He's actually not THAT big. I mean, he's huge for G1, but he's the same size as a CW gestalt really. Really, just a lot of extra bits to keep track of is the real flaw. Brunt can tag along when not in city mode, but you're still left with a few extra guns, missiles, connection pegs, and ramps that just sit idle when you're not city time.
THAT'S the real shame: no space to play with that city mode and stuff.

Their reasoning is that we get a bipedal dino as the "bot" mode and it's uncommon and the bipedal dino modes are usually very meh.
And then you have his alt mode. Its not any kind of vehicle or beast. Its just a base. I mean sure that's cool and all, but it's not really anything unless you have other figures for it. Its pretty much display only.
Plus they probably won't give much articulation to the dinosaur mode.

In IDW it seems the way to eliminate a Transformer for good is to damage the spark enough to cause it to die out or to destroy the bot's brain case. So basically as long as the brain and 'heart' survive they can be rebuilt.
Most of the time they are pretty good in the comic about saying the spark is fading or extinguished to let you know the bot is now spare parts.

Hey guys. I'm not a big fan of transformers but I take a look at the toys every now and then. I want to know what /tfg/ thinks about the Combiner Wars deluxes.
Me, I think this line can't die fast enough. The limb compatibility is nice, I'l give it that. The problem is that it comes at the expense of unique designs. Most characters are just repaints with different heads. Apart from the lack of individuality, various characters lack distinctive visual elements. Prowl, for example, lacks his characteristic rockets and cardoor wings.
The plastic quality doesn't appeal to me either, though I'm used to other toy companies' plastic.
Now you're probably thinking "it's a toy, you sperg. It doesn't matter if it's a good representation of the character. Only that it's good". I agree but this line fails even there. Let's take Sunstreaker for example. He is a brick! An unappealing, cumbersome body with a plastic cape. I don't even know what to say about his limbs. They look like the designer was forced to add them and spent half an afternoon designing them.

Combiner Wars turned out really nice. The only really bad bodytype that came out of it is the semi truck, and even then people have made it look really nice even without add-ons.
My absolute favorite figure of the line is Onslaught. He feels really dynamic in robot mode, his vehicle mode is inventive for a retool, and Bruticus as a torso has a lot of solid display options.

Wave 1 and 2 were over all great and took effort to match them to either look like their G1 toy or cartoon model. Come wave 3 it all started to fall apart. Rook was the only unique deluxe mold of that wave, then hit wave 4 which really felt like a filler wave due to the fact it was just all 4 stunticon molds again just as Autobots which would have been tolerated if wave 5 wasn't so weak. Bruticus a big fan favorite had two limbs that were just straight repaints with no retooling at all (Vortex and Blast Off) even the wave four guys at least got new heads. Swindle while a fun retool was still just that and the only original mold brawl had no waist to speak of and was just awful in proportions.
Thinking about it always makes me frustratingly confused as to what Hasbro was trying to do.

It being reused wasn't the issue for most. It was the insane overuse in just one year.
Dead Ends mold has been used 5 times in less than a year after the box sets are out the mold will have been used a total of 9 times. in Second place is Offroad with 7. It's just nuts it was whore out that bad. and of the 8 voyagers it's been 4 molds used. After the boxes sets it gets worse with that.
I get cost saving but this just seems a bit to extreme for something that was aimed more for the older fans.

Central Washington here. Most recent wave appearance is that I saw a Mirage at TRU. Local Walmart has some Rodimi and Skywarps, and still has the same 12 Rattraps. I count them every time I go.
Thankfully they finally took down the Slipstream that was torn out of its packaging. I think I would have complained if it had hung there for a full year.

Oh, finally, someone with a similar opinion. People gushed all over that mold, and I even got the sweet-looking shiny gold Takara version, but it wasn't enough to save it. It just can't do much. Knees suck, elbows suck, head can't turn, alt. mode isn't even particularly cool.

I bought the Takara version, and Tailgate is really one of my favorites. I think the better paintjob goes a long way, but articulation-wise, it's an excellent little figure. Pretty good range on all of his limbs, especially his legs, AND his ankles rock forward and back due to transformation, which makes him able to hold some awesome poses that most other Legends classes can only dream of. On top of that, his altmode is awesome. I suppose I can understand the hate this guy gets when viewed in direct contrast with like, Swerve and Cosmos, but even then, I can't. He's great and I love him. I usually cycle Legends figures in and out of my desk draws, but one dude has been on my desk since I got him, and it's Tailgate.
Also, his colors go well with Flanker. Since his original Targetmaster sucks, he's been re-assigned.

It depends on what you want out of it and how much you want to spend.
If you want a virgin product and you want to keep them in robot modes, the Takara UW is better.
If you want a virgin product and you don't care about individual modes or a flip-down visor, Hasbro CW will suffice if you can get it cheaper.

The final wave is of any subline is usually the hardest to find, right? Toy stores are left with too much stock from previous waves, and decide to stop ordering when the next line is coming up.
Is the situation the same for the last wave of a year? That is to say, the wave that hits closest to the Christmas rush (not counting early stocks of the January wave).
