I did try that, but it just split again when I inserted anything into it. I even tried using heat to literally melt the plastic back together and it still split apart.
In the end I returned the set. They were bros about it though and refunded me no questions asked.
For what it's worth, I tried inserting the pegs on the Nonnef feet into a third party figure (FP Swindle) and an older, more solidly constructed Hasbro figure (can't remember which) and while the fit was tight, there weren't even stress marks.

V has been a foot for several weeks now as I'm lazy and haven't reverted Bruticus to his 'normal' form after wanting to see what Brawl's arm mode looks like (it looks hollow as fuck).

I think the stress comes a lot from when you have to rotate or tilt the HFG while it's in the socket. I feel like you're taking fewer risks by using it as an arm as long as you're not giving it a weapon to hold, but I could be wrong.

Personally I shaved the HFG peg quite a bit, and it STILL fits really securely in all the 5mm holes on him. I think the original dimensions are just too much for the thin plastic port.

To be fair, Scoop wasn't all that great. His arms have articulation issues(shoulders make his arm articulation worse and, no wristh swivels when he actually needed them,) and (at least on mine) his vehicle mode barely held togheter.

Weak articulation in bot mode. Elbows and knees are gimped. Coupled with the lack of a neck joint, it makes him a weak poser. The alt. mode isn't cool enough to make up for these shortcomings. Although if you're going to get the Takara Prime/Bee 2-pack, the gold paint makes him pretty, at least.
