troopers certain aesthetic effect.
>>
>>5617196
It doesn't really look much more practical, I think it's just them trying to add more black for contrast. It's not like the other designs were practical, just look at Kylo's fucking lightsaber.
>>
>>5615990
Shit, if 8k magically dropped into my bank account my first thought would be to pay off around 1500 in loans I've got hanging around, then after that buy a Cintiq 27". After that I guess I'd just buy every expensive and rare figure I've ever wanted - transparent Killer Queen, Hot Toys Iron Man Secret Project, etc. It'd still be a struggle to blow that much on toys, to be honest.
>>
>>5617196
>The Stormtrooper armor wasn't supossed to be practical/realistic but just give the troopers certain aesthetic effect.

Agreed.

They went so far away from the original intention of these troopers that it hardly feels like Star Wars.

I'm just worried how badly they will mess up the Scout Trooper variant, with any luck they won't but considering how they have been treating it like you said, they will probably remove that iconic and cool visor and make a practical looking helmet that is far from aesthetic and cool looking like the original, thus missing the point again.

Yeah it feels designed for comfort of cosplayers and actors unlike the original stromtrooper outfits, which were made for aesthetics in mind, certainly not cosplayers or any expectation of anyone wanting to wear them apart from the film

But the aesthetics suffer from that in my opinion, and I really dislike the helmet. I can appreciate it as a cool helmet but it doesn't fit for a Stormtrooper in my opinion
>>
>>5618610
Yeah, I'm sticking to classic too. The death's head helmet is just too iconic.

>Yeah it feels designed for comfort of cosplayers and actors unlike the original stromtrooper outfits

Very close, but official word is that Disney had their costume designers tweak it for one very important purpose: For use in the parks. The wider range of vision means you don't need a second trooper to watch for kids outside your peripheral vision, and the armour itself is easier to get in and out of.
