The front wheels. The post of the arms literally goes right into the side of the wheel. No way is that rolling.

It looks like a split wheel though where the piece on the outside of the tire moves, but the rim does not. Also the other wheels obviously move.

Looks looks like a very playable figure from this preview. Nice non-fiddly transformation and a lot of poseability in combined form.

They look different enough that I con't mind having both.

The preview videos make TA look like a solid figure. My worry with the Takara one is that it will be fiddly and fragile, and end up being a display-only piece. TA look like something you can safely mess with a lot.

So how well do Munitioner and Explorer hold up when played with? I just ordered a set and I'm the type of guy who likes to play with his TFs.

Especially if it's Swindle.
>>
>>5568880
i don't mind the idea of some third party aoe-style dinobots but that botmode looks like shit. crappy articulation from the looks of things too - no waist, wrists, possibly ankles.
>>
>>5568936
they're quite nice. I like Swindle more but Blast off is more poseable in his shoulders. only real problem is their backpacks dont peg in anywhere

i think i'll still use FP Swindle as my main swindle when UW Bruticus comes out. I hear the new Swindle mold is the biggest of all the new combaticon limbs, which doesnt sit right with me

So they won't break in half or anything?

This will literally be my first third party purchase, and I'm kinda nervous about breaking them. They LOOK miles better than anything Hasbro has put out recently, though.

I've gone through like five different reviews and they and their accessories look solid as fuck. But I wanna be sure before I start transforming them ten times and shit.

Also Swindle a best.

Thinking of a few 3P things, guys. Anyone own and can comment on the following?

Iron Factory's City Commander, Miko (Not-Windblade), and Evil Lord

MMC's Feral Rex

That DX9 War in the Pocket Galvatron/Cyclonus/Scourge
>>
>>5569046
The legends guys are great, Iron Factory especially.

The DX9, wait for the new three pack on pre-order as a one or two of the molds have updated articulation.

MMC's Feral Rex is great quality, but comes down to preference of your Predaking. I own it, it's nice, but man are his limbs thick.
>>
>>5569046

>City Commander
One of my favorite figures. Beware the pegs (at least on the first run) are EXTREMELY tight, I had to sand a few parts down to make it transform properly. Worth every penny though.

>Miko
Really fun little toy, get it. The boobs are just as awkward in person as they are in photos, but both modes are well executed and it has a lot of articulation for its size.

>DX9 Galvatron/Cyclonus/Scourge
Scourge is nice, it's a shellformer by nature but it's a solid and poseable figure. I actually just sold Galvatron/Cyclonus, Galvatron is fine but the Cyclonus mold has problems. The nosecone is floppy as fuck in jet mode and the poseability is deceptively limited... BUT, the 3-pack you're asking about added thigh swivels so that should be a major improvement.
>>
>>5569070
>wait for the new three pack

Yeah, thats why I was curious about them. They seem more reasonably priced per figure, but how are they in scale? Do they fit in with Legends figures well enough, or are they a bit smaller/bigger?

I know Not-Magnus and Not-Overlord are bigger than normal. Do they come with the usual ridiculous amount of extra guns and shit IF is known for? Are the pegs on them 5mm so they can be shared with damn near any other figure, or what?
>>
>>5569078

I'd probably go for the classic color version, since I already have a CW Magnus and he's got the regular white legs, so having a lil' mini-Magnus in original toy colors with the red legs appeals to me. Does it also have the peg problems, or was it fixed by the time they made the recolor?
>>
If you had to choose:

Quakeblast
Or
Leonidas?
>>
>>5569112
Quakeblast, hes solid and a ton of fun to pose. Leonidas is realy cool looking, but an absolutely mess to handle. One of those figures where you cant touch it without 3 parts falling off.
>>

Leonidas is the prettiest piece of shit ever.

