Do you ever feel like you've bought too much?

Sometimes, but if I'm generally happy with all I've bought and I have the space for it I think it's fine. Is this pic related your collection?

Some days the old "what the fuck am I going to do with all this shit" moods hits me, then several hours later I'm back looking for the best deals on figures I want while adding new ones to the list.

The ride never ends
>>
>>5462434
This. I work weekends right now, 7AM to 3PM so it usually happens about 10AM on Saturday, right when the grogginess wears off on the first day of my work week. It usually takes the form of "what's the point when I'm not going to care about any of this shit in ten or twenty years if/when I have a family?"
>>
I'm way past that. I live in a warehouse at this point.

Gradually I'm slowing down the pace and focus more on unboxing or building stuff I got like 3 years ago...

I need to stop playing with one toy for like a week, and move on to the next sooner.
>>
>>5462379
I have a dozen or so shelves just like yours. How good have you gotten at building them? I think we built 6 when we moved into our bigger house a little over a year ago.
>>
Sort of?? But I don't have regrets about it. I mostly feel over whelmed by it since I live in a small basement suite and have way too much crap in my house.

Ill feel much better when I'm able to live in a larger space to fill up with my Chinese plastic.
>>
Yeah, I did that so I sold half of the stuff I didn't want and had enough to go to Japan with my girlfriend.

You honestly enjoy your money more spending it on experiences instead of objects
>>
At times, yes, but doing so is sometimes the only thing that keeps me from wanting to off myself. All the same, I sell stuff off now & then to try & maintain a balance.

Same here. This is the collection that depression built. Part of it, anyway. I have another room filled with so many figures and boxes that it's hardly navigable anymore.

While I do actually enjoy everything I buy, deep down I am aware I'm just filling a hole that will never be full.

Nice collection OP. I just sold about 350 some MLs over the past 6 months. Too much to keep up with as well as the price.
>>
Honestly depends, with transformers its a bitch because they take up so much space, especially combiners and titans
>>

Yeah, but did you buy any figures in Japan? If not, experience wasted.
>>
>>5462379
No. Bought too much? The fuck am I, a broke-ass canadian or something? Toys are cheap and I only buy characters that I love so the urge to ditch them doesn't come up. It's two gigantic plusses.
>>
>>5462841
I fucking hate you so god damned much
>>
>>5463041
duh bruh, I went to the complex mandarake in Akiba and brought shit I wanted, but i cooled down from buying 5-6 items every month to just 1 or 2 items every few months.

it allows me to enjoy what I already have
>>
>>5463330
>it allows me to enjoy what I already have
I feel the same. I have a lot more figures now, but I find himself screwing around with them less compared to back in 2010 or some shit and being a poorfag still in high school.

Not buying a lot of figures anymore, but that's only because my exchange rate is bad. Oh well
>>
honestly i only feel like i buy too much when i get something just because it was rare or because i felt like i needed it to be a part of a collection

most things that i truly want i never regret buying, even if they get stored away
>>
>>5463330
>cooled down from buying 5-6 items every month to just 1 or 2 items

This really helps. You start to appreciate your older toys, and you stop looking at your collection as a history of flavor of the month toys from the last several years.

It also helps to spend some money on your display. I just dropped about 50 bucks on setting up my own shelving, and getting a new bookcase (I don't care for glass cases) and having so much more room allows me to put up more of my collection and have some more space for them. Sometimes you just forget how much fun a toy you bought 3 years ago is.
>>
>>5463330
>buying 5-6 items every month

See, I didn't even know people actually do this. How are your homes not overflowing with toys by now?
>>
>>5462690
As a functional aspie (I work full time but shut my self up otherwise) I know this feel. Kinda made a quote saying for it. Weed to kill the pain, porn for the lust, toys for the heart. Dam kinda fucked up now that I'm typing it
>>
>>5463381
I used to buy 5-6 toys every month, but now there's barely anything I want to buy that isn't a. too expensive on the aftermarket or b. unreleased.

It's frustrating, because recently an uncommon figure popped up on Manda for a good price, and something I've yet to get, but I ended up having to skip it because I couldn't even find anything else I wanted to buy to avoid paying the 500y fee and shipping for just a single figure.
>>
>>5463381
bro it was, my girlfriend was sick of it, and i couldnt stop, it put a big strain on a lot of parts of my life because i was so lost in this obsession. It was a bad habit that really hindered my own growth. I practically lost it all by the time I realized i had to stop.

im just glad I could sell some back to make profit or break even because in worse addictions you dont even get that money back.

