I'm excited for Astrotrain. I wasn't the right age for G1 so I knew nothing about him minus the one time I saw the movie on a bad copy from blockbuster, but I got the classics and love everything about it.

Now I'm just flat out hyped for this one. And I am glad they're going with the color scheme. I like the white. Makes him stand out on a decepticon shelf.
>>
>>5567737
I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I hope one of the base-bots can function as a docking station for either of his modes.
>>
>>5567737
>>5567749

I prefer the white to the darker grey as well. Like you said, stands out more.
>>
>>5567749

>Three fucking years of zero light piping, our only chance denied

>>
>>5567757
It's a fun but useless feature. It's not like there's a real issue.
>>
>>5567757

I don't like light piping honestly. Unless they're backlit or have a really strong light overhead all that really happens is they end up looking as dead-eyed as '86 movie Optimus laying cold and lifeless on the slab in Perceptor's room.

I'd rather they just paint the eyes in bright colors.
>>
>>5567757
Only faggots care about light piping
>>
>>5567762
Yeah but in terms of nostalgia value for those of us that aren't 80s kids, nothing beats it. Late Beast Wars and such it was such a prevalent feature and brought some toys to life in a wicked way. And considering stuff like the exclusive Black Convoy with the bicep piping bringing a ton of life to it, feels like a waste.
That and I think it can be agreed that alot of CW figures like Dragstrip, Vortex and other guys with either huge visors or unconventional eyes could benefit a ton from it.

I'm a beast wars kid and even I don't care. Yeah it's cool and fun, but pointless and useless. Its cool if it's there and no loss of its not.

Why is he a cuck?

The autismo/aspergo memes were to represent the community, seeing how its fucking bullshit to get a decent mega/galvatron figure, and with each one we've gotten we've nit picked it to death.

So why is he a cuck, is it because he didn't bone arcee?

What if takara decides to release the improved versions of hands and feet individually to complete with third parties/hasbro gift box sets much like the clear stands?

Would anyone buy it?

To me personally I'm a tight ass, the stock handfoot guns do 3 things in one and do what I need out of them, if I wanted more articulation I'd go for the third party ones, their hands look so much better and offer more options.

If anything getting the set types much like victorion's on their own will just be a poor second best considering how shite they are, but that's just me.

>inb43rdpartyshill

Just stating facts, you either be happy with whatever you get (hasbro or takara respectively) or you go all out.

Besides knowing our luck, buying the "official" deluxe hands would be handled as a takara online exclusive, meaning middle man fees.

I saw the FB post on TFND.
I'm not feeling it. It can't be the takara version for TRU doesn't carry Takara TFers. If it is a general (global) release, we have not see any factory or official package shot yet. And last, the description is very vague. The mug is clearly stated, but for the deluxe, it only says limited deluxe- there is not description as to what deluxe figure might be.
>>
>>5568108
Ah, so we're on the same page, literally.

Well it...could be possible, not sure how tru's link together internationally but here in Australia our stores once had UW superion (but for $400aud no one cared and was limited stock), movied advanced stinger, and a few takara mp's (ultra magnus, star saber, side swipe, tracks and soon roadrage).

>it only says limited deluxe- there is not description as to what deluxe figure might be

While a miss wording/mis-print is possible, who...else could it be, the 2 previous aerial bot and stunticon exclusives?

When it says limited and deluxe it really does narrow it down.

I'm 100% certain if you guys DO end up getting groove I'm dead certain we down under won't see shit like the last 2 exclusives.

Also while seibertron reports this groove to be the UW, the post I took it from (which seibertron linked to) did say CW...a cw exclusive groove would fit better.

We can only wait and see, IF it turns out to be true I hope you and others can help us acquire one somehow, not that you have to.

Pretty sure the scalpers would beat us

Robots in Disguise 15/16 is the current media tie-in line.

Combiner Wars is the current "G1 redone" line, which Classics, Universe, Generations fall under. It will transition into the Titan Returns line soon.

So what's the gimmick with that line? Are they just focusing on the Combiners like the Constructicons, Combaticons and such or is it a full Generations line like we had back in the early 2010s?

I may be retarded but the naming conventions for Transformers lines have always fucked with me and I can't tell what's a gimmick line and what isn't.
>>
>>5568013
>I wonder, did people like him or is it bumblebee syndrome?
Cheetor was the bumblebee of Beast Wars.

Rattrap wasn't really pushed. He was the shady one of the group. Not that he was a bad character. It's one of those that you don't really appreciate until you watch the show later in life and understand his character that you like him.
>>
>>5568135
You can still check out the older generations toys, ebay, amazon can help (look for second hand) or mandarake/amiami for the japanese versions, some of these including the classics line are the best for non-gimmicky transformer toys.

Hard to say, you seem to know how the deal is with mp's (which are great, the smaller ones are more affordable), you got the current media tie in with the Robots in disguise line, cheap in all aspects but they aren't bad if you just want something cheap that looks ok, if you really need that nostalgia hit the current combiner wars/titan wars lines would better suit despite heavy gimmick nature.