Quakeblast has the Official MP as competition.
>>

>>
>>5569284
I went with Quakeblast, I just prefer the proportions, the chest light, and the price is like almost half of Quakewave

I'm not a fan of the MP
>>
>>5569618
Honestly, the proportions of both Quakewave and Quakeblast wound up looking off to me after I saw the MP. That and I just didn't like the look of the legs and feet of either of them. I'm still not a big fan of the transformation bits in MP Shockwaves thighs (looks like they're formed by several pieces folding together) but that's one smaller nitpick compared to a few (subjective) faults on the other two.

As cool as it looks, I feel like these are wasted potential. Imagine if they did this as a Deluxe or Voyager sized figure. They already look good as Legends, but I'm certain they'd do so much better at a larger size with more detail/etc
>>
>>5570320
DX9 is making a full-size Blitzwing. Gewalt(?), or something like that.
>>
>>5570320
Fortunately there are enough people that disagree with that sentiment for IF to continue producing Legends scale figures.

What a lot of people don't understand is that the "possibility" of sales does not outweight -actual- sales. They have an entire market cornered and they are making a ton of money off of it compared to other scales. Why fight for a market share when they could have all of it?

> b.. but DX9 does Legends...
Please, if you honestly think those crappy looking figures are actual competition, you are sorely mistaken. DX9 does nothing to stand up to or surpass IF, their release schedule alone is enough to sink them in the Legends market.
>>
>>5570251
Should we even bother keeping bullsfire on the list, they've clearly dropped out.
>>
>>5570320
>Imagine if they did this as a Deluxe or Voyager sized figure.

Im sure we will see an oversized KO at some point.
>>
>>5570443
>oversized KO's

Urgh. Prepare for heads hilariously wrongly sized compared what they should be and McDonalds toy-tier plastic. Also pisses me off at times when this happens too.

>want a cheap, normal sized Feral Rex
>lol fuck you, have something with heads 3x the size what they should be, a giant monster where you wanted normal size, and shit tier plastic

I'd rather a downsized CW Devastator to fit in with the rest of the CW/UW shit than most stuff. Anything bigger is too big.

Your concerns are valid, and I prefer Iron Factory at its current scale, but there's more than one way to KO a toy.

Wei Jiang added transformation bits for the shoulder panels and tires, added hand and toe articulation, and designed a ton of new film-accurate accessories. The paint job speaks for itself.
>>
The same designer is also pretty much re-doing Hound and it doesn't partsform at all (new design on the left, original oversized KO on the right)
>>
>>5570489
I still want a Rusty version.
>>
>>5570493
>it doesn't partsform at all

I'm actually a bit surprised people don't bitch about the IF stuff with all the partsforming it usually has.

Hell, a lot of 3P stuff seems to partsform at times. Not that I care about it, as long as it's not G1 Seeker-tier where literally fucking everything is partsforming and if you lost any part you'd be boned.

So, my crossfire set came in today. For the record, I bought them used with the ROTF Bruticus set.

One of the small tabs on the missile pod that connects to Blast Off seems to be broken, but it still holds well enough. The whole set is really well designed in general, so I guess I have to say I'm glad this was my first third party purchase. Most of the issues I find with this thing are the result of the official bots, especially Onslaught. Onslaught is kind of a mess, although I will say the issues regarding the Bruticus head in robot mode seem exaggerated. I just turned the head around and the backpack folds in so much better.

The joints on Blast Off and Swindle are really tight. It's really hard to fold Swindle's legs out, since it's pegged in so well in vehicle mode. It's also really easy to pop off the feet by accident when tilting them, but otherwise no problems. I fucking love these guys. I fucking love this set. No regrets.

Also giving Bruticus dual shotguns was the best fucking idea ever.
>>
>>5570567
wait for the final result of the combiner. TFC is wildly inconsistent with their combiners. It looks promising so far, but wait for all 6 to come out and see the reviews and go from there.
>>
>>5570703

Welcome to the world of 3P

Fanstoys, MakeToys, and MMC are generally considered some of the top tier companies.

