I've got Bruticus now, with Shockwave on the way. Why is he so based? I really think he might be the best combiner yet. Great aesthetics and color scheme, strong limbs, the only thing dragging him down is Brawl, who works fine as a leg.

Ah yes, the voice of a young school teacher before the kids break them in.

This isn't come hardcore sjw sperging on about how they need more fembots, this is a woman giving young kids an idea of what a cool toy is.

I used to find this soothing until I became friends with the sort, now I await them to morph from a friendly lady great with kids to one of those old crones who everyone dreads.

Dunno if she actually is a teacher but she sounds like the type, loves kids, enjoys anything to do with them, hasn't had their dreams crushed yet

Hey, I live in Finland and Transformers never were that popular here (I'm not counting the Michael Bay movies, obviously), at least not in the nineties when I was a kid, so I wasn't into the show(s) that much. TMNT and Biker Mice from Mars were the popular shows in my childhood years here in Finland.
But I've just recently gotten into Transformers through IDW comics, which I'm loving. And the comics piqued my interest in the toys. I'm looking into start collecting, but the fact that Transformers aren't that popular in here means that the toys are pretty scarce (and overpriced too). So I might buy them overseas, that's not a problem though. What I am finding a bit problematic though is the sheer amount of the toys though. So, what should my approach be in choosing what to buy?
Sorry if my english is weird/ fragmented, it's my third language yadda, yadda.

Hasbro's not too interested in releasing MTMTE-style figures. Most MTMTE figures are 3rd party so good luck with that.

Currently though, most of the main IDW characters do have figures of their own like Springer (must own), Windblade, Bumblebee, etc.

So depending on how you want to collect, I'd suggest waiting out on local toy conventions, finding hobby shops to widen your search horizon and if you have the dosh, consider investing in 3P stuff.
>>
>>5425926
There's ALOT of good Transformers toys. Use this handy list, it tells you about some of them
http://pastebin.com/vgkZ1EBp
>>
>>5425926
Pick what you like, but look for reviews before you buy, 2 or 3, that way you will be aware of possible bad quality issues and even some missing steps on the transformation, like how Hotspot/Onslaught knees are supposed to transform isn't explained on the instruction sheet.
>>
>>5425926
If you want official toys of IDW characters:
Generations Leader Jetfire
Generations Voyager Springer
Generations Voyager Brainstorm
Generations Deluxe Skids
Generations Deluxe Trailcutter
Generations Deluxe Nightbeat
Generations Deluxe Wind Blade
Generations Deluxe Armada Starscream
Generations Deluxe Goldfire
Generations Legends Swerve
Generations Legends Bumblebee
Combiner Wars Leader Ultra Magnus
Combiner Wars Deluxe First Aid
>>
>>5425926
>>5425937
IDW inspired Hasbro figures: Springer, Brainstorm, Swerve, Tailgate, Trailcutter, Drift, Blurr, Gen Bee (deluxe and legends), Gen Megatron (Deluxe and Leader) Jetfire, Gen Seekers (legends and Leaders) Windblade, Chromia and while not IDW inspired some "main" characters use their FoC design in the comics like Soundwave, Shockwave ad Sideswipe.
>>
>>5425934
Obviously. I worded it kinda badly. I wanted to know what to avoid, if there's something to be aware of, etc.
>>5425937

>>5425980
IDW's not as popular as the main cartoon toys, less so than the Bayformers. When it comes to MTMTE crew, they try to pander to both the comics and the older fans, which means they'll do Brainstorm but in the vein of his Headmasters appearance, they'll do Whirl but in the style of his G1 appearance, and they'll do Megatron but only if he's still branded a Decepticon.

Me too. I'm gutted I missed out on the HFTD version back when it was affordable. Now all I can find is KO versions.
>>
How did various continuities explain Pretender technology?
>>
>>5426518
Anime: better disguises for the autobots that allow them to fully interact with humans and human size facilities, the Cons just used them to scare the shit out of everybody. IDW comic: The autobot shells are power up suits for deep space that protect the users from high radiations, the Cons had the original versions that made them stronger but it wasn't perfected, the shells fused with their bodies driving them crazy in the process. No idea for the Marvel comics version.
>>
>>5426582
I think it was used as disguises in the Marvel comics.
>>
>>5426582
Marvel had the shells as powerful exosuits that augment various bots with powers and could be used as a drone when not being operated. Only downside was the damage to the shell was twice as much pain for the user

Say hello to“Big Wind”. It is a Russian T34 tank with its turret removed and replaced with twin MiG jet engines mounted to the treads. It is a giant double barreled super soaker on wheels. Actually it has 6 nozzles over the MiG engines. As it sprays water the engine jet blast sprays the water forward. The water is moving at a maximum rate of 220 gallons of water a second, or twice what an average U.S. household uses in 24 hours. If you hooked up this machine’s water pump to a typical suburban swimming pool, it would suck it dry in about 50 seconds. While the idea is for mass fire neutralization the tank could be Weaponized. It's pressure can be crank up to 210 MPa making it able to blast through military armor and artillery like it was butter however at the cost of that much water this would also make it the most impractical weapon of war.
>>
>>5425412
>I really think he might be the best combiner yet.

