For a shitty paintjob, Takara's Computron sure looks nicer than Hasbro's. And I'm not even a geewunner, I couldn't care less if the toy is super-accurate to the cartoon or whatever. In fact I don't care jack shit about Computron, but Takara's just looks more pleasing to the eye.
They also bothered to remold the combiner chest, head and other things so it looks different than Superion, that also makes it way better than Hasbro's weird colored Superion with other limbs.

As much as I hate to admit it, the Hasbro version looks better due to the color distribution. Takara has the better molds, but colors for most of them are just slightly different shades of red, while Hasbro broke them up by using a light red, orange, ruby red, and red Crayola or Munsel for the chest. The blues peppered here and there also make a world of difference.

Takara Computron is basically a Hasbro toy on a Takara budget, so I don't feel bad about liking it. Lightspeed's non-slavishly-cartoon headsculpt and differentiated reds, Computron's head... it reads as a Hasbro designer - whose motivations tend to be "what'll look good and be interesting" rather than "what'll be as much like the G1 cartoon as possible" - getting the freedom to play around with a higher budget.

So Botcon Megatron has one more glaring issue that's being glossed over; he has the wrong spark crystal. Instead of a PRedacon one, he has a Beast Machines Dinobot triceratops skull. This isn't completely unexpected, since for whatever reason it seems most spark crystals since Beast Machines ended have just been painted over Dinobot ones. However this one isn't painted over, thus giving him a blatantly wrong faction.
Its not hopeless, though; you can replace the spark crystal if you wish, you just need to have a donor to give up their spark crystal.

Am I the only one who prefers Hasbro Blurr over Takara Blurr? I dunno why, I think it's cuz my first introduction to Blurr's character was Animated and I'm used to him mostly being light blue and cyan instead.
Obviously, Hasbro still needs some paint, but I prefer the deco.

Yeah, I had high hopes this would get me back into Transformers but aside from maybe Takara versions of Skullcruncher and Weirdwolf this looks like a total bust. They've already crushed my hope with Apeface. I doubt they'll do Snapdragon which sucks.

Trying to make the new shit look like those is silly. What we never got were "show perfect" toys. So...make that. It's a gap that needs to be filled.
I guess "toy accurate" is all they can afford to do since even the old stuff was obviously made to come under some sort of budget limitation. It's just the best way they can spin it, I suppose. Or maybe it's the best way to offer their own unique take with what they can actually do. I don't know, but even so, it'd be nice if the color schemes were closer to each other across the board.

Because the last Blurr they released was an IDW one more or less. This one is more traditionally G1 styled, and in Hasbro's case, they keep going with the toy colors for all of their recent releases, probably because Takara is doing show colors.

Some people want the old toys updated in the old colors. Like Hasbro Bruticus, because I really dislike the cartoon color scheme. Or Hasbro Defensor, because UW Defensor was a mess of poor color choices.
When I like a cartoon deco better (Menasor, Superion, Computron), I get those. I'll be getting Takara Blurr for sure, but Hasbro Hardhead since I really liked the toy colors and faceplate, for example.

There's no point in making it cartoon accurate when it's not even around anymore. And let's not forget the toys were first and the cartoon fucked with colors, not the other way around. It makes more sense to go with toy colors in most cases where it doesn't matter what shade of color the toy is.
Extreme examples though, like Galvatron, where the color has been so identified with the character, it definitely makes more sense in that case not to go total original toy.

You're right actually, I had to check their product listing but Steelcore and Assaulter were 2012, but that was pretty much all they released that year.
2014 had Revolver and Sigma L, which I liked but everything else sucked. I'll still say you're right though. I think the only reason they were ever considered "good" is because they were one of the first that became popular, not because what they offered was actually good.

To be fair, how many people have you seen complaining about the dull but cartoon accurate decos on the UW bots? They get priased because they have the original members, but the dull decos on most of the stunticons, Hot Spot, and others haven't gone unmentioned, and for the same reason people are disliking Blurr: That deco might be accurate, but it doesn't look that good.
Now, if they were to actually PAINT it blue, rather than just cast it blue plastic, the inhand look might help it out, but Im not sure they're willing to go that far for it.

Bare plastic usually isn't just going to come off with time, man. Paint will. Same with rubber tires, chrome, diecast deforming or getting 'cosmic rust', etc.

The ideal is that the molding is in multiple smaller parts and change color accordingly for where it needs to and paint is for flat details such as racing stripes or screens.
