No! You mad man! How will the thread cope without a theme for us to strictly follow?!

I wish I could be bothered to make a photo set up. Currently stuck taking photos in the dark or with shit lighting

Cheers, buddy. No idea it was a transformer, wasn't my kinda show. Figure was rad, though.

Nice pics!

That's a computer monitor for the background, right? How do you get it so that it's not washed out?

Revoltech Queen's Blade Nanael 2P variant. Well, to be precise it's the 2P head on the 1P body.
>>5563553

Nah, it's just a shitty stitch together in PS touch on IPhone.
>>5563561
Thanks, mang.
>>5563577
Is that a death eater? Or a seer from Dishonored?
>>5563577
Nice. I've tried that a couple times and it always ends up super washed out, or blue tinted.
>>5563589
It's a Death eater head alright, Lucius Malfoy to be exact. Just kitbashed it onto a Kylo Ren body and stuck an old sock and hat on it's head. Everything is just my goofy customs.
>>5563603

I'm pretty new to collecting toys, but I can see myself getting really into it as time goes on. Even with no setup to speak of, and my only camera being a phone, taking shitty pictures is a lot of fun.
Also, for some reason, I find the cap-wolf alt head that came with this figure absolutely fucking hilarious, and like it a lot more than I probably should.
Any recommendations on what I could use to make tiny dog-poops for him?
>>5563731
I just got that Batman too. He's the DC Multiverse version though. Doesn't look too bad for a Mattel figure.

>>5567006
He looks soo much better with the foregrip removed from his rifle though.
>>5563226
How do you guys keep up with taking pictures? I got a ton of figs and whatnot and whenever I wanna take cool pics like in this thread, I just can't get myself to do it. Drive maybe? Maybe I'm not interested? I don't know... Yet I always enjoy seeing others post these. Cheers.
I was messing around with the troopers. Really liked how this one came out
>>5567016
It's not as hard as you think. Don't worry about taking super awesome pics at first, that will come with time. Just start off with easy poses, nothing too complicated. Remember if you try to make the same pose IRL as your figure and it feels uncomfortable it's probably not a good pose.
>>5567045
Also try to avoid using the lighting in your room. If you don't have any better lights try natural sunlight through a window. It's not the best but it's better than the yellow tint that most ceiling fan lights give off.

Not sure if these qualify as Toy Photography. They're just pics I took.
>>5568165
They are pics of toys so that counts.
With this one, the camera has focused on the background so maybe take a few shots of each pose to make sure you get one of the subjects in better focus or widen the depth of field to get the fore and background in (pic related).

>>5569276
can you give me a quick review of that ajin?
looks really cool but l've never bought a sas figure, are they durable? is the quality ok? l don't care about crazy poses.
Quillfire:
Decepticon Scribe
>>5572888
He's fairly taller than a regular 6 inch figure like a figma schoolgirl.
Durability is pretty good but as with other Japanese figures I handled I always try to be super careful whenever I move joints around. Ajin is the same case since the one I got has a pretty stiff arm or shoulder joint that feels like it would snap under enough pressure but after two months of posing he still holds up and nothing is loose. I'm still careful about that shoulder joint though. I think it's called a barbell or double ball joint since you can see the ball that connects the arm and another within the sculpt of the torso.
His hips are pretty interesting since they rotate along the ball joint and the leg itself for decent to pretty good range. Ankle pivot or tilt is there also.
SAS have this thing with Medicos having iffy quality control on their figures and since I rarely see any users with Ajin I can't say too much. He came new from AmiAmi and given the simplistic paint work he hasn't had any issues at all. Like I mentioned before his joints are holding up still with none of it feeling loose or about to snap.
Not sure what else to go on but overall he's a pretty good figure even if he's taller than most but that's a non-issue if you're not into the whole scale thing.
>>5573024
thanks for the details
I dont care about ot being tall, especially since it's a monster so l dont think it would look weird being taller than humans
l like stand alone figure that don't force me to buy sets to feel satisfied, and l think this one would fit in well in my collection
thank you very much, l think l'll give this guy a try
Commencing a Kinniku sized photo dump
Ataru is on the attack
Is this the end for Kinnikuman?
Of course not! I just started posting these photos

>Look at this guy, with his single jointed elbows!
>>5574210
Oh sorry, what would a suitable size be?
>>5574210
Not him, but lowering the image size usually lowers the quality of my photos. Is there any way around this?
>>5574238
AFAIK, nope.
However, being brutally honest here, nobody cares that much about tiny details. For the most part, as long as the composition looks good, and the technical aspect (illumination, focus, etc), is ok, most people will say nothing, but you know you did a good job when you see it being reposted in another thread.
The size is only relevant when:
a) If too large, people will rightfully complain about taking too long to load, or taking too much space to display.
b) using them in larger spaces. like wallpapers.
A maximum of 2000 pixels in either side is the most recommendable.
>>5574839
>people will rightfully complain about taking too long to load
People are still using dial up in 2016?
>taking too much space to display
don't most browsers automatically resize images to fit your display? Mine does.

Medicos doesn't have that bad quality control. If something has iffy quality control, then it's usually every figure of that type. For instance: almost every Black Dio comes out weird. But just about every release that doesn't have known QC-issues is fine.

The pose is nice, and I really like the light to dark gradiant you've got going on. I feel like your lighting is too harsh/close though because that double shadow stands out really badly. Also lose the stand if possible?
>>5575872
I'll think about the stand and stuff. How do I get rid of the shadow? I was worried that might stand out a bit

Yeah shit, I have thought about it since he fits the theme so well.
Just not sure if I want the comic version or the movie version.
>>5565452
how much should I expect to spend on this?
Playing with Alternative weapons. As much fun as realistic guns and things are, its damn fun to find something odd and off the wall to equip figures with.
Took a couple quick shots to compare the natural light in my old collection room (one window, blocked by exterior staircase) to the new one (four unobstructed windows across two walls).
And yes anon, I know to be wary of sun damage on my displays.

>>5576583
What sort of set up do you use to get these kinds of pictures? Is it a simple light box? What did you use for the white background? What kind of lights/bulbs do you use?
>>5576773

>>5577150

>>5563226
Dat Rick Grimes hatchet, doe! MY NIGGA!
>>5577195
I have a lightbox, but you don't really need a store bought one (my box tent was a gift). You really don't need one at all!
If you want to make one it can cost as little or as much as you wish to spend. A simple box will do, but you could even make frames from wood or even PVC pipes.
For the sides just need some white opaque material. There are some kinds of plastic sheets you can use, but a thin fabrics can work as well. Hell even something as simple as parchment paper could work.
For the white background its just some white cloth with a strip of Velcro to secure it to the top.
I use daylight cfl light bulbs. CFL seem to produce more light, the daylight is a nice white color (less or no orange tint).
I just pop my camera on a tripod, make the adjustments (Brightness, color balance, Macro mode) then take multiple shots at different angles, positions and whatever.
Pick one then edit it by again adjusting brightness, levels, contrast, and all that junk.
Keep in mind I am a total amateur at all of this, and there are lots of people you can ask for probably better advice. I just like flinging my toys around and shooting pictures. My setup is probably pretty bad compared to some dudes who honestly do some amazing jobs.
>>5577533