I'll agree partially. Onslaught Swindle and Brawl (even with his waist issue) are great, not so much Blastoff and Vortex.

It's not even the whole "Blastoff is a jet not a shuttle" thing, the Quickslinger/Firefly has hips that are way too thin, arms that don't lock down in arm-limb mode, an alt mode that has trouble holding together, legs that make you feel nervous to seperate them because it feels like they'll break every time, and a tailfin that causes major obstructions whenever you're trying to get Bruticus to hold anyway (Shockwave included). Plus Quickslinger/Slingshot's head just looks so bad.

The Alpha Bravo mold for Vortex isn't much better. Same small hip and non-locking arms problems, the copter blades don't collapse very well in arm mode plus they cause restrictions to the forearm/waist swivel

Really glad I didn't get Superion now.

Fellow Kiwifag here. I got it off BBTS with Scattershot. Couldn't risk it either not coming here or getting forced to live with the shit brown/green chest one. Warehouse is saturated with Protectobots/Cyclonus, while places like Farmers and K-Mart have a few Autobot recolors floating around. Supposedly somebody saw Combaticons (but not Onslaught) at a K-Mart or Farmers in Auckland.

It was very outdated even as a modern figure.

The lack of elbows was a joke. All the budget must have focused on the faction change gimmick and the minicons.

he's only been in two movies and two IDW comics and I already miss the poor bastard.
>>
>>5428091
Easily the biggest waste of potential in all the movies.

From a marketing standpoint, he's a perfect rival to Bumblebee, yet they decide not to use him again.

See that dope'ass design in pic related? from the Transformers Universe game? Barricade never even showed up in that game!

i hope he shows up in a new cartoon or something, he deserves it
>>
>>5428098
Eh, he'd just be reverse Judge Dredd with an evil mustache or so.

That or he's cursed to be interesting to the fans for a few scenes before dying or getting forgotten.
>>
>>5428091
The concept of an evil Police Car was too good, and they wasted it. He had the scene where he interrogated Sam and chased Bumblebee in the first one, which is still one of my favorite scenes from the movie franchise, but then he didn't do anything else except for one split-second shot in DOTM where you can only tell it's him if you freezeframe.
>>
>>5428091
>>5428098

Man that Human Alliance figure is pretty good. I also liked his DotM Deluxe.

Also his old Legends figure from 07 that got reused a few times and as a Legion class figure in the Cyberverse. Superb lil' bad cop that one is.
>>
>>5428098
>he's a perfect rival to Bumblebee
Or they could be obvious and make him basically Prowl with a Decepticon badge to drive the point of what a piece of shit Prowl's been portrayed as lately.
>>
>>5428105
Barricade had one of the best (if not the best) Legends figure from the movie line. Bonecrusher was great too, but he only came with Jazz, who was shit.

I wasn't happy when New Zealand didn't get the Human Alliance one.
>>
>waste of potential

That's basically par for the course in Bayverse.
>>
>>5428109
>Bonecrusher was great too, but he only came with Jazz, who was shit.
Not if your country gets European releases~ i got an individually packed one.

Wish he had a better toy though. Remember the Voyager Bonecrusher rumors?
>>
>>5427558

Never, hopefully.
>>
>>5427991
Nah, if it was G1 the legs would fused at the knees and his arms woudn't move.
>>
>>5428108
Or he could be the opposite of prowl as a decepticon.
>>
>>5428113
Well to be fair we did get the individual one here in New Zealand too, which I bought. It's more that people in America were either forced to buy Jazz (probably again for most of them) to get him or miss out on one of the better Legends molds from that line. At least Brawl was repainted later as Tankor, and Ironhide got the red repaint in ROTF. Bonecrusher was only used once for that one toy.

A Voyager Bonecrusher could have been awesome. Human Alliance would have been cool too, but he'd be too big to scale with the rest of them.

He was comparing the feasibility of that to the prowl death.

Yes, wheeljack's ears light up everytime he speaks and that was a worth while 3p add on, but for a company to actually make eyes popping out of a dinobot that was literally a split second frame?

Why not 4 seconds of a childhood character's death?
