Can we talk about roomboxes for a sec?

i want to get one to shoot photos in it and build dioramas. Thing is, this shit is heavily expensive for basically nothing but 3 (or 4) Walls of an empty box.

Do you have a roombox? What did you pay? did you make one yourself? How?

I'm making 2 diorama/box things right now for my detolf shelf.

I've made a bit more progress since this photo but one of my rooms is a traditional Japanese theme. I find making it myself rewarding and fun. Even though I am creative/good with arts+craft shit I've found it a bit difficult.

I'll post some various stuff I've gotten for furniture and accessories. The o jii chan and o baa san re-ment set
>>
>>5609459
thats really good anon! you could sell stuff like this on etsy for a lot of money!
>>
>>5609415

Oh also what scale are you trying to make? I'm making mine for nendos since thats what I have the most of. But its a bit easier to scale things for figma since they go with 1:12 doll house stuff nicely.

If you want to build your own house you can use different materials ofc. My first room was made with cardboard and turned out fine. I used plywood this time since I wanted it to be a bit sturdier. You could probably also use foam board or MDF
>>
>>5609464
I want 1/6 scale stuff for.. Play Arts Kai. (No H8 pls)

i was thinking about cardboard too, but i don't know because, well sturdiness. Plywood seems like a good idea, would be better if i could buy 3 (or 4) already arranged and fixed in the form i need though. a Wooden cube/box, missing one half basically.

Look around at 1/6 doll house stuff. Assembling the box really isnt hard. The hardest part of using plywood is if you dont have a table saw or are not familiar with power tools. (I got a friend to cut it for me because I'm really nervous around power tools).

I think the foam board stuff would be sturdier than cardboard. You can find it at dollar stores and it comes in really big sheets about the size of poster board.

For the plywood I didn't nail it together I just used wood glue. But with the foam board I'm sure you could a glue gun. I used glue gun for the card board diorama.

A good way I think to figure our measurements is looking at already made things such as

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Doll-house-Room-Box-7-Scale-1-6-Pullip-Blythe-Momoko-Monster-High-Barbie-BJD-/291715836648?hash=item43eb9e6ae8:g:OZYAAOSwr7ZW8PrG

Using the measurements as a reference for making your own. Such as it says
Length: 50 cm

Height of Wall: 40 cm

Deep: 40 cm
>>
You can make flooring out of a variety of things. I like to use the popsicle stick method since it adds some real texture. You can wood stain them or paint them too.
Pro tip, the best way I've found to cut them is using a large pair of wire cutters. Way better than scissors.

You can also print odd wood flooring textures, find vinyl flooring, buy actual doll house flooring. Its really up to your imagination and what type of flooring you want.

i'm actually going for an old messed house, a scenery for millitary actually. crushed furniture and stuff. But don't hold back to post the stuff you already do - i can still make good use of it by just weathering it down.

even better would be if i could actually rebuild the interior aesthetics of Mother Base from Metal Gear Solid V, but thats a whole different Genre i guess, i don't know where to get stuff like that.
if i could find something like that, that would be 10/10
>>
>>5609530

Oh freaking awesome ! Thats such a great idea. I'll try to search around for anything suitable but weathering stuff yourself is easy and effective. Wood I think would be easier to weather ofc.

You should totally try to make palettes with some popsicle sticks or something. I got mine from Michaels, like a box of 1000 haha. You could probably find them online to buy too

Oh I just thought instead of cardboard you could also use perforated metal if you can find one with small enough holes. It would also be best to find one that is "cut to size"

>>5609603
Hmmm I'd been thinking of this a bit which is why I posted >>5609539
Are the walls suppposed to be metal as well? Its a bit hard to tell from the image. For the flooring maybe make different sized tiles out of card board or card stock. Make sure they fit together like in the photo, and wrap in a metallic material? Or painting with silver paint could be okay but I would definitely recommend using some black paint with it to make it much darker like how it is here.