For me, Fansproject's recent releases haven't had the same charm or quality as their older stuff.

Usually good to try and read reviews before purchase unless you trust the company though.

Enjoy.

Welcome to the ride. You never get off.

The Crossfire set pretty much feels really dated compared to the standard third party stuff today so its good that you like it. I don't think Fansproject have outdone themselves with another kit that good. Also you can totally pop off Onslaught's head and wiggle it in to make it fit better in the backpack. It allows it to close flush on mine.
>>
>>5570489

I love the fuck out of that thing.

How'd you make the eyes light up?
>>
>>5570793
Planet X and Iron Factory are considered pretty top tier as well.
>>
>>5570793
how is Unique Toys generally regarded?
>>
>>5570955

They're the same company as DX9, their Blurr and Octane figures have good reputations. Involved and innovative transformations, not too many greebles, solid and fun quality.
>>
>>5570955
Unique toys is mostly good. Their abominus is top notch, though the most of the individual figures are kind of boring, Troll and Siegfried are wonderful and the rest are cool looking and good enough.

Warlord is pretty shit. The combined mode looks pretty good and very studio ox, but it partsforms an absurd amount and the individual bots are barely hasbro quality. Not worth the 50 per.

Pretty much everything they've releases since Mania King is awesome. Anything before that be careful about.

>>5570434
>Please, if you honestly think those crappy looking figures are actual competition, you are sorely mistaken

I've been sitting with these guys in my cart for two days now. Should I pull the trigger? They look pretty cool, Vulcan looks fucking badass, even if he's not especially faithful to Hotspot, design-wise (though he still evokes the idea of Hotspot. I only hope he comes with a blue head accessory), and Guardia looks great, especially with the new head.

Does anybody have them? What are the pros and cons about each of them? How have Maketoys's other combiner teams held up in combined mode? Do they hold together solidly and pose well or are they fiddly and come apart often if you try to pose them in anything that's not straight A-stance?
>>
>>5571482
Oh, also if anybody could give some size comparison shots of them with some deluxes and voyagers, preferably anything from CHUG, that would be super cool too.

Also, does every IF toy come with a modular weapon set, like the one from the above kit?

Well, the red guy can be turned into 2 guns for anyone with 5mm pegs from what I've read, so they do have a use even without Metroplex, since then they become extra weapons+a lil' tank dude, which is alright for the price I guess.

I don't think every toy comes with that weapons set, but a lot of them do. I *think* NotOverlord is one of the ones that doesn't come with the billion extra weapons, dunno about NotMagnus.

Hmm...Would that end up being scale accurate with the upcoming Liokaiser and MP Starsaber? Lio's a gestalt so he's supposed to be huge, and Starsaber's pretty big too right?
>>
>>5573047
It'd be cool if the armor could b a battle station when not in trailer or armor mode, or maybe an armory at least? I'm sure we could fanmode something if not.
>>
>>5573150
It'd be cool if Iron Factory released some sort of mini-base/armory where we could holster all the extra weapon sets you get and maybe have placements for the dual turret dude
You know, for those who don't have Metroplex
>>
>>5573061
Liokaiser and Star Saber are the same height, I think.
>>
Have there been any rumors about a Liokaiser besides TFC's?
>>
Has anyone here actually bought FP Dinoking? I've heard fuckall about it and the components have been coming out for a while now.
>>
>>5573047
Y'know what I LOVE? the fact that God Ginrai's head is different from normal Prime. That's something that always annoyed me with the original God Ginrai and Victory Saber, and was later rectified in the Brave series by the same designer
>>
>>5573416
Parts are good so far. Usual FP plastic quality. Basic transformations. Kakuryu had an issue with the springs in his knees being too tight, but one only needed to pop them open and give the springs a snip if they were too tight or else they'd snap two little prongs in the knee joint. Shells are fuck huge and expensive, but made of strong vinyl plastic and painted nicely.

