Those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Are Kotobukiya kits generally good? I'm asking because preorders for http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10377656 finally started
>>
>>5552330
Third for Gaelio is the actual hero of IBO and Mikazuki is the main villain
>>
>>5552343
I don't actually watch IBO
>>
>>5552340
Yes, they're probably the best outside of Bandai and have been getting better over time, but you probably still want to have some experience with models before diving in to their kits as they require a bit of work
>>
>>5552340
The EVA ones are shit.
>>
>>5552340
Yeah, Koto kits are generally on par with Bandai in terms of ease of building. They tend to do some painting on the runners for certain items, which is cool for straight builds. Also, I've noticed for things of a similar size they tend to have more pieces than say, an HG, but not as much as an MG on average.

Thanks, guys

So I've been seeing these shiny red beads in some people's MG Zaku's eyes that look better than the ones they come with, does anyone know what they're called?

>>5552340
As someone who has worked on a few Koto kits I can tell you that the plastic they use is slightly harder and brittle than Bandai's, similarly, the tended to have somewhat bad gate placement, leaving plenty of seams and nubs to work with, like that Huckebein Mk II of mine in the OP pic.

However, that was with their old kits, their latest releases are on par with Bandai in terms of quality, if not even better since they tend to come with a already colored parts, such as the eyes and head cameras, and a extensive number of parts molded in faithful colors, making a straight build require minimal paint apps.

If anything, their downside is the price of their kits, which is really higher than Bandai's, just check out how expensive the Muv Luv and SRW kits are. That aside, I'm sure that Xenoblade kit will be really good
>>
>>5552364
There are many ways to upgrade lenses.

Could be a external lens kit like the builders parts, or a sanded down clear sprue with silver paint behind it.
>>
>>5552330
That version is so much better than the original and I hope it gets 1/100.

So I was looking to get Bighands McGee here, but some of the places that are taking orders are saying she'll ship out in April, while others are saying that she won't ship out until the end of July.

Who's telling the truth? I don't know the inner workings of Japanese model companies so I'm having trouble making a judgment call, here. If it's April I'll go ahead and order now, but if it's July I can probably wait a little bit longer.

It has an oversized head and being an older kit AND a Zaku it has kinda poor articulation
Something more recent would be the F2 Zaku which is pretty much the same but with a few added details. It doesn't come with a bazooka though, you get another gun and grenades instead

A "muh honor" group that had already lost the the protagonists twice and pissed them all off by killing their friend suddenly popped up in front of them, got out of their ms, and demanded a 3v3 duel and said they were going to give them 30 minutes to prepare.

It's called preshading. To put it simply, you airbrush dark highlights onto the kit and then paint over with light coats of your final color. The darker color showing through gives that effect. I'm fairly sure you need an airbrush for this, I don't think you can do this with rattlecans (or at the very least, it would be really difficult).

For people like you and me (plebes) if something is so expensive as to be exclusive yet still desirable, we'd buy one and call it a day (a set of nice golf clubs, cars, holiday homes etc) because taking a step up and buying another one is cripplingly expensive.

However, our hobby is a collectors hobby to which there is time expended on each consumable that is purchased and taking the plunge and buying another one before the current one is finished is only the cost of a meal or so.

That's the spiral

Sadly, the standard decals don't help me, since I'm going for pic related, Ace Combat Zero colors. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10321578 comes with extras of various sizes so I thought maybe I could find some the right size for shoulder/chest/skirt. The ones on the wing tips are clearly oversized for my needs but there are for example Ustio flags that are half that size on the decal sheet.

I'm poor at eyeballing this kind of shit, though, so perhaps someone with 1/144 TSFs can help me out or suggest something else.

When done correctly its much more gradual and smooth looking.

Here's also the thing about the preshading. If you ask around the guys at your local IPMS, they'll tell you that choosing colors for your preshades is key. Like you don't preshade black on everything. You preshade grey to white, dark green to green, dark blue to blues, etc.

At the time of the Kai's release, that was red frames current form in the series and thus had the most current exposure and relevance for maximum sales. Years down the line they were doing a spat of p-bandai astray releases alongside the release of the new hg astray and the new manga starting so they took the opportunity to toss out a mg of the regular one as a p bandai since the original astray manga was a decade old at that point and they didn't want to cannibalize sales from the hg newly released.