Or there is also cut to size metal sheets you could find, and use those for the flooring? You'll definitely want to weather them a bit and hopefully find something for the textured metal. Scrap booking stores might have something with an embossed design.

This is what crafters use it for, making these weird embossing things. But it looks like the product can be weathered, which is good to know.

I've found the old Mcfarlane fishtank boxes to be great for building dioramas, especially if you want to be lazy and just glue a photograph to the back.

Do any of you have one and can tell me about the quality and scale? A lot of the sellers don't have much info on them and a lot of them steal each others pics.
>>
>>5613672
They're very small. Ranging from 1:24 to 1:16 scale. Most of the boxes are only 5 inches high.

I only abuse First Order troopers due to their single jointed elbows. Plus that was my first ever attempt at sculpting/painting. I know it's shitty and terrible. You're right, though. I shouldn't try to customise figures ever again.

I was mainly referring to the roombox situation, though. I might be retarded, but I should be able to make a little house for my figures

Yup, that's me! I haven't finished the pumpkin house, I ran out of steam, sadly. Last thing I worked on was the outer door / stair area.

This pic is old, I painted the base "stone" since I took this, but I haven't done anything else. I think its just frustration in not knowing how to furnish the place as the curved walls and uneven floors make everything look like shit in it, so I'd have to custom make stuff and it seems so daunting.

another shot. i haven't worked on it in so long that the paperclay i bought has already hardened into a big unuseable block. i had wanted to make a kind of ladder or stairs to the second floor on the inside that looked like tree fungus. you know the kind that is like stacked curved discs? maybe one day i'll finish it.

I like the aesthetic, and the weathering makes it look real and lived in. That looks like an actual stone floor.

The uneven floors and curved walls add appeal for me, but it does sound like more of a challenge to furnish. What I can see so far looks nice. Are those "tree stump" dollhouses any inspiration? They tend to have curved walls.

My custom furniture here is pretty basic but wasn't too hard to make. Each one taught me little things on what to do when making the next piece. Miniature books and online blogs often have printable furniture parts diagrams.

This person makes pretty nice furniture from mat board, and the step by step pictures help me get a feel for how it's done.

I get them off eBay mostly. Found a decent lot of 3 for $60 shipped. Sadly, loose lots are rare and most people price gouge for the figure. I've contemplated moving on to fish tanks once I'm done with these remaining three boxes.

This one is from Walmart for roughly the same price.

Exactly! Then you won't have to use tea lights to light up the boxes! Another thing you can consider is making bases for figures you really like if you have a glass cabinet.

These are some WIPS I have up. The one in the right is going to have an aquarium decoration as the centerpiece.

There's myriads of them. Stories of phantom soldiers that caused horses to panic and rout, ghostly saboteurs who clogged up and rotted supplies and ammunition, even a horde of angels that appeared on the battlefield and caused all the guns to stop working. The early 20th century was rife with superstition, and a lot of the old tales are still fascinating as a mirror into the mindset of the past. Ghosts can tell you a ton about a culture; their taboos, fears and even historical guilt. I have a few ghost stories myself relating to WWII from SEA that I enjoy telling to friends from time to time.

I found this thing in my father's garage today.
I'm thinking of turning it into a base/bunker diorama.
A ready room/armory at the top and and a garage for a motorcycle at the bottom.

What colors should I use? Materials for the walls? Details?

South East Asia. A lot of third world countries were rife with superstition prior to the brutality of WWII under the Japanese occupation.

I used to live in a house in Singapore that would have the sliding doors shake at odd hours of the day, and construction workers as well as domestic help used to report seeing phantom figures crouching in the corner of certain room.it wasn't until 3 years ago that I discovered the old house was built on the site of a Japanese POW camp for Briish prisoners that were executed there.

>>5631828
That works. I was thinking an olive drab for the base colour would work well!

I didn't knoe that you are from that region
It is true that brutal events like war leave these kind of spiritual energies haunting many places on what once were a battlefield