Nice for what you get and will probably look great with all the shells, but that is a lot of cash to throw about. The inner bots will probably go on sale eventually.
>>
>>5573061
>>Hmm...Would that end up being scale accurate with the upcoming Liokaiser and MP Starsaber
Noo, not at all. In Liokaiser's first appearance, God Ginrai had to save Star Saber because he was gonna die, and he did this by using a german suplex on Liokaiser (not making this up), so they're of similar size. Maybe the new Leader Ginrai will work.

>>5573351
I wish, I like TFC's but I want one thats more anime, a Maketoys Liokaiser would be nice. and we know Maketoys aint adverse to competing with TFC
>>

>>
>>5573804
Assuming they don't do a Prometheus and make them Scramble City. In an ideal world of course they'd all be able to form an arm, leg or weapon for Piranacon but I can't see that happening.
>>
>>5568967
Only warning is that the plastic used to make Swindle, while incredibly tough for normal play, will get ground down. The rachet that makes the knee joint in mine turned to knurled dust after a few years. Gears just wore down to nothing and I had to thicken it into a swivel.
Great besides that though, I honestly think that Blastoff is more worth it than Bruticus itself.
>>
>>5568967
The combined mode of Bruticus, whilst awesome looking, suffers from floppy shoulders (at least on my copy of the toy) and a tonne of partsforming. Swindle and Blastoff are great though, some loose joints aside. Swindle is definitely my favourite, though Blastoff is definitely a fun toy.
>>
>>5573812
Prometheus was scramble cityable? Neat.
I prefer dedicated limbs though.
>>
Hey /toy/, I'm probably going to pick up some IF figs. Problem is, I am not made of money.

Thinking of Evil Lord as a definite buy, but I might want a second figure, preferably one with the extra guns sets just so my other figures have weapons as well due to it all being 5mm pegs.

So what, in your opinions, are the best sets? I've been looking at their Ultra Magnus, as well as the Perceptor/Soundwave one, Blaster, and the Turret set.
>>
>>5573812
Yeah, which begs the question, who is going to be stuck as the weapon, in that case? No matter what, somebody is going to be unhappy that their favorite Seacon got the shittiest mode in the gestalt. Or, they might even just straight up cut one of them and make pretty much everybody angry, and at this point, it's either Nautilator or Tentakil, both of which would suck to lose.
>>
>>5574148

Their preceptor/soundwave/blaster molds are their worst, but the animal guys are pretty cool. Turret and Manacle get a pass because of Metroplex and coherent alt modes.

I'd say go with Magnus or Datsun Bros since they have weapons too. Or save some money with Blitzwing or Iron Waifu.
>>
>>5574224

Iron Waifu? You mean Windblade, I assume? I might throw her in just because she's "cheap".

As for the gun mode, I'd be okay with one guy being the dedicated gun if it means good gun and limbs. For me at least, I know these guys from Masterforce, where he only had one configuration as far as I know. Not sure what he got in the Marvel comics.

I've got the redeco. He's alright. He's a solid enough toy in a physical sense, but I know a lot of people are not into the look of his modes. You might want to watch a video on him as those promo pics are taken from fairly flattering angles (particularly the wolf) .Overall, I found Hexatron to be a better six-changer. But if the price is good, go for it.
>>
>>5575179

I got the 6Knight repaint. I like him. I'm always a sucker for sixchangers, and he's a pretty good size. I don't care for the Quickswitch colors that much and his alt modes are kind of meh; I usually just transform him into his cougar mode. His robot mode is pretty awesome, though.

I think I got 6Knight for about $90 and felt it was worth it. How much is a steal for you?

the old USA TV commercial for the seacons was 'anyone can become the GUN'. But I'm with you on that I hope 1 is the gun, and they focus on making the combiner stable and limbs good as opposed to the mess that was Ares.

What's up with TFC anyways? All the toys looks like one team of designers, but the combiners in particular are wildly inconsistent with everything from QC to being plain unstable or just a mess?