SELL ALL YOUR TOYS

KEEP ONE TOY, YOUR "WOODY", BUT MAKE SURE HE IS SOMETHING DURABLE AND NOT TOO EXPENSIVE SO THERE IS LITTLE SUPERFICIAL ATTACHMENT - JUST SOMETHING YOU LIKE

THEN GET A GF AND/OR PET (LIKE A CAT OR A DOG). YOU ARE TRYING TO MAKE TOYS FILL A HOLE IN YOUR LIFE THAT THEY CANNOT FILL. COMPANIONSHIP, SELF WORTH.

My husband told me last night that he thinks I should stop buying toys. That the house was getting too cluttered. It stresses me out since I love getting toys. I asked if it'd be okay to still buy them but store them away somewhere. But then he said that would just be a waste of money. This is one of my most loved hobbies, I'm a little stressed out about it.

Sometimes, bit I think it is a result of not having proper space.

There's a vacant room here that I am taking over. After some light renovation I will get some Klingsbos and set it all up in there. So I think being physically cluttered in bothers me more than how much I have. Once my room is cleared I'll feel much better

Had one. I've had several GFs and each time I slowly realized that I just don't want to deal with another person. I like my space and I like alone time to the point where I might as well not even be dating the other person. Not even a big fan of actual sex. I just enjoyed the kinky power play stuff, which I can get the same feeling of online.

>>
>>5464394
If you get more joy from simply receiving the toy in the mail than actually having it and playing with it (i doubt you play with the dozens/hundreds of toys you probably have collected), then you are suffering from collector psychology which is a form of addiction. You should look inward as to why you enjoy such little things, and look for healthier ways to channel this.
>>
>>5462379
I might if I collected garbage like you.
>>
>>5464931
I mean, some people just like collecting. I've always loved it no matter how happy I am. Started with Pokemon, moved to rare video games, then Magic cards. Collected coins for a while when I worked retail (made, like, 500 bucks over a year of trading out shitty dimes for silver dimes.) And now I collect revolvers and toys. Never been a problem, never hurt my finances, life, or relationships.
>>
Well, my first experience of toy collecting was on a trip to Japan with my gf. I didn't even know it was a hobby that existed; just walked right into Akiba like a dope, and nearly died from the excitement. If you've ever been, you know it's balls-to-the-wall hardcore. It's a constant wave of "I WANT", even for franchises you've never heard of.

But you quickly realise that it's plastic heroin and there is so much, that you just can't have it all, or even take it home. When I got back I did start a small collection of Pokémon figs, mostly rare stuff (D-Arts, Red Nendo etc.). That quickly bitch-slapped my wallet. So since then I've been very selective about it so I don't end up broke. I think the only fig I'm interested in that's coming up is the Red and Green Nendos.

It definitely fills a hole though. With the Pokémon, I know I'm trying to recapture childhood joy. But it's pretty fleeting. So I can sympathise with people who are lonelier or more unhappy than me. It's easy to fall in to.

Shit. I just realized that pic isn't actually Akiba.
And even those years ago the prices seemed a bit less outside. It makes sense, of course. Even then it was prime real estate and they have to pay rent. Still. That was pretty amazing. I'd like to go back to Akiba anyway.
>>
>>5465087
Yeah, I remember we spent several hours in one building. My gf isn't into collecting, but even she got a kick out of it.

I was only there a few months back, so I wouldn't have been aware of the price of figs. Maybe it's the tourists, like you say. Otaku culture in the West has definitely grown a lot in recent years.

I know that feel.

I limit myself to collecting newer Marvel Legends since toybiz traded articulation for sculpts and comics is the one hobby I know that has stayed with me for a good 10 years and counting, I can't say the same with anime so I'm not into figuarts or figma that bad but they're neat and I'm leaning more on bandai because licenses and nostalgia.

I have one or two of each of the more notorious toylines so I already know what to expect but I know that once I get a good ammount of Avengers and villains my collecting is going to slow down or just simply end. it's that dreadfull feel of completition that's going to devour me inside and i'm terrified .

