Looks like Figma Mirai.
>>5612260
>Figma Mirai.
thank you Fakimus!
your custom looks great cant wait to see how you decorate the rest of it
>>5612276
Thanks! Good luck hunting down your figure!
>>5612424
well, she's not exactly in a bikini...

It's a custom I did, but yes that is a modified 3A head.
>>5612569
>>5611851
>>5611846
These are neat! Very fitting environment.
Not a busy backdrop, but here's a photo of all my fabric wearing figures.
>>5612674
Nice! I've seen your other customs before but didn't see this one.
I love doing customs/kitbashes too but my options are more limited, pic related is a clonetrooper with some extra WWII gear
1/6th feels best for kitbashing or making customs but damn is it expensive, I've seen toy scale shirts the price of real life shirts, crazy when you think about it
>>5612712
>stomps all day; yet skinny battle droid legs
>random shit hanging off everywhere to get tangled and slap against your armour making noise
Christ try not heaping shit on shit
>>5612712
Really? I'd argue he's my most prolific since he's the one that began my descent into 1/12 fabric that's ended in a bunch of gloomy looking masked men hanging out with pretty princess anime girls and frilly dresses.
That Clone Trooper doesn't look too bad but I feel like gear would be fitting in a desert or tropical environment, so some camp paint or light weathering would complete the look.
>>5612718
>random shit hanging off everywhere to get tangled and slap against your armour making noise
Exact;y the look I was going for
>stomps all day; yet skinny battle droid legs
Legs look skinny from that angle only
>armour
Anyways I think my idea with this one was a clone lost behind enemy lines, in some type of survival situation for a long duration, separated from his legion and commanders in a hostile world after a battle goes south, so he needs all that extra gear on him yeah
Its been awhile but that was the basic premise, I just wanted to stuff as much gear and straps on him as I could desu
I tried to be artsy about it.
>>5612726
Huh, maybe its just cause I haven't been on /toy/ in half a year and I forgot, and I may have seen that figure in previous threads but forgot
>but I feel like gear would be fitting in a desert or tropical environment, so some camp paint or light weathering would complete the look.
>Just some dirt, vegetation and maybe a burnt out campfire could go a long way.
Both sound like good ideas but out of my reach for many reasons for now, I can only really play around with kitbashing to make customs and its fun and I like it but if you can't afford it its hell, especially with 1/6th loose accessories, helmets and clothing that sell for $15 fucking dollars etc.
>>5612569
I never knew how badly I wanted to see these figures out on a real beach like that, I love it
>>5612737
I like it. Figure is nice and clear and picture is bright, but I have no idea what the source material is or what he's throwing.
>>5612741
Yeah, 1/6 prices can be outrageous. Azone 1/12 can get fairly absurd in the aftermarket too. I've seen dresses go for $65 a piece. With that money, I can eat for a week.
If you're interested in working on a base, I suggest looking up pumice gel. It's a thick paste that solidifies with a grain like texture and absorbs paint very well. I use it for dirt mainly, like in this picture >>5612223
Anyway, best of luck in your custom and photo adventures.
>>5612752
Thanks same to you anon.
Whenever I do become able to add more to my figures instead of just kitbashing I'll keep the pumice gel in mind.
For now I just use Styrofoam for bases, sometimes actual "bases" like pic related, thank god I still had some around and didn't throw it out, styrofoam thats custom molded to the shape of a particular product can make for great toy bases and dioramas, this one was from my computer tower
>>5612752
It's Oikawa from Haikyuu. It's a sports anime that focuses on volleyball.
The art from the manga likes to over saturate the colours a lot so I thought id try a bit of that for this picture and blur the background.
This is what the original pic looked like
>>5612260
i love the world that you're building with this stuff. Care to say something about the lore? Why do they wear these masks and stuff? Or is it part of the artsy mystery behind your works?
>>5612804
Here's a crummy summary.
Imagine a Witcher. Now rather than being mutated boys, imagine a coven of government witches tasked to make better soldiers who take the restless spirits of deceased infant boys and force them painfully into a homunculus body which horribly disfigures the corporeal form but creates a powerful servant. Now discipline those poor bastards for roughly 20 years into the perfect monster hunter only to discover some damn engineers made better guns during that time, rendering your costly experiment worthless and effectively making every soldier better by virtue of more rugged equipment.
So now you have a redundant super soldier project that won't receive any funding and the only way to recoup your costs is to lease out the remaining 37 survivors as paranormal pest exterminators.
>>5612813
On top of that, somewhere along the way, word got out of what these poor sods are actually made of and the clergy had decided to use them as bogeymen against the sin of adultery and the ills of siring unwanted bastards.
So now the general populace absolutely hates them for theological and social reasons but relies on them to still do the dirty work.
>>5612816
So the reason they wear the masks is because they're disfigured. The bells are rung on the streets so people avoid them like lepers, they were abandoned by their flesh and blood parents, largely neglected by their surrogate magic mothers and effectively property and wards of the state that must still work to earn their keep for a society that largely fears and somewhat reviles them.
So in essence, they're a satire bureaucrats of bureaucracies.
>>5612829
>of bureaucrats and bureaucracies.
My bad.
>>5612834
Can't draw so I build toys of them. As for story, it's something I work on for myself when I have the time and inspiration. This is honestly the first time anyone's asked about them.
It's just a fun creative experiment, I mean why do you think they're so short with the shortest being around the height of a Figma schoolgirl?
Malnutrition is a bitch.
>>5612839
Well, you could still make a comic from your photos. editing in speechbubbles shouldn't be too hard. and your photos absolutely have the quality to pull this off
>>5612884

