Man, he was my favorite too. first exposure to real posable ankle joints on a toy, which bugged me out. I love his giant claw and hidden hand gimmick.

I remember trying to write a letter to Kenner asking them to make a dragon Transformer back when BW first started. I even drew a suggestion of a design for how it'd work and everything (just a basic flip changer). When this guy came out years later I thought they answered my letter. I found my letter years later; my parents never mailed it out because it was just childish scribblings instead of actual writing with a drawn on stamp.

You really can't go wrong with the Ultras. Optimus, Megatron, The combiners, Rampage Deptch Charge, Tiger Hawk, and TM2 Megatron.

The original Optimus Primal is still my favorite way the design has ever looked. Stark black and white with one of the best looking headsculpts. Thew mentioned that awesome headsculpt in his review, it really does look great.
>>
>>5562877
I also love the original Primal look. The transformation is so simple but effective. That black/red/white colorscheme, those shoulder pauldrons, multiple gimmicks... It's just a great toy.

Really hyped for the Masterpiece too.

Beast Wars II holds a special place in my heart for being such a mysterious and unattainable toyline.

I still remember going to my friends place and booting up dial-up internet for the first time. We were big Beast Wars fans and ran across some pre-Space Jam website. The website was showing off brand new reveals from BW II, a gray prototype of Galvatron and a fully painted Lio Convoy. My boner could not be contained and those two figures dug right into my genetic code.

Pic not mine but I wish it was.

I know that feeling. One of the first things I used the internet for was looking up new Beast Wars toys. I remember seeing Lio Convoy and Galvatron for the first time and being amazed that Japan got such cool toys that I would never have.

Well then one day my family was in an Asian mall, and I found a store that had Japanese Beast Wars toys. I bought Galvatron, taking my first step down the slippery slope of buying Japanese toys. Here he is, more than 15 years later, my very first import.

It seems every time Beast Wars is bought up you always have a few people disparaging them as "robots in fur coats" Which is a little silly when that's only like half the line. Anyway, I actually prefer the real animal look; just because the "in disguise" aspect when it comes to transformers. Robot beasts are cool, but I think they stand on their own, like Zoids. Where as with realistic beast modes, I think its cool to see how they manage to pull off a transformation.

Its too bad that we got very few realistic animals besides Neo after '97, because they got a lot better at sculpting beasts. The Neo Dinosaurs are fantastic looking. The Transmetal 2's vary but stuff like Jawbreaker and Prowl are really dynamic looking and more naturally sculpted than similar, earlier beast modes. Even the terrible animorphs line had some fantastic beast modes occasionally; would've been great if some got remolds as robots.

>Even the terrible animorphs line had some fantastic beast modes occasionally; would've been great if some got remolds as robots.

This actually happened. The Beast Wars Mutant subline were intended as Animorph toys. They were supposed to have little pop up heads and a few biologic parts, but they got changed to mechanical robot parts. They don't have real robot modes though, just two beast modes. Which was actually pretty amazing especially for the time. They came out as late as Transmetal 2 days if I recall correct.

I wish these were easier to find, I can't find them on eBay for a good price either. I tried TFW2005 but bumping an old ass forum post for days is not fun. And I think the Bat Alligator has gold plastic syndrome.

That slipped my mind; I actually remember really liking the wolverine/raptor(the only one i could find) because of the raptor mode. It even had digitigrade legs.I remember thinking how cool it'd be if we got a Dinobot toy with a beast mode that good. The Universe one came close, but fell short due to many things besides ditching animation accuracy in robot mode. The stupid alternating normal hand/beast foot hand on his chest among the worst. should've just cave him fake claw hands that folded away instead of the two hand option. Giving Dinobot normal hands is as weird as giving Soundwave eyes and a mouth.

Hopefully takara gives us an MP dinobot if Primal does well.

I always thought the Transmetal mega was his least interesting body in BW actually. Even liked the bat body better. Optimal Optimus would've been drastically improved if he kept the Transmetal colors or the Season 1 colors, though. Replace the orange with either black or the maroon/brown of the Transmetal. really wish they made Black/white/red Primal's iconic colors like Purple is to Megatron.

That's practically all the transmetals though. They're meant to be bio-boosted robots, so they have beast mode elements in robot mode. Its more subtle with Megatron but most of the brown areas are meant to look more organic, including his helmet, and of course he has a partial T.Rex head growing out his chest.

Personally I like it, but I like organic mecha Though yeah, Optimus Primal's organicness is probably the least appealing. The Predacons took the Transmetal look better overall, probably because they weren't mammalian and thus had to be more creative with blending the beast elements into a humanoid robot mode.

lol what. It's not subtle at all. That's the whole reason he has a dinosaur head on chest. His arms and thighs and even head are also dinosaur skin.