Most yes, but there's plenty of relatively obscure stuff that gets good merch. Look at Sentinel, Arcadia/ Yamato, Kotobukiya, Threezero, etc. All great manufacturers that do stuff more interesting than just movie shit.

Not really. I have the space and money to display everything, and I only buy figures whose source material is important to me. I also try to avoid buying two figures of the same character.

Alright, here's a different take on the "have I bought too much" feeling. After owning my home for 11 years, my home insurance company left the insurance market and transferred me to a new company. Now that new company wants to do an external AND internal survey of the property, including taking photos. Guess who's been packing up toys into multiple 27-gallon storage totes?

Refusing an internal inspection means they'd probably drop me as a customer, and there's no way I want some stranger seeing all my toys. God damn.

Not sure where to post this so figured I'll just post here
Kind of a dumb post anyways but figured some toy discussion is always fun...
I'm trying to limit my collection and maybe sell things off and only focus on certain things.
I'm keeping a DBZ, Star Wars, and Smash Bros display. Other than that, I have Aigis and Yu from Persona, Kat from Gravity Rush, Asuka figma, and the 2 Mako nendos.
I plan on selling Makos, but wondering what to do with my other 'extra' figures. I am thinking of pooossibly just selling them, but I also kind of want to keep my Persona figures. At the same time I'm thinking of keeping the girl figmas, and maybe selling off Yu and Makos. And then possibly building a small girl figma collection, adding other popular girls like Mikasa, etc...although I already did sell my Ryuko so that would be a slightly sad collection to start up again.
Anyways, let me know what you think, although obviously it's ultimately up to what I desire, but figured I'd throw this out there! Should I build up Persona and by the Teddie Nendo and some D-Arts?! Or build up a girl figma collection and get me a new Snow Miku! Or, just limit myself, save my wallet, and focus just on the DBZ, SW, and Smash?
Thanks!

No pony stuff, but I've got toys from lots of lines. Everything from Joes, to older McFarlane figs, Godzilla, Jurassic Park, a few mecha. Call it silly adult pride or something. Just don't want a stranger thinking I'm a manchild.

Heck, even when you've got a home fully paid off sometimes it doesn't seem like it's totally yours.

Let them see em. Insure them.

That's a really good point. Just don't want some guy seeing my shelves of nerd crap.

When unpacking them, I'll take pictures and keep the photos off-site. Some website suggested not having all your pricy stuff out when the insurance inspector comes around. Thanks for the tip.

now that I'm really only collecting figures I really want and not getting the ones I somewhat like too, to complete whole lines, no.

I just feel like I haven't bought enough shelves.

Just focus for now. I think you're going to get overwhelmed. I have OCD regarding which series gets group together. I only have one detolf so any more figures and I will have to get another one. But all on you, if you can afford it and have the room do whatever the fuck you want to.

I feel like I'm not as bad as these textbook cases but I could be lying to myself.
I know I am a completionist. For example. I NEED all the dc icons figures and all the MCU marvel legends. But I have self control in the sense that my completionism is constrained, for example I only feel compulsion to collect the mcu marvel legends, not the full line including comic book versions. I may feel inclined to buy some staple characters like spidey or iron fist but I don't want nuke or cap wolf etc..

The thing is also I have a lot of different interests that take up my toy money like guitar, comic books, vidya.. so I rotate my hobbies every few months
do I have an actual problem?

Thanks, yeah I think you're right and I'll likely get overwhelmed. I also only have one detolf and I really only have room for the remaining figures I want to get in the collections I own, so extras would really start to cause space issues too besides not exactly fitting in.
Cool, thanks.

how old are you?
Who gives a damn what some suit thinks? You're an adult, responsible in the sense that you have a paid off house. You can live your damn life the way you want. Life is too short for bullshit like that.

Get your collection insured too incase of god knows what.

Have you put them together? Or just there for storage?
>>
>>5486706
I've built maybe 6 of them
>>

I'm 39. Like I said, silly adult pride. But yeah, I will get my collection documented and insured. That's part of the reason for having home insurance in the first place. Thanks for your advice, I do appreciate it.

You have a problem

I only feel as if I've bought too much when I realize I have too much to display. I moved from a house with an extra room into a house with less space so figuring out what to display is kind of rough.

It's more like how do you get rid of the stuff after you realize to much