>>5615237
its only 41cm (16in) LxWxH if you have larger figures its pretty useless
i would save the money and buy a good light with a stand all a backdrop is is just a colored fabric bed sheets work perfectly fine.
my set up is a cardboard box with a white t-shirt over it and a white sheet
>>5615257
All I got are some figmas and SHF, nothing really over 8 inches or so. It's normally $230 so it ought to have good equipment right?
>>5615266
its jsut 2 lights and a tripod.
you can get those for less than 20
>>5615282
Well what type of lights are you talking about?
>>5615266
i agree with >>5615282
just because it is (was) expensive does not mean its amazing. lighting is key and based on the most critical review the lights for that set up are not that great
>>5615289
So what are some good quality lights i can buy?
>>5615289
gonna be posting some pictures from today
>>5615292
what is your budget?

I just use a poster board as a backdrop and two desk lamps with daylight bulbs for my stuff. I like the way things turn out example:

hey thanks, you too. iv'e been looking for feed back, is there anything i could do better?
what kind of camera are you using?
>>5615332
I think all I would do if I were you is try to and more expression to a character. Try putting them in different poses and just experiment with that. Its sometime the smallest change in pose that can make a good picture into a great one.
As for the camera I use its just a galaxy nx camara that I got as a birthday gift last year. Other that that I just use my phone.

LED desk lamps will work. those are cheap.
jsut put paper filters on them for light diffusion
i personally use my camera's flash {diffused} and a secondary flashlight to paint on the illumination.
of course, since i mostly use long exposure, this method might not work with you
>>5615594
Just a quick shot from a couple weekends ago.
>>5615788
An older one. More photo editing than I normally do.
I really need to get more active in here like I used to be.
>>5615799
And an older one.
Do you guys photoshop backgrounds into your pictures or physically take your toys to places and if so, where?
>>5615833
I use real places. Where ever I happen to be. But I don't do it as often as I used to.
Either that or I set up stuff at home. I never photoshop my figures into backgrounds.
>>5615788
Well. The blue sky in this photo was photoshopped in because the sky was just blown out white.
VIDEOGAMES!!
>>5616456
Hows the leg articulation on Aigis? Been wondering since she has those rail like pieces on them
>>5616514
In short: really odd, kinda limiting.
I'll try to explain a bit better: The articulation on her hip is invisible, all the way in. The leg rotates up after some stress (her legs would barely move out of the box but the slightest bit of pressure fixed it).
It gyrates too, in such a way that her "feet" point further inwards (easy to see in promotional pics) but you can also almost pull off a sitting pose if you push the joint to its theoretical limit.
The whole hip feels a bit odd so I don't do many fancy poses with it but it's a lot more flexible than the rail pieces would lead you to believe (the pieces are flexible plastic too so it can adapt to some poses better)
>>5616533
Thanks for the info anon. Been eyeing Labrys for a while and was considering picking her up and wanted to know about their leg movement.
I like improvised with a laptop backdrops
>>5616578
That Labrys looks tops.
I assume the troublesome legs will be a thing with a lot of Parfoms due to their proportions but they are excellent figures nonetheless.
>>5615833
I use my laptop as a background.

>>5619619
>>5619642
Holy shit, that's some nice turnaround.
>>5619647
I like this one way more. The lower angle makes him look bigger, his wings and body aren't as washed out, and the lighting looks a lot more natural. The first one was a little weird because the sky seemed to be dusk but the lighting on the grass made it look like it was midday. How do you feel about him looking straight at the camera though? I think it bugs me a little because he's got such an oddly shaped head, it's still kind of hard to make out the details if you don't already know what he looks like.
Also I love that yoshi shot, what camera do you use?
>>5619647
I would suggest taking multiple photos from different angles. The shadows might work better from some angles and you can get a whole other feel from a picture sometimes. Lights and shadows can be used to make a figure more menacing or make a scene look peaceful and is just complimented by the way a figure is positioned.
>>5619656
danke, but i think the shape of his head is distorted by the light and the angle
the camera im using is a nikon d3300
>>5619657
i usually do take multiple shots but spamming a slightly different picture might piss some people off, so i try to pick the one i think turned out the best (usually based on focus)
the rathalos pic was taken at night and very low light, combined with my not so steady hand turned out ehhhhh

Cool. I'm glad. It was getting really tricky to balance them and still actually bump fists. I guess it just took some rejiggering.
As for the guy wanting to know about Freddie: Its a really fun figure. The shoulders on mine are a bit stiff, and the paint of the eyes on some of the heads are really dull whites, but I am glad I bought him. Not to mention he comes with two microphones, which is a accessory that I rarely see with anything.
I say if you like queen or rock in general pick him up. Its hard to find many musician figures, hopefully it does well so they will make more (David Bowie would be rad).

>>5625753
I haven't used it like you're saying, but back when I did construction I worked with linoleum and vinyl flooring a couple times. It comes on bigass sheets you won't have to put a bunch together like tile, you can find it in a ton of patterns, and it's stiff enough to be durable. Wallpaper comes in a lot of patterns too, but you'd probably have to glue it to something first, otherwise it's a pain to deal with. Try home depot or some place like that.
New thread when?