Pretty sure you can find the RiD stuff in shops easy enough and some for combiner wars, take a look in local shops, and or look up a review and see if it works, mind you depending on where you are the japanese counterpart of the combiner wars (unite warriors) may work out cheaper and easier since its a complete box set of bots that can...combine.

And to answer>>5568173 combiner wars is pretty much stuff like the aerial bots and constructicons who combine into each other, titan masters when it comes out is about tiny dudes who turn into their robot heads.

If you're iffy about gimmicks being non-cannon then stick to what floats your boat, some will be cannon (aerial bots into superion, hardhead being a titan master) and others will not (optimus prime into optimus maximus, blur being a titan master), its all subjective
>>
>>5568135

We're in a bit of a transitional period. Combiner wars is ending, and the next line, Titans Return, is going to start around July-September.

My recommendation is to get a Gift set of Combiners to see how you feel about them. Unite Warriors are the Japanese releases with cartoon accurate decos (for better and for worse) and have a whole gestalt team. If you aren't turned off by their garish color schemes, Hasbro has some boxsets of G2 themed toys. The colors are all over the place, but it includes a whole five-man team plus a legends guy and in some cases is cheaper than UW. Pic related is considered the strongest overall team, but Menasor and Bruticus are also getting 90's releases.

If none of those guys float your boat, Titans Return is the next CHUG line, this time with transforming heads. If you can find a generations Brainstorm, get him and see how you like the gimmick. All figures from all classes except legends will have it.

Otherwise, there was a pastebin from a long time ago with a bunch of recommended figs. Someone will hopefully post it. Getting those will be better than sticking to a line you have no interest in.

Continuing on the Groove topic

Someone with better eye sight pointed it out that the DM says "玩具反斗城搶先贈送"
Basically, TRU is being the first is giving "this" out. (As I said before it does not say what "this" is.)
This raised the Groove possibility by a lot. But there are still problems as pointed out here >>5568108 and >>5568127
And if it is Groove, and TW's TRU being the first then we can safely assuming it is coming to rest of the world as either normal release or simple exclusive TRU giveaway release.

Personally, I don't care for Groove, but it can be nice additional for getting that TRU exclusive MP starscream. But I got to convince myself in getting SS for the full retail price ($110 usd) instead of later discount price (80).

The absolute best place to start right now would be deciding what you want. Good places to look would be MP-10 onward if you're looking for collectors grade pieces, or Combiner Wars stuff if you want toy grade.

I started collecting recently myself, and my collection bloomed pretty hard thanks to CW offering tons of my absolute favorites from childhood, like Superion, Menasor, Bruticus, etc.

Also grab yourself a Generations Springer no matter what. Amazing fucking figure and usually not that bad price-wise, still around $24-30, and on release he was $24.
>>
>>5568274
Hasbro's is also coming with new hands and feet, while Takara's is getting the standard handfootguns.
>>
>>5568288

I really don't care about the hands/feet, since I just get the PE ones. Hasbro MIGHT at best save me the cash on that but when getting combiners I now just add it to the overall cost. Love those hands/feet.

What I do care about is what each set is gonna offer. We know what we're getting with Hasbro, but Takara's still showing it's "LOCKED FIGHTING GAME CHARACTER" bullshit so I can't decide until I see real pictures of it.

Problem is how they'll go about those cartoon colors. If he's just going to be 90% red plastic/paint with nothing to break up the details like UW Defensor was with blue, then Computron is going to look terrible. Remolds or no, if your color scheme looks like ass, it looks like ass.

Hasbro's version already looks decent in terms of color. But Takara, well...Their love of cartoon only deco sometimes backfires on them, because cartoon colors for some bots is fucking atrocious. G1/CW Bruticus for example, his toy colors were so much better than show, so I went for him over the Takara show colors. Same with Defensor, Hasbro won that one, hard.

One of my gripes with the current "betatron" was the metallic plastic retaining the swirls >>5568274, I'd be fine with flatter colors.

As for bruticus that's purely opinion, the chest is one grey slag, takara's broken that up with 3, THREE colors, the weakest point would be the shins, shared with defensor...

Defensor was a fair point with all that molded detail lost, bruticus made up in other areas.

That said I'm going to own both, also >>5568316 is right.

I'm also speculating on hasbro's release, that new detail on the sides of the chest, they look like stickers and not tampos judging by the obscured panel lines.

That doesn't help

So from what I understand, Combiner Wars and Titans Return are just sub-lines of the still ongoing Generations relaunch in 2012, and only SOME of the figures are actually Combiners? Do I have that right?

I loved the Generations line back in the earlier 2010s but didn't really have a chance to pick too many up and now the line's pretty huge. Is there a fast breakdown of what toys from that line are/aren't worth it?

Pretty much but gimmick infused, whatever is the going trend all deluxes will follow the gimmick, no exceptions.
>and only SOME of the figures are actually Combiners
In combiner wars, only leaders and some legends were excluded, all voyagers became torsos, all deluxes became limbs, some legends because additional weapons or armor.

