He's based on an April Fools' design, iirc. People liked it, they decided to make a new figure.
Also, D-arts X is pretty much perfect. Expensive now, but there's definitely a good figure of X and no reason to make another

I'm glad they made it though, I loved the design and love the figure. For me, the D-Arts figures have always been bad. I've owned each of the characters multiple times, trying to convince myself they were good. The best I ever got was Vile.
The arms were always super fiddly and would fall off easily. The upper arms construction was weird and the elbow would never work properly, with the upper arm piece getting stuck one way or another.
The Truforce Megaman definitely nailed the coffin for me, I can die knowing that I found at least one Megaman figure that was worth it.
There was mention of a Ride Chaser coming next with artwork being shown.

My X is perfect, but man Type 2 Zero was a mess. Type 1 was fine, if not for the shitty hair design (that Bandai still didn't bother to really fix on the next Type).

Oh man I fucking love the figure even if it is a bit stylized and too tall.
It's a nice redesign, but it's not what I want from Megaman X design-wise if I was going to own a figure.
I would like something that holds together better than the D-arts figure though.
To everyone that wants the d arts vile just a heads up, he's got issues especially with his gun leg but the worst part is that the ammunition belt that is supposed to feed into his shoulder cannon goes in perpendicular instead of parallel. Therefore the casings load sideways into the breach instead of how a gun normally loads.
Worst design choice ever, damn japs.

I think the worst problem with the Vile figure is the pegs that plug the cannons into the backpack feel fragile as hell, I'm terrified of snapping them, like Zero's hair connector did.
My favourite figures in my collection. I would love if they redid classic or original armor X with their engineering. I hate to say it while the D-Arts line looks good. In terms of engineering and playability all of them are fucking terrible. I think vile is the only one I dont have issues with.

i really like him too, but please, those hips are absolute shit.
besides that, mine's right arm swivel tends to get stuck after not touching him for a while and it scares the fuck out of me when i want to move him, and also the tip of the buster likes to pop off.
it would have been great if bandai fixed some of these flaws with a renewal version, and add the pull down hips for him; it's not like they have to make too many changes, vile has hose hips after all

artistic thing, zero 3 final boss is zero's original body, and it was just a darker version of the same sprite of zero with red eyes and saber.
i'm still surprised bandai didn't go for a figuarts omega, it was the easiest repaint one could imagine, hell he could have included the tonfas for regular zero as a way to boost interest

Interestingly enough, in Japan this sort of thing is not considered inherently gay.
Recently on a college exchange for a year, I witnessed a number of my roommates cuddling on a bed in numbers up to 6. These men were strictly hetero as I myself am gay, so I had to ask. As well, it was not uncommon for them to get drunk and suddenly appear naked, escaping out a window and running around, then realizing that the front door to our dorm room was locked.

I sold my D-arts X after getting this superior figure. Granted, they were both awesome figures. pretty much the only D-arts that had no flaws...but it was blown the fuck just near the doorway by Truforce's extra panels, articulation and light-up buster. He's taller than D-arts Zero, but that only bothers me a teensy bit.