This is coming from someone who has Hercules and LOVES Hercules, but had to sell Predaking and Uranos because I just couldn't stand them.

I don't really know what's gone on at TFC. I have Hercules too and he's great. Particularly, great for his era. But then they just fucked up Silverbolt so badly. Preadaking seemed just boring (overshadowed by MMC's mostly, I don't think it looked terrible, not sure of QC). And then Defensor just sort of happened. I have no real feelings about that. Then they go silent for a bit and come back with Seacons and Breastforce who looks leagues ahead yet still look like TFC work. Maybe their designer took some classes in the meantime?
>>
>>5575229
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7Li433Yi-8

Slightly better.
>>
>>5575274

I've seen people here say TFC's Predaking has really shit QC and is basically about as stable as CW Skylynx (aka: Will flop right the fuck over due to shitty leg joints).

MMC is the only way to go for a Predaking. The others all have shit QC. Too bad he's about $600 fucking dollars.
>>
>>5575360
Depends on the unit. Some are *fairly* stable- still nowhere near as solid as, say, Feral Rex but still serviceable. Others are ridiculously unstable and literally fall apart.

On the plus side, if this makes sense, the problem is entirely in the tolerances- the materials are solid enough so he isn't going to crumble to dust like, say, a KFC product, and as individual robots they're actually not too bad (or so I'm told). They just don't work very well as a combiner, which is a shame because IMO they look awesome in every mode.

Honestly if I were to go for any Predaking it would be Ares, because A: his instability SHOULD be fixable via a bit of superglue/floor polish/sanding or whatever (though I'm not so sure on the ratchets), B: he does look awesome, C: I don't like the MMC Predacons aesthetics (The robot modes are cool but the combined mode looks a bit weird and the beast modes are dreadful, especially Rampage) and D: Feral Rex is both rare and ludicrously expensive- like, £500 last time I checked. And I ain't spending half a grand on a representation I don't really like of a team I'm not overly attached to. If Maketoys bring out a Predaking I'll bite as they know exactly how to do a combiner and I love the MT aesthetic. I'd buy Giant if he were bigger, but he's a bit too short for my liking.
>>
>>5575582

Ok, 3P guys, I've hit upon a problem.

Gonna grab IF Evil Lord and Miko, that I know. But now I'm stuck on what to get with it.

Iron Factory's Datsun's, or their Ultra Magnus? I could technically get both, but then I'd be spending waaay over my budget for the month and I don't want to do that.
>>
Help me get free shipping. MP Hotrod or Iron Factory Minimags?

>>5577084
You could conceivably buy one or two of the Datsuns off someone to split them. They're fucking great minus the partsforming shoulder armor. Ebay Chinese sellers are your best bet if you don't mind waiting a week or two and having to pay for returns/defects.
>>
>>5577374

Well, whats the better of the two?

Magnus or the Datsun triplets?

..For that matter, how many weapons kits do they both come with? Magnus comes with two kits, right, and I assume the Datsuns come with 3? Part of the reason I'm nabbing Magnus (or the trio) are for all those extra weapons they have, to give to my other figures since they're all 5mm.
>>
>>5577387

Not sure as I am trying to get a Magnus. People say the Datsun's are their best work so far and I love mine.

Magnus comes with the same kits that the Sonictech and Slammer/Sixgun set do. Datsuns have their own unique weapon kits and guns. I don't think there are as many as in the earlier kit though.
>>
>>5577374
>partsforming shoulder armor

I agree that's the one disappointing thing about this set, BUT if you're not anal about comic accuracy you can just leave them in vehicle mode configuration and the armor ends up on the back of the arms (Generations Voyager Springer style).

The fact is, anon, you can't go wrong. Both options are great, and IF figures are readily available on eBay for MSRP so you can just buy the other set next month.

Mp shockwave, Quakewave, or Quakeblast? I dont know who to buy for my MP shelf.