>Fucking Warpath was my grail back in like 2011-12 and I never got ahold of one, now he's like $50
There is a cw one that was a remold of the legends megatron, but if I were you find that holy grail via ebay auctions, sooner or later you'll get him.

As for the titan returns line, they're basically headmasters, ALL deluxes voyagers and leaders have the head gimmick, the legends...are excluded partially, partially because some like wheelie allow them to be ridden.

Pretty much anything generations now aims at g1 fans, but they cram the lines with a gimmick, time will tell what the next one after might be

Almost all of the figures in CW are made to combine. All of the Deluxes are ,ade to turn into limbs, all of the Voyagers are made to turn into the center part. Some Legends in CW have gun/chest plate alt modes in addition to their regular alt modes. Like Legends Groove turns into a bike, chest armor, and a robot. Powerglide turns into plane, robot, and a gun. Etc.

For the CW stuff, you can't really go wrong with getting the original combiners. Superion and Bruticus are probably the strongest two offerings in terms of sheer stability and looks. Defensor is in the middle. Menasor is the weakest of them, since he's both top-heavy and has a weird looking waist without a 3rd party addon kit.

However, due to scalping fuckwads, it might be cheaper to get the UW version (aka: Japanese sets) of the CW combiners, because some figures in the US were scalped like a motherfucker due to being retarded online exclusives.

Got excited for a second, then realized it was Takara. There's zero chance of Hasbro doing anything for the anniversary, is there?

Oh, and Generations Springer is probably one of the most "WORTH IT" figures around. Cheap and great all around.
>>
>>5568337
>>5568339

But I prefer to get Rook as a limb instead of Groove! I wanted to get Groove as a limb I'd get the Unite Warriors release!

Besides, this will probably scalp my wallet so bad that I can't get every figure I want for Defensor!

Unrelated side bar: Would it be cheaper to get Quickslinger, Silverbolt, and Air Raid from Hasbro directly and the rest of the team from the Wave 1 pack or would I end up murdering my wallet?

Gen. Whirl and Roadbuster are pretty cheap usually, though Roadbuster might have some issues from what some Anon's have said. CW Ultra Magnus is also a great figure, but his hands are usually pretty shit at holding his weapons during movement, so pose him THEN put the weapons in his hands.

This also might help it.
>>
>>5568388
Good to hear as well. IDW and WfC/FoC are probably my favorite iterations of "G1"

Speaking of which, are there trade paperbacks of the IDW comics? Or an Omnibus or something?
>>
>>5568389
Several trades, omnis and collections that should make getting hard copies for your shelf relatively easy.
>>
>>5568389

Actually, I recently got into collecting the comics myself. You want The IDW Collection volumes if you want to get into the comics.

Nice, big, fat 300-400 page hardcover collections. Theres currently 11 volumes, 1-8, and then 1-3 of phase two. Start with the original volumes, obviously, if you're interested.
>>
>>5568389

Amazon has good prices on most IDW Transformers collections
>>
>>5568394

Do they cover everything? I assume so if there's 11 damn volumes.
>>
http://tfnd.net/xf/index.php?threads%2Ftakaratomy-masterpiece-mp-29-destron-laserwave-shockwave.36667%2F
>>
>>5568396

Yeah, they're normally like $50 a pop, Amazon has'em around 30-40 depending on volume.

Shop around for Roadbuster and Whirl, I've seen'em as low as $10 each, and given they're Voyagers (MSRP $24) of not really popular characters, well, most places are tripping over themselves to get them out of their warehouses where they're eating up space.

>>5568400

They cover a lot, but IDW is still pumpin' out comics so the collection volumes will always be behind somewhat. Vol. 3 of phase 2 just came out this month, actually.

Thats still a shitton of reading material though, the average volume seems to be around 350 pages.

Really, they should have put a block of cheese in a BB's package.

Oh wait shit, nevermind, found him for fairly cheap. Nice.

Hows Swerve? Found a Cosmos+Swerve set for pretty cheap.
>>

Swerve is very fun if you don't mind a simple transformation and his shit-eating grin.
I love him but I know that bothers some people.
>>
>>5569614
Swerve is passable. Head can't turn from side to side, transformation is boring, and no leg swivels so posing is pretty limited for anything extreme.

Shiteating grins are usually a plus, unless poorly done.

he's ok
nothing to write home about

>Two button cell batteries and two AAA.
jesus so what all lights up on him if it requires that many batteries ?
>>
>>5569645
That's what I was wondering as well.
The location of the chest batteries doesn't make sense if they also power the led in the forearm
>>
>>5569625
And I forgot to mention that his arms are so day and stubby that his targetmaster looks awful when used by him.
>>
>>5569646
the AAA is for the gun mode.
The cell battery only power the forearm

Isn't it the same light source?
>>
>>5569656
Yes and NO.
The hand cannon light is facing the right way.
But the size of the thing, you can't get it light up that brightly with the hand cannon light only, hence the 4 AAA batteries.
