They're releasing singles of what they're now calling Titan Masters. For 5 USD, you get one of these little guys as well as a little vehicle that can transform. The vehicles also have 5mm pegs so bigger guys can use them as weapons.

Arcee is similar to Takara's, but not as geewun, also has a lot of metallic paint. She lacks the guns. She's also mistranformed on the box there, the rear of the vehicle isn't tabbed into her hips.

You know, I usually agree with most of the sentiment here about Takara being better than Hasbro in making their Transformers. But seeing their Shockwave, I realize now that it's not really a competition between the two companies.
Takara has a very specific, very demanding audience that they cater to, while Hasbro's demographics tend to be wider. While TakTom does its best to emulate the cartoon look that their market loves, Hasbro likes to go their own way at times. And that's okay.

Cases like CW wheeljack and TR scourge reflect this, their design despite hollowness is top notch, but the lack of paint with only *just* enough for a g1 toy homage and in TR Scourge's case its not even complete.
But for a western toy market they need to appeal to kids, and because of the price difference (which could be lack of retoolings and paint) they tend to be accepted better especially as a kids gift, for a wiser collector they'd scoff at some of what hasbro is pumping out as of late.
I admit I'm a takara fag, but some of hasbro's offerings work, they just need to break up the color a bit more and more often (the "cannon" g1 headmasters, they look great personally) and I'd happily stick to what local stores sell, frankly I'm seeing too many good molds gathering dust at local shops where's ones that import better stuff don't last 5 minutes

Both Hasbro and Takara can have their hits and misses.
As I said before, I prefer the CW Bruticus set over the UW one, namely because I didn't care much for the brown chest plate on him, or the hand/feet guns for Swindle and Brawl being the same color as the them to emulate the show (though they can easily be replaced by PE hands and feet).
Though the newer Blast Off (or Take Off from Takara?) does look nice, and I'm hoping they release him separately, like what they're doing with Groove.

Overall takara's ones usually have more paint appsand slatherings of paint in general.
Take UW defensor, looked bland, though that chest panel got a shit tone of paint, the ladder bits next to the head are silver rather than silver black, topped with a brighter blue.
The CW actually has less, but...I find the silver and red checks to really work.
I wouldn't mind been proven wrong though, present one hasbro figure that ACTUALLY has more overall paint overall.

The design team stated at Toy Fair that they were making sure that retools were better distributed so that the right characters had the right molds -- after all, it looks like retooling has become a necessity to stave off the lowered budget.
I think we're seeing the result of that already -- all seven of the original Headmasters have different molds from each other, and the one retool we've seen in the Deluxe assortment still works.

Besides, it appears that retools are being saved for bigger classes, and it's workinh there too. They range from a repaint but passable with a new head, to heavy things like Prime from Magnus.
I still thing Alpha Trion is a pretool, but I can't tell for who. Thundertron keeps being mentioned, but he's such a nobody of a character I doubt they'll go back to him. Especially since he didn't even make it into the cartoon. My money is on Lio Convoy.

There's a few I'd give t Hasbro easily, granted it's sparse(though I don't really buy both to compare.) Energon Galvatron was definitely a win over the Superlink one. I think a lot of Classics/Universe toys look better over the Henkei versions, because the chrome looked tacky. barring the obvious exception of Dinobot, of course.
Probably the most notable example recently was Hasbro MP-11 Starscream, because it holds together better than Takara's. Hell, when fucking Powered Convoy/Randy says the Hasbro was the better one, that's saying something, because he's always pro-Takara. Problem is it sold out so fast, good luck finding one at a decent price.
Takara Generations Arcee might be more cartoon accurate, but Hasbro's inclusion of black at the joints creates a much better looking figure.

I thought this, too, but stuff like Generations Waspinator and MP Primal tell me otherwise.
I think the problem is more than BW updates can be more like a lateral movie than a straight improvement, because of how quality tends to ebb and flow in modern figures. Take Transmetals, for example; basically no modern toys have that many paints apps, especially not domestic ones. and then there's engineering issues. Waspinator is really cool, but has terribly limited knees. Rattrap is easily better than the original, but suffers some QC issues.
That said, ultimately a lot of us want more BW stuff simply to be recognized and have more of a franchise that brought us in to the series in the first place. Especially since we've seen countless re-dos of certain G1 characters since it ended. It'd be nice to have a few BW characters that are at least on Jazz or Prowl level, and get toys every few years in different style and incarnations.

Contacting Hasbro sometimes helps in these cases - though understand that their replacements will sometimes be of the "same value" variety, meaning you could be sent a toy from the same assortment but not Shockwave.
Otherwise, keep an eye out for one at retail. I've seen like 3-4 myself and my town is usually slow to get stuff, so you might get lucky.