I love MP's head and accessories, but not the color or leg articulation.

I like how sleek Quakewave is, but his legs look off too me.

I like everything about cloud 9's quakeblast except the eye seems small and he seems really greebled up.

I just want a middle ground of all 3. Which is /toy/'s recommendation? Because to be honest I can not choose on my own.
>>
>>5577878
The MP's bubbly sleekness is what makes it my choice, even though I like the color of the toy colors Quakewave the best. One of the things that makes Shockwave, shockwave to me are the sweeping, smooth lines that make up his shape, compared to the more blocky Diaclone based designs. As far as coolness goes, however, I'd say QB is probably the coolest.
>>
>>5577878
>>5577886
QB definitely has the most 'mecha' proportions, QW is like an inbetween of the MP and QB

That would be the beauty of it though- there'd be no partsforming involved. The only bit that would need to partsform would be the rocket launcher.

Yea, Evil Lord has a ton of partsforming, but I actually like it with this line. They put forward a lot of customization in their bots and this is no exception.

All the forms to me are very solid and the partsforming just adds to the personal flair.

Also, anyone that would deny our Lord Aerial Dominance Soundwave Alpha is absolutely crazy.

Honestly, if you're American, I would just get either Hasbro or Takara Computron and buy a PE kit, head/chest or hands/feet respectively.

The mold really isn't that bad, I honestly don't mind it. The articulation isn't terrible for the size and price point. Honestly the major selling point is the play value, there is so much to do with these little guys, I've never regretted a single one of them. They live on my desk and I just fiddle with them all the time.

Skip it, it's actual trash. Get the UW Computron thats coming out by Takara with the PE hands/feet. You'll save yourself around $40-70 bux and get a better toy than that mess.

How about this? Seems to have gone dark, too.

Just ordered my first ever 3P toys.

Got Not-Overlord there, and MMC's Not-Sixshot. The original, not the redesigned one. I liked the originals colors/guns/ninjastar wheels and shaped chest better.

How did I do guys?

This is what someone looks like when they buy a toy and break it with fat manchild fingers.

>>5580443
Quanton is fine, nothing wrong with him. He is complex, and the Not-Nosecone figure is really fiddly. Other than that he's a solid 8-9/10 and worth the dosh. Just be aware that the transformations are not typical of most transformers, learn the instructions, you'll be fine.

quantron's design looks so much cooler to me than the cw gestalts. doesn't matter how successful they are as toys, they just look like shit to me.

The original releases of Quakewave are the best match, the best look, and the best quality.

Nah, it's just shit quality and too fiddly transformation. Any youtube reviewer or anyone you ask who owns one will tell you. You'd be a retard to break it, but it just ain't worth the price. Especially with a good official one coming out in just a few months.
>>
>>5580849

Since when is diecast a GOOD thing? Do you not remember how diecast fucks up over time? It's as bad as rubber tires, basically asking for your toy to turn to shit with time.

Didn't the original release have major QC issues with the gun breaking? Also I don't remember Shockwaves's cable attaching to the top of his forearm.

Holy shit, son. How many diecast figures have you ever owned? The ones I've got from the seventies and eighties are still going strong.

Just how, exactly, does diecast fuck up?
>>
>>5580443
Probably the first MT release that actually left me with buyers remorse. Thing was an absolute mess in hand, I have no clue how they went from green giant to this piece of shit.
>>

Wait what?

How new are you? I'm not that anon but the flaws of diecast come up religiously on this board.

Not that I know of. Certainly not mine.

>Also I don't remember Shockwaves's cable attaching to the top of his forearm.

Originally it attached to the top, but then buyers could get a free little mod kit that would allow you to rotate that part of the forearm, to have the cable on the front or back.
>>
>>5581000

And those flaws are?
>>
>>5580992
So you show a diecast figure with no/minimal articulation? The problems generally come up in the joints, so there's that.

Sure, if it has poorly designed joints. That's the same as saying plastic sucks.
